melev
I want to thank everyone that was kind enough to open up their home for us so that we could see their beautiful reefs. You Austinites really know your stuff, and my hat's off to you. Tank after tank was stunning. All of those waveboxes and filter socks must be worth something after all. I ended up with 875 pictures on my memory card, and I'll start going through them and post them in the next few days. The weather cooperated, fortunately. I drove home through some rain, and found my tanks are doing great. Whew! You just never know. Thank you for the frags, which are in small q-tank right now so I can test them for various pests before I'll introduce them into my reef tanks. Talking with y'all really helped me decide on things I want to do and other things I don't want to do in the future. Thank you again! I strongly encourage ARC to do tank tours a couple of times a year. Newer hobbyists benefit greatly from the knowledge of those with established systems, and learn a ton visiting in your home for a few minutes. Seeing stuff in action makes it a lot easier to comprehend some topics that seem difficult to grasp via discussion threads.

Entropy
It really bugs me that you make picture taking look so easy. I think you spent five minutes taking pictures at Andrews house and they all turned out awesome!

melev
Here are pictures from Joseph Le's tanks. His main reef was lit with 12000K and 14000K bulbs. I tried a couple of white balance settings, but decided to just take the pictures and not worry about getting it exactly right. The corals look pretty darn nice to me. Included are images from two other tanks he has running as well. Their lighting was different, so images may vary in coloration. End of tank M. confusa SPS SPS Acropora tenuis A. valida, perhaps Lobophyllia, red Pavona, perhaps Birdsnest, blue polyps M. digitata, pink Edited September 5, 2007 by melev

melev
When I tried to post my next reply, it stated I was trying to add too many pictures in the last post I was merging to. And no matter what I typed, it would appear in the previous post. And once I tried to edit the previous post, it really scrambled the contents into one continuous string. Not user-friendly at all. Last set of pictures. Yellow Polyps Yellow Tangs Alveopora Acanthastrea French Fry coral, because I can't recall the real name now. That's it for his tanks. melev
Yes I will. However, first I want to get the rest of the tanks posted. I created a few new pages for my site, but they too lack all the pictures I still have yet to edit. I hope to have time tomorrow.
cmanning
Great pics......all the pics you took w/same camera? I believe last year I missed a meeting about techniques on macro photography. Unfortunately my camera had to retired (it was an old Olympus Camedia C-700 Ultra Zoom). It did pretty good, but w/all the new ones out there....I'm having a hard time deciding. In your opinion...would you recommend the Fuji brand? -Cindy-
melev
The one I would recommend is whatever feels comfortable in your hands. I wrote this a few years ago: http://www.melevsreef.com/buying_camera.html Yes, I used the same camera my whole visit. I'll try to get more pictures added later tonight. The Fuji I have is a great camera, and I've seen other models (numbered above and below my own) that just weren't as good. I do know someone wanting to sell the exact same model in Atlanta, if you are interested. It is used, so it won't be too pricey.
