michael_t
I have out of control coralline algae. It’s a daily battle to keep my acrylic tank free and clear. Any suggestions on battling this beautiful menace? The tank is a 60 gallon with a generic 250 watt MH + 218 watts of PC Antic lighting. The MH is on from 2 to 7 and the Antics are on from 11 to 9. Noodle
The key is scraping it off before it grows into a big ole' patch. Magnet cleaners come in handy for those out of reach places. And of course, there's good ole' elbow grease for those caked on coralline patches. I do an every other day swipe with the magnet to keep the tiny spots of coralline from growing on the acrylic. GKarshens
Get more corals! You obviously have a good amount of calcium. If your calcium levels are up then the coraline grows quickly. I too have to battle with it constantly but I have glass so it is much easier.

Headless_donkey
Get some Halimeda sp. macro algae. It uses tons of calcium. River city has some right now.
michael_t
Thanks for everyones suggestions. Noodle, I have a magnet scraper. It helps, but not well enough. Someone should invent a motorized one! Headless, great suggestion. I will get out and buy some Halimeda asap! And some corals
PeeperKeeper
Get some Halimeda sp. macro algae. It uses tons of calcium. River city has some right now. I wondered what the name of that calcareous macroalgae that's going wild in my tank was. For some reason, it just recently decided to grow like crazy out of a piece of live rock I've had for many years (several pieces, actually). I guess my calcium must be doing better too. My coralline is becoming a pain on the glass too, but it doesn't seem that much thicker on the rocks than it used to be. Just more on the glass. caferacermike
There are Magfloats that have been adapted and the kit is also for sale that uses a plastic scraper on one end. So it's like a mag cleaner with a razor.
