I have used Koralia #2 and #4 and loved them both! Never used Seio, but even the design I believe points to the effectiveness of a pump.

Yea, but it is over $2.00 a linear foot at HD. I can mail order for less than $90 a sq. ft. I was just checking to see if someone has some they didn't use to save money and time!!

This is a beautiful DAS 55 gallon Tank. (40LX20HX16W)

I recently restained the stand and canopy. I also gutted the DAS original filtration system as it was a nitrate producing machine. I had it drilled at Fin Addict and I have resiliconed and water tested. I did put some scratches on the glass along the wooden corners when redoing the stand. ReefOne made a black acrylic overflow for this tank but I haven't siliconed it in.

It is tank and stand only with overflow. There is no sump, pump, etc. This is a beautiful piece of furniture and was my first tank when I began keeping a reef. Silicon needs to be cleaned off the glass from the resealing.

Taking all that into account, $150. Lots of oak on this tank. Much heavier than it looks.

Make a great seahorse tank for sure!

Want to do some cool pillars in my new tank. I was wondering where I could buy some acrylic rods to make the pillars with?

For those who have made pillars, is it better to use acrylic rods or pvc pipe?

It isn't ready to go just yet, but I have a great Aqua C Urchin HOB with Maxi-jet 1200 that I will be selling for $70. It is on a tank that will be coming down within the next few weeks.

For a tank that size, check out the #4's. I have some of the Koralia's and have been very pleased. The Tunze nanostreams have been breaking (the holders) big time on me (I have had to superglue three arms).

That is the tank indeed. Euroreef is also coming out with a cool pico tank which should hit around the end of the year/first of next year.

The light appears to either be loved or hated. I like it with the rimless look. I have inquired at a local fish store as to whether they can get them in or not (referring back to the Current Solana). To see a bit more you can try searching the posts on the big central reef site and look for Melev's photos of MACNA. There is an on-line store that is selling the Solana but I don't think you can post their website, but it seems phishy to me ; )

Have you seen the new Current USA Solana rimless cube? 34 Gallon and has a cool metallic looking 150 Watt MH DE fixture. I am looking into one myself. Do a google search and you will get a couple of hits on it.

No, I wasn't at all suggesting you were being unethical. If you were, you wouldn't have told people up front. Once you have and they take the corals then that is totally their decision. I am just saying that I assure people that the controls suggested on most forums don't work for bryopsis. I think that since you stated up front what was in the tank then you were doing just fine. If someone wants to take the rsik then that is their choice. However, that freebie better be worth everything in their tank if it brings bryopsis with it.

I was just hoping to inform people before they made the choice (and I have do doubt you did as well).

Oh, well, haven't posted in months and first one gets someone riled up. Back to lurking.

Most of you haven't seen me on here in months and for a good reason. One word: Bryopsis. I can assure you if you are starting a new tank and move ANYTHING from the old one, it is only a matter of time. Bryopsis is NOT Hair Alage. It is a low nutrient algae and NOTHING eats it all. If you bought something that "ate" it, you didn't have bryopsis. I consulted with Eric Borneman, every book I could find and all kinds of experts. I tried Scribbled Rabbitfish, Sea Hairs, Lettuce Slugs, you name it. Final solution. I had to turn the lights off on both tanks for over 4 months. I could have sold or given away many corals and a clam, but I didn't feel that would be ethical. This is the WORST challenge in reefkeeping I have ever dealt with. It smothered corals, took over every piece equipment, and you name it. I would take a powerhead out of the tank, let it sit for a few weeks, put it back only to have the algae pop right back up.

If you are starting a new tank, I would say start totally anew or you will regret it. Read about Bryopsis and you will see how easily it is spread. I just bit the bullet and ended up losing hundreds (probably thousands) of dollars of corals. All because of one rock I bought from a store that had some macroalgae I wanted (after it was in my tank one week I saw the bryopsis and pulled it out). It had already begun to spread by unseen methods. I had moved a few zoos from that tank a few days after I bought the macroalgae to my other tank. Guess what?

I am serious to all reefers, you DO NOT want to add these to your tank. If you have seen my tanks prior and you saw them today you would weep. You can go to reef central and read that this or that eats it. I assure you, real bryopsis is low nutrient and not palatable to herbivores. Therefore, you can do water changes until you are blue in the face and it doesn't matter. Low phosphates or low nitrates don't do anything to help. I basically turned off the lights and did no water changes for 3 to 4 months and finally the stuff dissapeared.

Aquatek had a cool looking one (about the size of a huge pecan. It was white with yellow and blueish highlights - I believe), but that was last Friday when I saw it.

I know that I never had a problem with River City's water and they are now offering premixed Tropic Marin water at $1.50 a gallon or IO water at $1.00 a gallon.

Keep an eye on ebay for used MH kits. I picked up a Sunlight Supply dual 250 HQI ballast and (2) Reef Optix III pendants for only $300!!

Find what you would like and watch for a good deal. For new kits (in addition to above) try www.reefgeek.com and www.championlighting.com.

Best source is to go to the AKC website (www.akc.org) and find local breeders on their list. You may have to get on a waiting list, but you DON'T want to buy from Newspaper breeders. Folks who truly know the breeds are very selective in breeding and will do tests (depending on the typical maladies a breed tends to suffer from). Yes, you may pay a little more, but a great example is a lady in our church wanted a couple of labs and I recommended the same to her. Instead, she bought two from a newspaper add for $400 total. Now, for $600 or $800 she could have bought from an AKC breeder that gets inspected and does tests. Both dogs ended up with a breed ailment. After $2,000 on vet bills one died and the other is sickly. For that much, she could have bought two from a selective breeder!!

Happens time and time again. Be very careful, particulary with large breeds as they tend to have a shorter lifespan and serious hip and knee issues. My grandfather raised English Bulldogs for 30 years and showed around the country. I grew up in that environment and have heard many sad stories from folks who bought their "dream dog" only to find out something horrible later.

The breed you are looking at is a GOB of fun if you love big dogs. I am trying to talk the wife into a Neaopolitan Mastiff someday (she has to get over the drooling issues).

I love finding corals that are reality unknown are not that available (usually because they haven't been declared rare or given a cutsey name) for almost nothing. This thing opens up like a scolymia at night but has such thin tissue. It actually swells (the tissue) at night as weel.

Developing some sweet rainbow like colors as well!!

I will have to figure out if this frags like other corals that Anthony Caflo says by just running it face first into a ceramic tile saw.
