esacjack
I was just testing my Calcium with a salifert reagent kit, and it's taking more reagent than the chart is designed for. I though that was odd, so I bought a new one, and the same thing. It's taking 1.5ml of reagent to turn the water blue.... What does that mean? I have too much calcium? or I have zero?! victoly
Generally more reagent in a titration means more of the analyte you're testing for.
esacjack
so my calcium is off the charts.... great... solution? Water change? or leave it be and let the SPS soak it up?
victoly
It might be. It might not be. I'd double check with another kit before you do anything else. How are you dosing ?
esacjack
ATO, Kents marine liquid calcium. Thinking of making the switch to KALK though... I must have screwed up my math when it comes to evaporation...
victoly
Possibility. Are you testing right after you dose ?
Juiceman
yeah, it means you have high calcium, stop dosing and let your corals catch up.
esacjack
excellent question. I'm not 100% sure, as the ATO is very silent so its not entirely impossible
victoly
I'd be happy to duplicate a test on my Hanna.
Richard L
I'd be happy to duplicate a test on my Hanna. Me too. I'm using the Elos titration kit if you'd like to give it a try. Also, you can confirm that you're actually off the charts by diluting your sample. For example, use 50% RO water w/ 50% tank water and if your result is within range multiply it by 2. +Mitch
I use Salifert as well. When I was dosing Mg to deal with bryopsis, I was definitely off the charts. I just continued with another syringe of titrate and added the readings together. I was just a bit over the max chart reading.

I did this last night, and it confirmed my calcium was off the charts. Today was water change/maintenance day, so I performed a 25% water change. I think by mid week I'll be within range if not sooner.
