  1. Howdy. I spent a few minutes searching the interwebs and didn't find a concise list of different frogspawn varieties. What are they, and which do you find most attractive? Cheers!
  2. I bought one that was starting to split from Mama. This was in early December. The second head finally formed its green mouth, but they are still one big mass (I don't know if they actually split into two individuals or not). My placement is slight shade and low water movement at the bottom of my tank. However, I think placing it in the shade might have been too restrictive on lighting. About a week or so ago, I started leaving my blinds open that hits the side of my tank that the ricordea florida is on and it has opened much larger (at least 50%). It could all be a crazy random happenstance. It may have been building energy to pop out the second mouth and the act of me letting natural light hit the tank actually, truly means diddley and squat. I do not target feed it. I do use Coral Frenzy every 2-3 days.
  3. Want two... one for me and one for a co-worker. Can you hook me up? PM for info or whatever as needed.
  4. Thanks! Here's a forum dedicated to it: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=555
  5. Howdy. I have several places in my aquascape that have overhangs or caves where shallow to deep shadows are cast. I would like to fill these spots in with growth. I know the red chili coral hangs upside down in caves, so that's one on my list. Can ya'll toss out a bunch of things that do fine with very little to no direct light? Thanks.
  6. After 4 days without the skimmer and 1 day with, I can say with confidence that it is the skimmer (3 months old) that is causing the micro-bubbles. I'm going to try the stand. How high is the stand?
  7. @mike - Yes. @bill - I have blue xenia mounted on the back wall that is spreading well. @non - Thanks for the reference.
  8. When I hit the breakout stages (it was moderately bad) of hair algae when my tank was setup, I did a 3-days lights out with only natural lighting lighting the tank. Lack of intense lighting plus the CuC got it under control and no problems. As a matter of course, I do a 3-day lights out every two months now. I finished one the other day and I'm always awed by the polyp extension when the cycle starts up again. I imagine this would work with cyano outbreak as well.
  9. Howdy. I have an area in my tank that is high light and high flow and am looking for some suggestion on starter corals in that area. I have a red montipora (the real common one) already that seems to be growing pretty well right now. I would be especially interested in some (pretty cheap) ones fragged from local members. I want to try a few different ones and make sure that they grow well (i.e., survive) in my tank esp. with the custom LED lighting before I spend money on more expensive stuff. Suggestions? Thanks!
  10. What is the purpose of the stand? What is it doing that prevents micro-bubbles?
  11. I'm having the same problem with my Solana. I'm assuming with good water params I can leave the skimmer off for a few days?
  12. No. It's against a wall. How do skimmers cause micro-bubbles? I see refs to that.
  13. Howdy. Over the last two (three?) weeks or so, I've been having a micro-bubble problem and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it. You see bubbles in the water column as well as clinging to rock (esp. overhands), on macro-algae, etc. I have a Solana 34g, which if you aren't familiar with it, has three chamber in the back--overflow/skimmer (#1), filtration/refugium (#2), and return pump/ATO (#3). Here's what I have in each of the chambers: #1 - overflow -> filter pad -> skimmer #2 - from top to bottom, filter pad -> drip plate -> chaeto -> live rubble -> purigen -> chemi-pure -> drip plate -> filter pad (to catch chaeto bits from flowing into return area) #3 - return pump / ATO bottles I've removed everything, disassembled the pumps as much as they can be disassembled, cleaned stuff, and put it all back with no effect. How do I go about troubleshooting this?
  14. Howdy. I have these small, black spots slowly appearing on my live rock. It is mainly on the flat side of a rock close to the lights, but I'm starting to see some a little further down. If I'm not mistaken, during the actinics I see what appears to be peach-fuzz-like on the black spots. Here's a very crude picture taken top-down with a shaky iPhone through surface agitation. Thanks!
  15. Anything that sheds its hard outer protective layer millions of years ago has to be pretty badass.
  16. In one of the upgrades the view new content page lost the link to mark all as read. This is with an iPhone. Cheers.
  17. Wish what? That you had a harem of 8?
  18. The Koralia's will also eventually break from it. Well, the 120V ones will. The 12V ones are designed to cut on and off. I've heard that the Maxi-Jet's work well with poor-man wavemakers.
