  1. Bought this Overflow but didn't quite fit my tank (ReefOne made one to save the day!) The dimensions are:

    Total Height: Just under 19.5"

Height to bottom of teeth: Right around 18.25"

    Teeth Depth: 1.25"

    Width: 8"

    Depth: Just under 4"

Looking for $30.00 or will trade for cool looking scorpionfish, Fu Manchu Lionfish, nice zoa frag, or used Aquaclear 110 powerfilter.

  2. Well, I thought I would share some photos of my favorite tank. It is a venomous only (for fishes) tank. It is a 20L with some zoa's, a flower anemone, a green Sinularia, and a few other corals. Good clean up crew and the look is a rubble filled tank and sandy bottom to try and represent where these guys stay.

    Here are the fish inhabitants:

    1.) Longspine Waspfish

    2.) Ambon Scorpionfish

    3.) Leaffish

    Some photos:

Will add some more photos later.

P.S. - Anyone recognize the Montipora and Xenia frags? Both are doing great although the Xenia was closed up for the photo. I will hopefully have some Sinularia frags at a meeting to come.

  3. Is it just me or does it seem impossible to "truly" create live rock that has never been in the ocean? I have been reading Anthony Calfo's book "Invertebrates" and I just don't see how something we make can ever really replicate what is made naturally?

Now, having said that, I'm not against the idea, just curious I guess. Of course, when you see some of the "live" rock at some LFS that looks as base as all get out for $6.00 a pound making it sounds pretty reasonable.

    Just thinking.

  4. Wow, LOTS of great comments for me to learn from and use. I was busy pulling up carpet all day yesterday in my house and didn't have time to check my posting. Thanks for all the help. I will play with the design and repost.

I took the 1.5" for the baffles from the floor from Melev's website. Would 1" be okay?

I have had many say the skimmer area and return area should be a bit larger (I was trying to maximize the fuge area), but understand the problem of evaporation and making sure a skimmer can fit.

I am going to probably go with an Aqua Pro or Coralife skimmer. A little noise isn't too bad, I have a whole room dedicated to my tanks, Tarantulas, scorpions, and centipedes. I would have my snakes in there, but my wife makes me keep them at work. Says she can't sleep with them in the house. They are venomous so I don't argue with her.

I will incorporate comments and get back to everyone. I hope to meet some of you at MACNA.

  5. During PetCo's sale I bought a 20 gallon long to use for a sump under my 55 gallon DAS tank which I gutted the built-in filter. Here is a drawing and my comments below:

    Here are my questions:

1.) Should I use acrylic or glass baffles? If I use acrylic, what width (3/4"?), and would rough sanding the sides help silicon adhere to it?

2.) Are the height of my baffles between the skimmer/drain section and the return area okay?

3.) I will feed the refugium from a T off of the return line. With 1" teeth on the refugium baffle, is that enough for reasonable draining from refugium back to return area given the height of the other baffles?

4.) Does it appear that the sizes of the three areas are sufficient? I will probably use an Aqua C Remora or Urchin for a skimmer.

    Thanks for your help.

  6. If you haven't been to River City and dealt with Carlos, you are missing out on the best shop in Austin in my opinion. Carlos and his team are always helpful and have the best prices around. I have bought a lot of corals and fish from Carlos and never lost a one.

He gives excellent trade in values and the First Friday sales are great. Be sure and check them out. Nothing but great experiences at River City.
