  1. Tim,

Thanks for the response! Doesn’t take long for a tank to crash when you are gone most of the time. Now I’m home again, I plan on going back to water changes every 10 days (10%). I cleared the rubble out of the sump and started with a clean slate. Still have all sand and about 200 lb rock in the 225 g. The tank itself was set up in 2008 (14 years now).

New filter socks with larger porous media intercepting, first. These are now cleaned out daily. All pumps cleaned throughly. Salinity levels checked at 1.023. Other parameters to be checked and posted tomorrow as I wanted time for this water/ filtration change to settle a bit.

You mentioned “hard coral” to be added? Any particular that you would recommend?

Also, old lights are gone and Kessil A160WE’s are now installed.  Still running original “Ehim 1262 (2/ea)” from sump. Internal circulation is Tunze 6105 Turbelle and a ReefWave 45 Gyre. New GFO and Carbon as of 7 May (yesterday).

  2. My reef tank has been devastated by Cyano. I have been traveling and husbandry has been on the back burner.
I have been using a lot of live rock in my 55 gallon sump in addition to a couple hundred pounds that are in my 225 gallon.

I’m wondering if the detritus is just building up in my refugium? Does anyone else run a ton of live rock in there sump? I’m thinking maybe if I get rid of all of this but it would be just easier to clean without an area for the detritus to build up?  Thoughts? Pics?

  5. Faron,

I have a 225 gallon that I'm putting them on. Now, a lot of people poo-poo at what is correct and Lux and Par and all that Guff. But, I now have 3 Marineland "Reef Capable" 18"-24" LED units over my 225 gallon. And in a year, not an issue. I have Digi, Plate Coral, blah, blah, blah...I would think that for a 65 gallon, even these Marineland lights would do just fine. My tank is 31" deep I'm presuming your's in on the order of 18" to the top of the sand bed?

Feel free to contact me: 512/818-2221

    Dave

  6. I've just ordered my new LED lighting system to replace my current ones.

    It's a Maxspect 27 Inch Razor R420R 16,000K LED Light Fixture.

If anyone cares to come see it, I'll have it on Wednesday and I'll plan a day for everyone to come see what it's all about. Supposedly, it's one of the best on the market...we'll see!

  7. Just wated to share a link to my daugher's Reverbnation Press Kit Site. She is a professional drummer with over 350 gigs under her belt. She's recorded by invitation in Nashville in January and now is co-writing with numerous other artists and doing quite a bit of paid session work.

She is an Artist Endorser for Soultone Cymbals, Lento Percussion, Pearl Drums, Xcel Drumstics and Remo Drum Heads.

Two of her co-written original songs; "Expedition" and "This Feeling" can be seen on her site as well as about 80 other videos. Pardon the camera work...it's not my forte'. You can see her tour dates, leave a comment, ask a question, or become a FAN.

Please visit Gina Marie Osmar at: http://www.reverbnat.../ginamarieosmar

She is also on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (drummergirlgina) and other sites if you care to follow her.

    Best Regards!post-155-0-81604900-1345244843_thumb.jpg

  8. My chiller died the other day..."Current", 1/3 hp. I have a 225 gallon tank. I'm looking for a new chiller that is a bit more effecient than this model. Maybe I don't need one as big if it's a better unit?..... Any suggestions/prices? Need it soon as my tank is 85-86 degrees!

  9. Just a plug to share my daughter's musical talents. This is her professional press kit site. You can read all about her but, at the bottom are her videos. The first is called "Expedition" and was a collaborative effort by her and another musician in Brisbane, Australia. Immediately following that video is another called "This Feeling" that was also done by Gina with this same guy in Australia. Enjoy! http://www.reverbnation.com/ginamarieosmar

  10. My daughter, Gina Marie Osmar is in a female drum competition that is being judged by the likes of "Hannah Ford" and "Sheila E."! She needs some votes!

We recorded her at Guitar Center doing the drums for "Circles" by Switchfoot.

So, if you wouldn't mind casting your vote for Gina, click on "VOTE for this VIDEO!" just below Gina's video pic. You can also leave comments at the bottom of the page but the comments do not count as a vote. The website is hitlikeagirl2012.com

    Go to: http://www.hitlikeag...a-g-marie-osmar

She is also looking to start a band with like minded/talented middle-school aged kids...

    Best Regards,

    Dave Osmar

  11. Update: Gina was just signed to an independent label out of Nashville, "Who Is It?" Records. She is headed to the studio on 11-12 Jan. to record a couple of drum tracks for some other artists. She now has a Tour Manager as well. Things are rockin' for this kid!

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

  12. This is the weirdest Starfish? It came (3 of them) as hitchhikers on my Orange Tree Gorgonian today. All of it's arms are "split" about 1/4 of the way down. Camera shot is not too good but it has beautiful orange markings!

One of them came off as I was placing the Gorgonian so I snapped a pic on a small Finger Leather. The other pic shows how they are wrapped around the Gorgonian.
