I had orange zoas and green zoas growing on the same set of rock. The orange ones all closed up but the greens are doing fine. My parameters are all fine except my nitrates are running about 10 or so.

Is this the culprit?

Does kinda look like a fungal infection. Might consider the Hydrogen Peroxide treatment. I have never had luck with it, but you might.

I thought that was just were the duster use to be I will take a closer look

Looks like a bristle worm, but not the typical pink/grey ones you usually see. Just a shot in the dark, but I guess anything is possible. I have also see my zoos look like this when I place them too high up and they get "sunburned" and close up all funky like in your picture.

It might be a Euclid worm ... I have one in my tank that is yellow/brown. It has never bothered my zoa's though, it normally captures snails (and I have heard they might go after Rics, but it has left mine alone).

  • 1 month later...

EDIT: Crap, I just realized the age of this thread.

Any updates? I had a similar issues with my zoas when I moved them up. One colony died because I figured I'd wait it out, the other one recently opened back up (after a few weeks)-- I attribute the survival of this colony to me moving the coral down to where it would receive less light.
