Have you considered a mantis shrimp hitch hiker. When a tank starts taking massive damage out of no where it can be because the mantis is now large enough to take on the prey. It's really not an uncommon hitch hiker

Whats your tank size and what else is in it? any tangs? anything else eating it? I wouldn't reccomend a sea hare. Try a large mexican turbo.

I'll give it a fuge run too. I'll be interested in how it reacts in different tanks. Right now i'm growing sea lettuce it looks like green glass in the tank wich is cool and the fish love it and it grows fast in one tank and slow in the main.

I have a 240 also its 8'. It was reccomended on a calculation site to get Seio 2600's and a controller. If you already have a wavemaker you may only need one or two not so powerful. They are cheap to 70ish

As for your goby its always possible to make it down to the sump if you have no screens on the returns like me. Making it back up through an impeller would make him sushi. More than likely he was hiding in the rock work the whole time. If you take your pump apart you'll see what I mean.

I had a brackish puffer that ate a tube anemone tenticle that was floating in the tank and wigged out. His lips were peeled back over his beak. It was funny and not at the same time. How long has he been like that?
