  1. they have a walk up counter. it looks like a wholesaler only, but they also sell to the public. if you buy enough, they will cut it for you. you can also get scrap from them too. you can also get vinyl there. so if you have a vinyl plotter and want to cut out car graphics, you can get good deals there for some vinyl.

I checked it out yesterday, look nice wholesales, but not really helpful with information but I know what I need. Regal is good price and sounds like reasonable prices for 48X48 3/8 arcylic and the cost is 123 dollars, not bad but Glass prices cost me 220 dollars for that sheet what I requested for quote.

I decided go for Acrylic sheet for my small office tank instead of Glass. I will ask that person if can help me to cut the sheet, I already wrote the plan and cut plan, I will lose about 4 x 48 inches left.

  2. GKarshens,

I check the yellow page and its funny that Binswanger has two locals, one is near my place at South Lamar and Burnet. so I will check it out tomorrow at South Lamar and if not then stop by at Burnet.

Other option about Acrylic, should be ok if go with 1/4 or 3/8? for this size?

  3. Alamo glass on Lamar at Airport. They are nice and cheap. What double post? LOL You can use my table saw if you want

recently call Alamo and give me some rude attitude, so I will stop by this friday and check for quote. She say not avialable for starphire glass. only standard glass.

I haven't check the arcylic sheet yet. I wll check it out on Regal plastic too.

You removed the second post, you're a mods

opinion about acrylic, what is thich is better? 1/4? or 3/8? I never had experience with acrylic sheet. I has glass tank.

Acrylic is stronger than glass if go with 1/4 for acrylic?

  4. You could go Acrylic, but I really want to know the answer to this question.

    double post.. tsk tsk tsk...

Arcylic for small tank and the price is higher.. also I don't have table saw, I live in dulex doesn't have garage. that is sad

Glass should be good.. I haven't find the local glas ship, mostly auto shop. I figure it out.. I have gone to yellow page to find,

  5. Howdy G'day

I feel great to be back on line  since few weeks. busy with step-son "whole month" Now I have to catch up with my baby SW. The Tank looks need big job to clean and get battle with Cyano and Hair Aglae.

Right now I ask something about Glass. I am thinking to have a small narrow height size for my bedroom next to my desk. I think about the size is 34 L X 18 W X 12 H, That size can fit the table. There will be inside overflow box.

I think about rimless, the thick of glass should be approix about 3/8 will be strong enough for without brace? the light will be T-5 from previous tank, I getting upgrade to IC SLR and IC 660 ballast.

Which the store is recommend to buy the glass sheet, I would like to have Starphire but not for our bedroom, standard glass is good.

I will set up blog for my tank..

  6. done with drill, look so good.. I will post the picture this afternoon, I need to hook it up and renew the plumbing system, I am glad to caught the problem. when I disassembly and its come with lose, lucky that not flooding the house....

Yesterday I went to lowes to buy Irwin spade drill, better bit than other what I have.. Irwin is the best drill bit and saw blade..... Irwin will do the job..

  9. PM me if you need a good lender. My friend works for TAR(Texas Realtors ***.). We don't own either, but have a big tank and I cut two holes in the wall to the garage. I just view deposits as a nonrefundable hole in the wall, put in a back door, ripped up the carpet, installed new ceiling hung lights, and have 3 big dogs fee. LOL

OUCH! I understand how it feel... That is why... We have three cats.. One cat love to scratch the sheetrock and licking on the paint.. One other cat is fussy with litter.. must have two litters.. what is picky cat... other cat, he think that he is alpha cat, he love to run around the livingroom... too much stimulation around here... 850 sq feet. too small for 75 gallon and three cats and one kid.. I love to doing something DIY for tank but no storage for tools....

I am from Pennsylvania, rasied in country not city boy..... want to live in large yard.. think of manfacturing house so I can build a house and throw manfacturing out.

I will let you know if lender is not want work with us, then I know where to tap you. Thanks.,.

