+C Lo Slice
This thing has been growing on my zoa colony for the past week and has gotten fairly big quick. There are similar looking things growing in other areas of the tank and it has only been over this past week or so. Nothing has changed in the tank other than introducing some SeaChem Phosguard in a mesh bag into the DT for about a month. I have since stopped the Phosguard because it doesn't seem to be doing much. Anyone have any idea what this thing is? Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance
+C Lo Slice
I'm aware of the severe GHA, by the way. It's actually getting better for the first time in months!
Woods
It looks like a sponge to me. they can be many different colors. I have white, clear, black, purple, yellow, orange, pink all in my 180g.
+C Lo Slice
I was thinking sponge, as well, but didn't have any experience. They are all over my tank all of a sudden.
Timfish
I vote sponge also. Most are beneficial filter feeders.
George Monnat Jr
I have periodic outbreaks of scypha/pineapple sponges, but they are usually small and grow in darkness (and are totally harmless unless they clog a pump). Typically, white sponges don't grow in light, because alga will overgrow it, clog it up and starve it. So it's really odd that it's on your zoa. DerrickH
I agree, sponge. You need some veggie eaters in there brutha! I had GHA bad a while back, I picked up a sailfin and a hippo and in a week was free of GHA.
