bigmike015
I have had my reactor for about a month or so now. When i got it, if i turned the pump all the way up it would blast my gfo around the whole media chamber. This morning i was checking things out and turned the mj1200 up full blast and the gfo hardly turns at all. everything was working fine about a week ago. This is a pic with the valve all the way open. another question is if there is a space between the carbon and the pad is that a bad thing? Jimbo662
I've had this problem too. I think the dust / fine particles from the GFO stop it up. I've started running ro/di water through it for a few minutes with the carbon chamber empty to clear out as much of that stuff out before putting the carbon in. crendon2003
I would check all the tubing make sure no blocks. As far as the carbon you want it to stay compact no place to move. I've been running carbon an gfo for about 2 years with dual reactor.
Jimbo662
Also check the connection to the pump. Mine will come loose and spray back into the sump and lose pressure.
victoly
Its critical that you keep the sponge pre and post filters inside the canister clean. additionally, the plastic grates on top and bottom of the interior remmovable cannister can gum up with stuff, so best to hit those maybe once a month as well with a tooth brush. victoly
also, is the media itself cemented together or does it tumble when you empty it out?i do carbon monthly and GFO based on when my phosphate starts to trend upwards.
bigmike015
no it tumbles, just not like it used to. I just changed both medias about 2 weeks ago

victoly
just put the pump in a bucket and see if it pushes water. clean the impeller and pump cavity and also the pump guard.
victoly
also turn it all around to make sure its not air locked (youll see bubbles come out of small holes in the pump and then it kicks on)
Jimbo662
I just rinse the sponges each time I change out the carbon.
