  1. When are pods most active and when do your powerheads/wave boxes run full force? Theres your answer.

I nuked my pod population when running UV 24/7. Since they are more active at night, they can roam around and not get nuked by the UV lamp if they have the chance of getting pushed through it.

Also, when your PH/WB are running full force, the "free floating" larva count will be much higher and you would want the lamp on to do the most damage.

  2. Ive had ich 3 times in three different systems. I tried garlic and all that other stuff....no success. I installed a UV on each one, about a week later fish showed no signs of ich and stayed that way till I sold them (months later). They were yellow and blue hippo tangs from Petco (ich factory in most cases).

If you run UV, I'd put it on a timer. Run during daylight and off at night unless you have inverted sump light schedule. Also, slow turn over rate on a UV is best. Gives more contact with lamp to kill free floating parasites.

  3. I wont use LED again. I have a single 20k halide and love it. Yeah bulb replacement is a pain, but I like this simple light setup and colors are spot on. Not all un-natural like some of the LED blinged out stuff. Dont get me wrong, it looks cool, but completely fake sometimes.

  4. If it gets trapped behind the rock again, use a turkey baster with some clear tubing on the end to "blow" it out from behind the rock. Thats if it doesnt get attached. Beware, this stuff will take over a tank quick. Worse than GSP.

  5. I would not stir the sand bed. It will relase more nutrients into the water column. This will feed the cyano even more. Chemiclean will get rid of it. Just turn your skimmer off when using chemiclean or you will have a major mess on your hands.

  6. "Survival of the fittest"

If you use a reverse turf scrubber and its flourishing, there wont be enough nitrates/PO4 for anything else to grow. Once a balance can be struck, you should see slower growth on the scrubber. Very handy for people who feed too much. Its also a great place for pods to floursh and replenish them in the DT if you have a dragonet or similar lifestock that depends on live pods for food.

I personally let the GHA grow on the back wall of my lil 16g tank. It only grows there and eventually just dies out but while its growing the pod number explode. I dont feed as theres no fish in there so the only P04 I get in there is from external contamination from my hands, or maybe salt/water thats added. Seems the GHA usually comes back shortly after a waterchange so there must be a PO4 source somewhere in that chain. Doesnt bother me though as its all part of the balance to me.

  7. Txnano knows his stuff. He sells these thing every day to all sizes/types of people. I have the simmons BR Noel. It took a week to get used to. Now I sleep like a rock and wake up with no aches. On my old spring mattress, I would sometimes think I'd need a tow truck to pull me out of bed in the mornings...back aches bad...
