KTLW
I am still fairly new to salt water tanks, so I am not sure if I need to be concerned with the reddish dots or not. Come someone tell me what these reddish dots all over my glass is? How do I get rid of them? Thank you
AlexKilpatrick
Corraline algae. It is the sign of a healthy tank, but it is a nuisance. You have to scrape it off with a metal scraper (assuming you have glass, not acrylic)
barderer
hmm, when you scrap the dots off with your finger nail is it flaky like a crust? If so then its most likely corraline. If its soft or jell like it is something else.
caferacermike
I hope it is not flatworms. There are a species of flatworm that are red but seem to not really harm anything. They just get totally out of control. A six-line wrasse will eat them if that is what they are. The flatworms have a small round body with what appear to be small bunny ears growing from the direction of travel.
KTLW
We were able to scrape off some of it with my finger nail - it was dry & flakey.
AlexKilpatrick
flat worms are tiny -- about the size of a pencil lead. WHat you have looks like regular old corraline. It should be making your rocks purple also, which most people like.
GKarshens
If it was flaky it is definitely coraline. Nothing to worry about.
doktorstick
For reference, white flatworms are OK. Reds and browns typically are not.

Come someone tell me what these reddish dots all over my glass is? How do I get rid of them? Thank you Most people like coraline on their rocks and the back of their tank but clear the sides and front to make for easy viewing, but it's a sign of a healthy tank. Good job! AlexKilpatrick
For reference, white flatworms are OK. Reds and browns typically are not. I have always heard that flatworms are just annoying. They don't actually harm anything.
