Im just starting my reef tank out, I haven't even put water in it yet, and

I thought I would join to learn whats new from the last time when I had

it set up.

The last time my tank was set up for a reef tank was about 7 years ago

and I have reciently found that things are very different from then.

I am useing a 45 gallon breeder tank with a canister and a wet-dry filter

and I will be adding a skimmer next week (before I add water to the tank).

I am planning on using a light that has both the MH and tubes with a total

wattage of about 250watts and this will give me just over 5.5 watts per gal.

Anyway, if anybody has some advice for me I would love to hear it.

Woohoo!!! Good luck on the new build. I hope to start out mine pretty soon as well.

I would ditch the wetdry, and probably the canister unless you intend to keep it really clean. Both can become nitrate traps really quickly in my experience. The canister can be great for cleaning and polishing the water, but I wouldn't use it full time unless you are really good about cleaning it regularly.
