chiu
Does anybody know of any issues with using the "waste" water coming off of the DI to use in my freshwater tanks? I figured it would be better than just taking it out to water the lawn.
lenver
I would use it, after adding Prime
victoly
Yeah. I used it straight up before and had some fish loss. I'd dechlorinate it.
Timfish
The waste water from the RO membrane will have a really high calcium and dissolved solids content. Great for african cichlids and native Texas fish but not so good for tropicals from soft water.
chiu
Thanks for the responses! I would actually be using it for a tropheus tank, so that would be perfect. Anybody have any thoughts on putting the RO/DI system before or after a home water softener system?
jestep
After the water softener. It can significantly increase the life of the membrane by using it after vs before. The home water softener replaces Ca and Mg with K and Na which are easier on the membrane and other components.
