Macna tip: When building tanks/sumps with acrylic using weld on #4, glue joints indoors with the A/C set to 70 degrees for 4 hours to cool down the glue and materials. Then using 15/1000's piano wire to add a little space to the glue joint, add the weld on #4 with a syringe through capilary action. Then after the glue is in the joint, remove the piano wire from one end to another for a bubble free glue joint.

When using the two part weld on #40, cut the material at a 5 degree angle and inject the WO #40 into the joint using the piano wire method. Then , once dry, route off dried glue with a laminate trimming bit.

    huh????

  6. well i got the offical word yesterday, and i will be moving to austin at the end of october. I was offered a job with Austin/Travis Counry EMS as a medic. the pay is so good i would be crazy to turn it down. Still not sure where we are going to live yet but i will figure that out soon.

they way we are going to work it is this... i am going to go stay with a friend for the first couple of weeks until i find a roommate for a bit. during that time my wife and daughter are going to stay with her parents in huntsville, while i look for a house for us. now since i am not going to be in any place permenant i cant take the tank with me, but it can go with my wife and she will take care of it, then i will have to move it again from huntsville to austin before christmas.

    couple questions

    1. I know how to move the tank for 30 minutes, done that once. but how in the H##L do i move it from Ft. Worth to Huntsville. because it will be one big move. not multiple trips.

    2. once it gets setup in H-town then what damage am i going to do to it when i up and move it again in 2 months? i am going to do my best not to disturb the sandbed. am i going to crash my tank by moving it that much. if i didn't love it so much i would sell off what is in it and just get new stuff in austin, but i love my fish. is there any place that i can house them for 2 months?and how much would it cost to house something like that at an LFS?

    3. how does this sound for a plan?

tank and stand are the last things loaded, fish come out into bags, corals come out into bags, rock comes out into bucket with lid, water already made at new location, save as much old water as possible to prevent shock. Add rock and water, add corals and fish. measure measure measure?

is stuff going to be ok in the bags for the trip? and what do i do about the rock with the xenia, kenya tree, and GBTA on it, i can frag the KT and Xenia but what abotu teh GBTA?

sorry this si so long i am just worried for my little wet friends, and dont want anything to happen to them..

    any ideas would be appreciated

    THanks

    Rob

  7. Mojo, i am interested, but right now i am having trouble with the logistics of getting my tank down there. because i will be staying at a friends for a few weeks and my family wont be down until thanksgiving. since i wont have a "home" it will be hard to have a tank there until thanksgiving.

addboy, thanks for the offer for the pom pom but im going to have to pass there is so much of it up here in dallas people cant give it away.

speaking of logistics im going to post a thread in the open forums about the move.thanks for reminding me

  8. found this about the mangrove seeds its a quote from an article about why it's apparently better to get unsprouted seedlings..

"One thing is certain, though- you cannot move a mangrove between saline gradients quickly if at all! Aquarists are strongly advised to only seek un-sprouted seedlings. If there are any roots or leaves in evidence on arrival, you simply must be told what salinity the propagules were sprouted in. Failure to abide by this is likely to be fatal for the seedling, evidenced by a shriveled desiccation and demise within weeks (the propagule takes on a wrinkled appearance from the "osmotic shock"). "

  9. there is some stuff that a lot of people have been using up here for a sandbed. it is made by Pavestone it is called pulverised limestone. up here it is hit and miss as to wether Home Depot has it. i know the one near me does, and it is like $5 for a 50lb bag. only problem is that it needs washed REALLY well before placing it in your tank

i will see if i can find the thread on the DFWMAS forum it discusses the pro's and cons will edit my post once i have found it

EDIT here is the link - i have a few as it has been discussed many times on this board

  10. ok it is official. I will be moving to the austin area in the middle to end of oct. i have been offered a postion with Austin Travis County EMS as a paramedic.

Soooo much to do. i havent even started looking for a place to live. we have found a few places in pfleugerville (sp??) for some good prices.

i have heard alot about places to look and stuff but cant seem to decide on any area in particular to live. anyway if anyone has any ideas we are looking for a 3-4 bedroom (new baby and sister-in-law with us) house with 2-3 bathrooms yard (three dogs) etc. ---to RENT--- our credit sucks but that is a different story. plus i dont want to get down there and then find that i dont want to stay where we are if i find an area i like better.

anyway i am excited to be moving down ready to start this new chapter in our lives.

any and all advice will be appreciated.

    thanks
