thanks joseph but i am really looking for a frogspawn. maybe if it is still available when i get my 55 up ill take you up on that offer. but for now im pretty much just look for a single frogspawn head. 3 heads would probably be too big for the nano at the moment.
-
ok this is the final stand plan any suggestions
I should add there will be a plywood on the bottom then a layer of pond liner to prevent damage to the carpet. and hold any water in should there be an overflow
-
as the title says i want some frogspawn. its a nano tank for now so just a single head is all im looking for. im on a tight budget so cheap would be best but free would be bada$$ (hey one can hope right)
anyway im gong to place it on the other side of the tank from my hammer coral (it is a single head also)
let me know
or you can call me 936-433-4942

what kinda of wood should i build my stand out of? i think i remember reading somewhere that i should not use your basic pine from home depot. if not what kind of place should i go to?
remember i'm not in the austin area, but i will be building it in houston at a buddy's woodshop
-
Gabe i may take you up on that.
as for the acrylic: i have a heat gun that i used and it worked ok but like headless said its getting it straight that is the hard part.
-
the plan right now is to have the tank sitting flush on the front but with 6 inches in the back to have room for the overflows so the stand can sit against the wall. i dont think i have a problem with not having a lip around the front because if you look at the measurements the stand is 6'6" and the tank is only 4' so i will have 15" on either end of the tank for "stuff"
I am going to need help with plumbing though, because i know nothing about how it works. I know the basics water goes in this end and out the other. i know how i need to have it set up but when it comes to putting that plan into action i dont know the first thing.
headless the acrylic worked great. needed to cover 1/2 of the 5 gallon hex then i'm using the scrap to learn to bend it.
-
got one
thanks

i wont be at the maast meeting today but i will be on your way either to or from. i live in buda just south of austin. 936-433-4942 give me a call thanks

I need a piece of scrap acrylic. i am looking for a piece about 6x13 doesn't have to be a perfect piece. i have a 5g hex that i dont like the top of because the light socket gets wet. so i need a piece to help prevent evaporation. that's it, thanks

sorry the keyboard and i had a miscommunication, you are right i can't drill it , that is why i plan on overflows sorry my mistake
stand design and i was thinking about lap jointing all 8 corners as well
-
So i got permission to finally set up my 55g it is tempered so i can drill it, im going to have dual overflows, haven't decided on the pump yet something inexpensive yet reliable. going to have either a 20 or 30 gallon sump havent decided on the size of the fuge yet. the stand i will be building to custom fit the area between the couch and the wall (kind of as a behind the couch table) but the stand will be built so i can upgrade to a bigger tank later. it will be 33"tall 6'6" long and 18" deep. the stand will also be upgradable with additional parts to expand to 24" deep for an even bigger tank. I am not going to put a "fancy" face on it just one that will protect the back of the couch. i will post a pic tomorrow of the plans that i drew up. Looking for t5 lighting 4 bulbs at first but i would prefer 8 (half atinic)
this will be a reef tank with some fish
any thoughts?

Still have any left?
-
I was tlaking to carlos at rca today and he was saying that nano is mostly stuff from the store that didn't sell. stuff that was in tank for (some of it) up to months before they finally decided to put it into the display. the runt of the litter wins again so to speak

can i submit a diff pic i just realized how much that pic sucks the lights were out i had to turn them on for the pic
-
can you post some pics of the orange ones?
-
I was actually just looking at the zoos you have for 25. green/brown/blue right do you still have some left?? i will have to wait until my tax refund comes and have to talk to the family accountant, but im interested if you still have some left

if they are the ones i think you are talking about i believe they are rock anemone's ill see if i can find something out about them.
Hello,This anemone hitchhiked its way into my tank over 4 years ago. It has not grown much in that time and has never moved from it's rock, except to retreat when threatened. It is about the size of a quarter, maybe a little larger.
I don't see it as much of a threat since it has never split or harmed anything in my tank. I'm just curious if anyone knows what it is.
Thanks,
Eric
and the reply
Looks like a rock / flower anemone.. saw a TON of these this weekend in Port Aransas. They _can_ reproduce and become a pest, but if you're not overrun with them after four years, suh-weeet!hope that helps ill see if i can find more later

ok im looking for zoo's lots of them , i have like 5 polyps of brown and green
soon should have some xenia and kenya tree to trade but otherwise im looking for free or to buy for cheap. all colors sizes and number of polyps
also looking for a lot of the other stuff like devils hand torches, galaxia, others like frogspawn, hammers... etc
***edit*** oh and rics too they are my absolute favorite
-
Since i'm new to this club how many people have nano's (under 30g) or pico's for that matter? what do you have in them? what kind of setup is it? tell me about them
Tell ya about mine:
24g jbj nanocube pretty much stock, taken out some of the sponge in the back added some more carbon and live rock rubble back there had POS Fission skimmer but see another thread for how that worked out. since i just moved things have changed i ditched the old sand and put in the pavestone pulverised limestone probably 10lbs, 23-25 lbs LR. I was using the IO salt but my dad (not as inclined as I am) felt more comfortable buying the water so it has had Kent salt for the past three months. i still have some left but not sure whether to change to kent or revert back to IO.
As for inhabitants:
so far I have 5 green chromis i got on a trade, one false perc (my dad wanted to see some color swimming around), Lots of crabs (blue leg, and Zebra) a few snails (need many more),
softies: 2 blue green rics (one with 2 mouths) A GBTA who has been hiding for the past year is very small but seems to be hanging in there. 1 single head of hammer coral (green w/ pink tips) Kenya tree, Xenia (just cut it all out and gave it away but it will grow back), some awesome really bright yellow polyps, a few zoas (like 6 polyps) Big GSP rock. Two BIG pink mushrooms (i think one is splitting so make it 3)
I think that is it if i remember ill edit it on later. I am always looking for Zoas of any type or color. and im cheap so i'll take just about anything that is free
thats my tank what about yours????????

from talking to people from DFWMAS that went on that port A trip they found many cool fish and lots of macro. i didn't hear much about corals specifically but heard alot about peppermint shrimp. A LOT about pep's. i would like to go for some catch and release and maybe a shrimp or two. but like was said above the laws get funny depending on what you are collecting.
-
I have to second that the fission is a POS. i got one on a trade and cant stand the darn thing. i used it for three weeks the "skimmate" if that is what you want to call it was so wet that you couldn't tell it was anything but water with some bubbles. It fits in the back of the jbj in the center section ut just barely and you cant have anything in there with it. Personally save you money, but if anyone would like to try one out ill trade for it need some zoo's
-
Gabriel- does the offer for a few of those ric's still stand? if so i would like to take you up on them soon.
let me know
-
gabriel i just looked at you sig and saw your location i worked at Medic 18 right down the street before the schedule changed in jan, that fire station near braker and parkield, apparently i have driven near you MANY times.

OK im here (have been for three months) and my tank will be tomorrow in a place in buda across from cabela's so here are my few questions
1-LFS around here
been to horizon aquatics nice store
found a few others in the phone book and online but im looking for the hidden jems any ideas
2-anyone wanna help me setup the tank tomorrow when i get it in town not looking forward to it.
3-what is y'alls opinion? ditch the substrate and start over i have some but it needs a REALLY good washing and i dont think i have enough water to do that. I can vacuum the substrate but im worried about the toxin release, should i just buy new substrate? and clean the other later? i dont know. I know i am going to have to take it all out of the tank anyway.
4- anyone seen that pavestone Pulverised Limestone at HD around here? good substrate
