Yup, the water is basically falling out the bottom of the tank. I was talking with someone at a lfs and he told me to fit a PVC pipe to raise the level of the drain. Problem should be solved!

Ok, thank you for the tips!

Arg! That plumbing was a bear to rig up. I don't have any valves. The return pump has 3/4" tubing, and the drain looks like a little over 1". I measured and it's a little over 5 feet of tubing the water has to go through. I have about 10 in of slack - would cutting that off help anything?
Thanks for the link. I checked it out, but I'm not sure what to do with the info on head loss - any suggestions on what kind of pump to get, and how powerful it should be? (GPH)

Can anyone tell me why my overflow box won't fill? I have a box inside the tank with a drain that comes out the bottom, and my return pump in the sump that runs water to the top. The box will only hold about 2 in before it drains faster than the pump returns the water. Is my pump just too weak? It's a Quiet One, rated at 500 GPH.

Looking for a replacement return pump for my sump ASAP! I have a 65 gallon. If you have one, please let me know the brand, condition, and price. Thanks!

Looking for CF bulbs - white, blue, or 50/50. 34" size. Or, if anyone has a good deal on a T5 lighting set up (around 36") let me know!

I have read some articles that suggested putting up a sheet of PlexiGlass or arcrylic behind the tank to protect the wall. Is this really necessary?

Has anyone had experience with an aquarium on laminate flooring? The only room big enough for my tank has the kind of laminate that snaps together. I'm not really concerned about the weight, just the possibility of water spilling. Does a certain amount of water get out of a tank no matter how careful you are? Should I put anything underneath the tank? I was thinking about getting a rug...
I was also wondering if the humidity would affect the wall behind the tank. It's painted wood paneling. Any thoughts?

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm going to see if I can find some of those products at the RCA store today.

Is this it? http://www.petguys.com/-048054313110.html It's really cheap, like 2.00. That's kind of weirding me out.... I thought saltwater stuff is supposed to be expensive!!

Ok, thank you guys for your thoughts - I'm going to pass on the batch I was considering. Ya'll are WAY better than Google!

Would it be better to leave the sand behind? How much of a water change every day would be advisable? Does the fact that I'm taking the water from that tank help much? Thanks so much for all the tips!

Evening all! I'm looking to start up my tank, and found someone needing to break theirs down. I'm thinking about taking all the water, rock, fish, and sand and putting it in my tank (which is dry right now). What do you guys think? Will everyone survive? Should I put some water in my tank and start cycling it, or just start things up when I get the new livestock? Are there any tips or tricks for moving this stuff?
A little info about my tank - I have compact florescents, a protein skimmer and eheim filter, and a sump. I attached a picture of what I'm looking at..... what do you guys think? Would I be better off starting from scratch with some bare live rock? This stuff is prettier ..........

I'm interested in the live sand.

Thanks for the tip. Excuse my ignorance, but who is the prof?

Well, I'm looking for live rock to start my tank up with and I went to see some today. I'm a little worried because in one of the tanks this person (not a member of the ARC) has, I noticed some aptaisia. He said the rock did not come out of that tank, and that aptaisia wasn't a really big deal because his shrimp eat it all the time. He showed me the tank the rock came out of, and I didn't see anything bad in there. Also, a bit of the live rock he's selling had some dark green slimy looking algae on it.
What do you guys think? Should I be worried? Also, the rock fills a 10 gallon tank right now, and he said it's a little over 100 lbs. Does this sound right? I have no idea how to tell how much this rock weighs! I need to make a decision quickly, and would really appreciate any suggestions.

I have about 50lbs of rock in a tub just waiting for a tank. I broke my main tank down so it is not doing me any good. Ill let it go for $75 or $1.50/lb.

Looking for some live rock and sand to fill a 65 gallon. Thanks for your help!

I'm new to the Austin Reef Club - a friend told me about it, and after seeing how nice and helpful everyone was I had to sign up! I had a 29 gal a few years ago, got rid of it because we moved, and I've regretted it ever since! I currently have an empty 65 gallon tank, and I'm ready to fill it. Looking forward to hearing about everyone's aquarium wisdom!
