  1. Totally normal. Colors for SPS are usually different from tank to tank due to different lighting. I am running a little experiment on mine. When I get something new, I frag a little piece and mount one high and one low. This way I can see which brings out the color I like best. If i am looking at it right, it looks higher in the first pic. Am I looking at it wrong?
  2. I see people selling this as well as some really cool decorative macros on nano reef all the time. Here is a link to a thread with some pretty unique ones. He has them in and out of stock. If he doesn't have what you want available, I'm sure he can let you know when he does. Here is a link: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=263009
  3. Well, I used it. After seeing a bucket of this carbon is $50, I decided to give it a shot. I did a small water change last night and added 2 cups in a nylon filter bag. It is TLF GAC, by the way. So far all my fish, corals and anemone are good to go. Hopefully they stay that way!!!
  4. I am looking to buy some new 4" filter socks. I just bought 4 new ones from BRS but wasn't paying attention and bought the mesh ones. Looking to buy around 4 of them.
  5. Some corals I could get a descent picture of:
  6. Yes it is. She took right to the anemone.
  7. My tank has around 80-90 pounds of live rock. For livestock, I am really slow to add. I dont like to disrupt the system so I tend to add slower than most people. Right now for fish I have a yellow fin flasher wrasse, extreme misbar ocellaris clown, Platinum clown, Yellow belly Hippo tang, and a soon to be gone coral beauty angel. The Yellow belly hippo is still young so she hasnt developed the yellow belly yet but in person her belly is kinda transparent with a yellow tint so I hope she starts to change soon. The clowns havent paired yet but im hoping they do so eventually. The Platinum lives in a Green BTA with purple tips and the misbar just roams around. The coral beauty will be gone soon because he has been picking at my sps and my acans. I dont really remember what my cleanup crew is because some of it I moved from a 20 gallon tank I had before this. I also bought a quick crew from reef cleaners for a 30 gallon tank. I have numerous corals, mostly frags. Im not going to list them all now but I may get to them eventually. I just got back into SPS and they are all doing great. A few pics of fish:
  8. This isnt really a new build since it has been set up for about 6 months but I wanted to start this thread to kinda blog and write about what is going on in my tank. It is a 60Lx18Wx24H Oceanic Reef Ready tank with dual corner overflows. It has a custom canopy that I built myself. The sump is a PM sump where i use 2 filter socks and have carbon and a bit of chaeto lit up by a little PC light from Lowes on a alternate light cycle. I have 7, 54 watt T5 bulbs running on Icecap ballasts and reflectors. My bulb selection is 4 blue plus, 2 aquablue special and 1 purple plus. The 4 blue plus run from 12:30-10:30 and the other 3 run from 1:30-9:30. My return pump is a Mag 9 and I have a Tunze Turbelle Stream 6105 dialed down to about 50% for flow in the main display. I have a Reefkeeper 2 for control and a Tunze auto top off. Here are some pics of the setup and I will list livestock and post more pics shortly. Beginning: Now:
  9. Yea, thanks for the idea but I would rather buy new than bake it. My wife already thinks I'm crazy enough for some of the things I do for my tank.
  10. I got a few buckets of carbon with a package deal a while back. There is no date on them but everything the deal was older so it wouldn't surprise me if they were 2-5 years old. They were tightly closed but some had been used so they were not sealed. I was wondering if carbon expires or goes bad? I would hate for it to leach something in the water but it would save me some money if it were safe to use. Any input would be appreciated.
  11. I agree they are probably beneficial in moderation. I bought some rock from a guy on here that was shutting down his tank. The population was totally out of control. They had stripped almost all of the coraline algae off the rocks. You could see spots all over where they had munched it. I bought a harlequin and it took him 3 months to clean them off of 50 pounds of rock. You could say the same thing about urchins and add that they bulldoze down rocks and stuff. I could say the same thing about some ones predator fish. It is relative to what somebody wants to do. When someone wants to go natural, it does not mean that they are simpletons. It means they choose more natural. I like to be informed. However, I hear a lot of fear mogoling. Patrick It's not fear. Just an experience I have been through with them. Like I said at the beginning of the post, I'm sure they are beneficial in moderation. Sorry to hijack the thread, good luck with the sale!!!

How much live rock comes with this? How old is the wavebox? What is the absolute least you would take for both setups if I brought cash tomorrow? I live in temple so I could come any time.
  14. It's all good Jason. I will probably just do that since I am in on the group order and need to order new RODI filters anyway.
  15. I'm not new to this. I do test and wouldn't be asking nor wasting money if I didn't need to. I only change my water every month or 2. My tank has shown great improvement since I started this regimen. My question was what people use not whether I need to or not.
  16. I will get dosing pumps eventually but for now I am looking for something to get started with and just pour in.
  17. I have had SPS before but it's been a few years. I am about to start getting some again and I was wondering what 2 part people without reactors are dosing?
  18. I had a bad a** turbell stream pump that just went out on me. I am now looking to buy something for circulation in my 100 gallon. The turbell was pretty big so I like the lower profile of the vortechs. Pm me what you have. Thank you.
  19. This should probably be in the tank builds. I know some things are hard for you aggies to understand!!! Cool tank and that is a awesome light fixture!!!
  20. Holy crap!!! A bump on a 5 year old thread. Awesome!!!
