Rjohn
I had another CF spotlight so I changed out the one I was using. The first one was very white with a blue undertone. This one is much more yellow. Which one will encourage more algae growth - the white or the yellow?
Robb in Austin
Apparently, 5100K is an ideal growth lamp. I picked up a 6700K one at lowes, it's a CF spiral bulb inside a reflector. Looks like a flood light. See here for more info: http://www.melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html
Gonzobob
The yellow may do better. I've read that you want something in the 2-4000 K range for optimum algae growth.
Rjohn
If the yellowish floodlight doesn't give me a good growth, I have a Current Powerbright LED I can try as I am not using it right now. It looks like this:
mFrame
SantaMonica says 2700k is the best for turf. I just picked up a 4-pack of 75w CFL 2700k at Home Depot for $12.
Gonzobob
If you can't find a K rating 2700 is "warm white"
