Jimbo662
I've been trying to find something to use for netting over my tank but didn't want to use the regular screen framing since it's a rimless tank. I'm using 1/4" square acrylic rods to build the frame. I bought the rods at a Regal plastics and the small vice from Lowe's. I've got the main body of the frame put together and tested it on the tank. It fits great and seems to support itself fine. I'd originally thought I would have to double up and glue a 2nd layer of rods on to keep it from sagging. Next steps are to add small pieces that will rest on the top of the tank and hold the frame up and add the small pieces that the netting will attach to. You can see where I cut a small indention into the square that will hold the screen material in place. Going to be gluing those tonight. Support tab Tabs holding it in place You can barely see it! Little nub that the net will attach to
Bogdan
Very neat. If you worry about sagging, you can add one more tab in the middle of the rods for support. I still don't quite get how are you going to attach the net. though.
Jimbo662
The little nubs are glued along the top of the frame. The net will be stretched and hooked on the nubs. I cut the little slots so the net would grab onto it and not slide up / off.
RobR
Cool idea, that looks very nice on the rimless tank!! Now you can def get some wrasses!!! Did you get some of the clear 1/4" netting from BRS to use as the screen portion?

+SChrisEV
Cool, great job Jimbo! Now I see that you are doing. I do like this idea, I'm just not too sure I can use the same idea due to the bow my tank has. I have to noodle on that a bit, I do really like this. Jimbo662
If you go with thinner gauge it may be flexible enough to curve around.
Jimbo662
Got the netting on and found I need to add a few more of the little pegs. Once I add them I think I'll be able to smooth out most of the waves in the net. I think overall it's going to work pretty good.
Bogdan
Yep, more pegs and it should be nice and straight. If not, you can always glue the net directly to the rods (from the bottom?).
Jimbo662
After adding two pegs I was able to get the net pretty flat. I need to find a way to like iron it to get all those wrinkles / folds out. Looking head on you can't hardly see it at all. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
