  1. I use garlic. I have used a few types. I started off buying Garlic Extreme (not sure who makes it). Then I found Kyolic at the health food store. It is the same thing but twice as big for half the price. I just made a bunch of home made food the other day and didn't have any Kyolic left. So I minced up some fresh garlic and put it in the blender with the rest of the food. I use it since I know it is good for a humans immune system. I figure the fish like it and it may help them too.

Where can be found in health food store? could be GNC or Vitamin store? I never heard this kyolic. I wonder if can use soak with food? I tends two or three drops on the cube of mysis shrimp or krill or brine for 30 minutes then feed to fishes.

  2. I have two question for fellow reefer..

    1) Which supplement for Magnesium, EVC or Salifret, which is more reliable and preferred? I has EVC B-ionic two part soultions (calicum and alk)

    2) Garlic? Which is your preferred Kent Extreme or Seachem garlic guard?

What do you use supplement for your tank? or leave it natural?

  3. I love the melanurus wrasse (Halichoeres melanurus), although they can be a little nippy around shrimp and can eliminate a colony of pods in hours they're a great little fish and i usually try to keep them in stock. what other species of wrasse to you have?

    rufus

Currently I have sixline wrasse, checkerboard wrasse. They loves to eat arctic pods everyday..

what is rate the cost for Meanurus Wrasse?

Looks very similar to an Ornate Wrasse. I have one of those and it is my favorite fish. It is possible it could go after snails or hermits, but I think if you keep it well fed it should be ok.

Really, I think I have 5 red legs crabs, and about 15 ceriths snails and five astrea snails. I am sure I will feed them more to prevent Melanurus can nip or eat snails.

  4. Howdy Reefers,

Anyone had experience with Melanurus Wrasse in your tank?

I think about the next fish shop for my tank. I attracted this fish and very colorful fish. I started falling in love with wrasse, because of their characteristic is very odd than other.

I wonder that fish is unavailable to find? I will try ask LFS to get one for me.

If I get one and there will be three wrasses in my tank and maybe few month later the next is Scott's fairy wrasse.

  5. Karen, I happend browser the RC forum and I saw username with avator, the pictue of red tang.. You says body is red and yellow fin?, Must be RARE fish. I can't find one on google, not look alike lavender tang, more likely little purple..

  6. They should probably calm down. I try to feed right after I introduce a new fish to distract all the existing fish for awhile and let the new guy slip in unnoticed.

good idea, when the light start in an hour and another light will on in half hour after the first light fired I will start to drip some Artic Pods to give them to distract for extra hours.

I did peek the tank and see Sixline swimming around but not checkerboard, checker is sleeping right now.

Hope that checker and sixline doing okay and trace! :D

  7. Today I bought sixline wrasse and I put in tank about 9 pm and Checkerboard aggressive and attack sixline, I thought checkerboard is peaceful temperant and not aggressive. Sixline is hiding the Rock, Checkerboard searching sixline. I hope so they will alright by next day?

Its first time introduce each other and it is normal to attack sixline because of terrority? I had checkerboard for two weeks.

  8. Hi Carlos,

WHich the list of Wrasses should be nice to add my tank? I see several Wrasses on list, its Reef safe and have exist one wrasse, blenny, PJ cardinal and paired Ocellaris in tank.

which one will be perfect choose for this?

  9. I am glad that sunny found a new owner and home.. sure that sunny has big room to swim around and space for her terrority.

I can hold two red ear slider for you when you move a house and pond, then we can give you two turtles.

Let us know when you can take turtles.

    Ron

Sunny is his new home. Once he decides he doesn't want to hide any more, I'll send you both a new photo.

Ron, we are moving onto our land mid-end January. I have three Red Eared Slider turtles that someone is taking care of for me until we move...just didn't have time for the constant cleaning once I got the reef set up. I'll temporarily have what I think may be a 1000 gallon round trough-like thing for them and would be happy to add your two to the crew if you decide you don't want them any longer. Long term we'll be building an actual pond for them in our new front yard.

Thank you both for the new fish. He has found his last set of owners, but will have to move one more time when we move. At least he'll have the same aquarium :()

    Dena

  10. I agrees with you about wrasse, I already fascinated with checkerboard wrasse, how they movement and how move their body when sacvaenger the pods and other. I already lost twice to sixline because I don't know that sixline jump out the tank. Until now I have eggcrate on top of tank. Now I had more comfortable that there will not be another victim of carpet surfer.