  10. Darn it. All these year I thought a paddle bit was a forstner bit. Thank you for the correction. Boy do I feel silly. Please let us know how it goes.

That's alright.. don't be silly.. all the aquarists are reef freaks and can't remember what is tools of something that is not belong to reef.

Haven't start yet, I have to watch step-son and he begging me to take him to swim in backyard with inflatble pool. He take all of my engery Also I am looking for house too, I am getting tired of rental property. want big tank and enjoy than being hide and not notify to landlord that I have 75 gallons tank. Otherwise is look for lender that who can work with me. I have several problem with lenders, they doesn't give me any respect for who I am.

I have been drilling acrylic for some time now and I have always used the flat spade style bits. The secret to success is to use a drill press if possible. Also if you drill either with a press or with a hand

held drill go slow and pause often, letting everything cool a bit. Finally when you get near the end allow the plastic to warm up with the friction of the bit so you will not tear or split the hole when you

come through the other side. I hope this helps

    James

I will experiment with the drill bits, I have three bits and which is better..

  12. I remembered what I used to drill acrylic. It was a paddle bit (forsner bit). Worked real well. I however was not drilling next to another hole. John from Kingfish also uses paddle bits. If it does crack you should be able to fix it with that weld-on 16.

paddle bit (forsner bit), that is use for woodworking? that bit with flat and two sharp edge that you mention?

there are two different between paddle bit and forstner bit, forstner bit with corase saw, Paddle bit is flat straight.

I think paddle is better than forstner

  13. Good Morning reef addicts :D .

I have decide to drill a hole of Overflow box that to feeding to refuge, there will be two pipes goes to sump, one 1" goes to drain and one 3/4" goes to refuge, both have true ball value to close while I can exchange with fresh batch into sump intead of remove U tube.

How you can drill 1" diameter on the 3/8" acrylic? I have 1" hole drill bit. I am not sure that drill bit can cause split or break the acrylic? Other way to drill?

    any input?

    Thanks

  14. I just found the same yellowing in our 110. It is on the over flow. I am definately not taking the tank down. I will let you know how it goes. I am %100 sure I used the right silicon. It has not turned yellow in the sump. I can't explain that. The only difference is there is no direct light on the sump.

sorry not being respond back, we have celebrate for our anniversary, today is offical one year marriage. :D LOL...

Interesting, what kinds of silicone do you use, I use GE silicione 1 100 percent rubber sealant, RIght now I am not sure.. I think of chemical reaction by buffer, calicum? I poured chemcial buffer, calicum in the drain area, that where yellow stain on the siclicone than Refuge area.

I will order aquarium sealant in cases.

I still keep eyes on paired Ocellaris.

  15. That is USS Lexington, Aircraft carrier. Really nice and very fascinated about the history of USS Lex. We took 5 hours of tourist. long and lots of history. Unfortunately that we haven't see TSA, Shame on me. :D Time is not permit. someday we will go CC again and tour TSA.

  16. Yellow, I don't know. Some of your silicon grows algae(green, brown, red, purple). I am watching this thread to see if anyone has an answer.

If you are super worried about it, you could take the sump off line and redo it. I know that is a huge pain. I have a Rubbermaid container you could use until the silicon tried. It wouldn't be super pretty, but it does hold water.

I did check the silicone, there are no grow aglae on silicone, and wait and see any one will answer the question. I know that will be pain in butt that stand is 18 width substrate from wood stud to 14 inches. I can't find any rubbermaid that size narrow to 14 or under.

  17. Today this morning, routine maintanice the tank, and spot there are seveal yellow color stain on the siclione in the sump (baffles). That is sign of mildew from additive of antimildew?

I used the tube of 100 percent silicone rubber sealant. GE Silicone I (Clear) Window and Door. THere are no mildew additivie.

I use this tube at previous 10 gal sump then 20 gal sump and right now 30 gal sump, I noticed that first and second sump has no yellow stain. 30 gal sump as been since last month ago.
