lenver
So I have this light Coralife 24 Inch Aqualight With 1-65W Actinic / 1-65W 10,000K Lamp, but I think is too much for a refugium in the sump, and I know some people here get some kind of cheap light that works very well in a sump, tried and find it in the search function but didn't get any results. I just don't use that light and wanted to give it some use, but I don't want to grow some bad algae or something else in the sump.
jestep
That fixture will work but the bulbs aren't a good spectrum. You will want to get bulbs in the 3500K - 7000K range. 1 bulb might be plenty starting off as well. 130W on a refugium is a lot of light.
lenver
So what kind of light should I place in there, I know there is some kind of home depot snap on that some people here use, wanted to know which one is it. I would try and find a different use for the light.
Sascha D.
I have a 100w incandescent light that runs a 65k bulb. It puts off some pretty good heat but the macros like it so far. I need to upgrade as well so I'm tagging along in this one.
jestep
Gotcha. Just a clamp on fixture with a 6500K fluorescent bulb is a cheap way to do it. Basically this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-150-Watt-Incandescent-Clamp-Light-CE-300PDQ/100354511 With this bulb: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Feit-Electric-42-Watt-200W-Daylight-Twist-CFL-Light-Bulb-ESL40TN-D/203252142?MERCH=REC-_-NavPLPHorizontal1-1-_-NA-_-203252142-_-N If you can find a 100W 6500K bulb it would be better. Just found this quickly browsing the site.

Bpb
I used the clamp on Home Depot thing with a 6500k spiral bulb for a while when I had a fuge. A friend of mine is using a couple par30 bulbs off eBay with only red LEDs. Super cheap and his chaeto is growing insanely fast under that spectrum. subsea
Add $4 to this upgrade and get a waterproof socket to screw the bulb into. Patrick