I think about get several wrasses addition to my tank. Check RCA for holiday to see if they have in stock? if not, then try give a order it from LA.

  11. My wife and I are sadly miss Yellow Tang we give tang away to Dena, the new owner. Tang is great algae eater and partner with Blenny. We have to let go away because Tang get bigger and aggressive. Not suitable for 4 feet length.

Now we watched the tv and not realized that there is no big yellow around the tank. now tank looks so plain. and quiet..

We discussed about get other few list fishes to color it up.

What do you think or suggest about the livestock? for 75 gallon tank and its reef tank.

I have caheckerboard wrasse, two paired ocellaris, a Blenny and a PJ cardinal in our tank.

    sixline?

    flame angel?

    Copperband butterfly?

    other wrasse?

    chromis?

    cardinal?

    what else do you recommend..

  12. Please read my little article carefully. Yes, siphon out all you can every single day for about two weeks before you treat the tank. All of this is covered in that write up.

You can just siphon them into a bucket, but I was doing it to the sump so I wouldn't have to keep replacing saltwater with new saltwater.

OK I will read the article later this night and maybe best time to perform next week when my wife and step-son go out to Dallas for christmas week, while I am alone at home to babysit pets and place. Give me time to work on tank and clean the relfectors, etc.....

  13. Red Planaria are just an eyesore. And honestly, it would be best if you could erradicate these because when you trade corals with others, you shouldn't help spread this 'plague' to other tanks. This article may help:

    http://www.melevsreef.com/flatworms.html

Should I need to erradicate the flatworm by vaccum with micron bags to pail or to sump then droplet of Flatworn eXit to ensure all flatworm nonexit?

  14. My wife just called me in work. Yellow Tang needs to BOOT out of tank, Yellow get aggressive right now, Ocellaris got slice in the body and wound really bad, like open cut when you cut with knife, also attack other fish, wrasse, checkerboard has missing tail. Cardinal almost jump out the tank because tang chase cardinal.

I can't go to home right now to check the wounds. I have to stay work because many students need me to help with their math for final exam.

I need to contact with Karen first, because she give me for free so, if she want take it back or not, can trade something for Tang, I think 4 or 5 inches length, good healthy fish.

I have no tolerance for wound other fishes.

I will not answer the email until tonight I think I will be home at 8 pm.

  15. sounds like some sort of amphipod or copepod. small crustaceans. some can be redish. if you see one again grab a magnifing glass. it will look like an alien version of a pillbug.

I tried my best to take a picture, my digital seem can't take close shot, its blurried... I took shot that a little distance away.

    here is

  16. This morning, I checked on new coming fishes since friday, I happened saw there something red/orange spot on the rock and the glass. look like they moving something. Describle is the shape of oval and red/orange.

I did try look it up on website, unwanted pest or critter or coralline.. I can't find something to fit my describe.

    could be critter?

I will try to post the picture..

  17. Howdy,

I have a question for you reefers, What do you dosing with b-ioncs for reef, daily dose? or once a week? I have 4 SPS and 3 corals. I seem that the alk decrease in few days. I have 75 gallon with 30 gal sump, net of water should be 70 gallons. I dosed with 20 ml once a week, that is not working? how frequnetly do you dosing the b-ioncs?

  18. I was arrived home from ACC. I saw only one ocellaris, impossible missing one ocellaris, I know that I have paired ocellaris and I searched all the tank and find that ocellaris was lying on the carpet behind the tank, I happened to pick him and he starts jump when I pick. He is dehydrated. I acted quickly and throw in the tank. he grasped the breathes and I gentle him, he in my hand to ressure him. He is starting to swim with his mate.

I guess he will died soon or next day cause damage from dehydrate or shocked from trumatic?? anyone can give a good or bad news so I can prepare to accept the news next day before I will find him die early morning. Paired Ocellaris is my best gift when I got them last year as first setup as saltwater.

  19. I have problem with bubble aglae on the pink sps frag. got frag from arc member, He say get emabld crab, mine has not touch it for a while. I wonder if the bubble algae can cause SPS to release toxic? There a lots of tiny bubble aglae bulds it up surround the SPS. I am little furious with this.

wonder if I can pull sps out of tank and remove the bubbles then rinise the new batch of saltwater then return to tank, already spread bubble aglae into tank since I got frag from other member
