  1. Actually, the POS system forces you to claim all of your credit card tips minus the amount of money you had to tip out to the restaurant.

Yes folks, waitstaff pay to have their jobs. 3% of my sales at my job. (that means when you tip 15%, I take home 12%...) Each month I tip out about 300 bucks to the restaurant. Much like strippers. *shakes head in shame*

True, the POS does make you claim all of your CC tips but, it also makes you claim a minimum of 8% of your cash sales as tips as well. This covers us employers with the IRS proving we make the employees comply with the minimum standards. However, most waitstaff, at my place at least, make much more than the chefs that spent $50k to go to school to learn to cook in the first place!

Also, your tip outs don't go to "the restaurant" they go to other employees such as bus boys, host and the like. I have my employees tip out 1% to each the dishwasher and the host, 2% total. Be glad you are not the employer, we have to pay 1/2 or all of your Medicare and SS taxes! I pay out over $2500 a month, right off the top of my profits for all of my employee's taxes. Plus Quarterly Fed. Income Tax, Unemployment Tax and Inventory Tax...all of these come right off of the top of my gross income. Now the **** democrats put a 1% "Gross Profit Tax" on anything over $300k gross a year! So, you shell out another $3k a year to the Feds for....um.....fun, I guess?

This is no longer the land of "Free Enterprise" where the market dictates who makes it and who doesn't. It's now "Government Managed" and that's about as close to Socialism as you can get!

You don't know what being robbed is until you own a business!

Sorry....I'm off of my soapbox now.

  2. "Low-balling" with most companies can't happen as POS Systems automatically calculate cash and cash tips. A minimum amount is put in based on projected tips say at 15% of the cost of food. No company worth it's salt is going to put up with an employee stealing and certainly won't risk fines by the Feds for fixing the books.

Besides, "Integrity"....it all you really have in life.

  3. Thanks for the input. "Judefish", glad you like the restaurant, not sure whom you may be by your call sign alone but, I'd love to meet you and your husband next time you are in at Nonna's.

I'm really not moving too fast, just gathering information and possible tankmates. The tank has been up with no loss of life since July 2. I have not done a water change to date. Lots of algae and stuff but it's not out of control.

I was mainly looking for tankmates that would be compatible with my current lineup but I'm sure I'm almost maxed out as everyone looks happy at this point and has a lot of room to roam.

Here is what I currently have:

    One - 4.5" Sailfin Tang

One - 3" Swallowtail Angel (one of only two that are listed as "Reef Safe")

    One - 2" Ocellaris Clown

    One - 2" Scooter Blenny

    One - 2" Green Mandarin

    Two - 2.5" Blue Line Cleaner Wrasse's

    One - 3" Yellowhead Jawfish

    One - 2" Tailspot Blenny

  4. Andrew,

OK, Here is what I'd do although I'm not sure what a collection cup may cost?

I have a Prism Deluxe. Where the collection cup fits the skimmer itself, at the "O-ring", it is 2". Get a piece of 2"ID PVC.

Cut it to 2-3" in length. Use PVC glue and connect it to a 4-6" diameter piece of piping and a cap to just fit (no glue) or any container with a lid. Hell, even a tupperware container will work. The suction tube can be regulated with a simple, small, binder clip. Clip it on to start it and allow some air flow to keep it running. Ghe great thing about this is you can make the collection cup as big as you like. The Prism's are soooooo small.

    :D

  5. John,

Thanks for the input. Some of the critters were sold to me by a LFS without much knowledge of the interaction with other aquatic creatures...I admittedly know little as well so, it was blind leading the blind.

For instance, I now have what I thought was a really cool creature, "Philippine Sea Apple". Not knowing the toxicity or car needed to maintain them. Also a pair of "Blue Line Wrasses", which evidently need a lot of fish to clean to get the nutrition that they need.

That being said, 2/3 of my live rock was well established for the past 3 years so hopefully the Mandarin will have plenty to eat. The "Black Worms" were suggested foods for the Mandarin per Drs. Foster & Smith.

  6. Live Brine Shrimp and Live "Black Worms" are recommended for the Green Mandarin that I have. Where do you get either of these? cool.gif

I have lots of Brine Shimp eggs but have been really unsuccessful in getting them to hatch?

Black Worms???? Never heard of them? Can't find them on Drs. Foster & Smith either?

I'm all for raising Brine Shrimp if I can get them to hatch?

Suggestions that may be more suitable for feeding? :D

Also, In need of PhytoPlankton...has anyone propagated this successfully?

  7. Just looking for a basic laptop for my business. Really cheap....something that is just taking up space at your house.

Doesn't need internet or anything special. I just want to be able to put MS Office on it. I have one now (Dell Latitude LX, circa 1995) that is refurbished but only has a 10" screen. I'd like something a bit larger.

    Dave

  8. This is neither "family" nor is it "business". It IS opportunity. One man's trash is another's treasure. If a close friend, I'd suggest an "offer" to be polite. If declined, happily take the tank.

"Freedom is not merely the opportunity to do as one pleases; neither is it merely the opportunity to choose between set alternatives. Freedom is, first of all, the chance to formulate the available choices, to argue over them -- and then, the opportunity to choose."

    :D Dave "renman"

  9. My QT is a 15 gallon "Eclipse I". It's easy to use, has a florescent light (put a 20k bulb in it) and built in Bio-Wheel, Activated Carbon and Filter material...Works fine, lasts a long time.....

I even have a stand "for sale" that it would fit on! (Shameless Plug...)
