  1. 85 gallon saltwater aquarium for sale! 550.00

I received so many compliments on this tank when I had it set up. The custom canopy makes it a beautiful focal point for any room! Great dimensions too - it's deep enough to fit plenty of live rock while leaving a lot of swimming room, and it's a "tall" tank so you don't have to crouch down to get a good view of everything.

    Comes with:

85 gal Oceanic tank, drilled with overflow (only used for 8 months) 18" deep, 36" across, 25" tall

sump with hanging fluorescent light above it

Custom built wood stand and canopy - furniture grade, cherry stain.

    Plumbing

    Heater

    Misc chemicals

No livestock or live rock included! The canopy has a T5 light retrofitted into it, but I believe a couple of the ballasts need to be replaced. I used a separate T5 HO light that sits on top.

  2. 85 gallon saltwater aquarium for sale! Plug and play! Had tons of fun with it but we’re moving and don’t have the space for it now. Pictures really don't do it justice. $750.00 OBO

    Comes with:

85 gal Oceanic tank, drilled with overflow (only 8 months old)

    2 Koralia 4 powerheads

20 gal sump with hanging fluorescent above it

Nice matching wood stand and canopy - cherry stain. Looks like furniture!

    Pump and plumbing

    Heater

    Thermometer

    Misc chemicals

Aqua C Remora Urchin Skimmer with powerhead

36” Current T5 HO lighting (nice light with multiple switches and cooling fans)

Live sand and big 3/4 full bucket of salt

No livestock or liverock included. The canopy has a nice T5 light retrofitted into it, but it works on and off so I used a T5 HO light that sits on top. So you will be getting two light fixtures. Pictures below show how it looks with and without the canopy. Bulbs have plenty of life left in both fixtures.

    Will consider parting out.

If you come to see it today or tomorrow it will be up and running. After that it goes into storage. First come, first served!

  3. So we just moved, and the aquarium is the last to go. Unfortunately, we just found out the spot it's supposed to go in has a leak behind the wall and it will have to be torn out next week. Can't wait to move the tank because the lease is up. So the tank will have to be in an awkward spot for a couple of weeks.

So my question is, am I going to have to tear down a tank full of fish full of live rock and fish twice in one month? Or, can I put something like those furniture sliders underneath once it's in the new house (before filling), and scoot it to the spot it needs to be in? What if we drained half the water? Is there an easier way to do this, or is this just wishful thinking?

If anyone has experience or thoughts on the situation please let me know because I have to get the tank tomorrow! Thanks in advance :)

    Details:

I am not trying to move a full aquarium across town, just about 4 ft across the room.

85 gal saltwater with 20 gal sump, full of live rock, fish and corals.

    Solid wood stand.

    Wood floor

  4. So I was cleaning my tank and my 1.5 inch false Percula dive bombed my hand and actually BIT me! I mean, drew blood and everything! Hubby had to fend him off with a ladle so I could finish.

Suddenly clownfish look alot less cute. I thought aquariums were supposed to be good for your blood pressure! I would have wrung that fish's neck if he had one spiteful.gif

Has anyone else had this happen?

  5. Hi all! Well, it's finally time to upgrade (woohoo!!) and my mind - and bank account - are officially boggled. I know alot of you have been around the block when it comes to setting up tanks, so I'm hoping to get some suggestions (where to buy for reasonable prices, good brands) for the following:

(so far have checked out CL, some online sites including fishtanksdirect.com, and my LFS)

110-120 gal drilled tank with overflows (would like an acrylic bowfront but willing to go with a glass/rectangle)

Wood canopy and stand (prefer unfinished so I can stain it myself)

Sump (with baffles and room for skimmer - not sure what size)

Skimmer (lost on this one. currently running an Urchin in my 85 gal. not sure if it's doing a good job, or if it is rated for a bigger tank)

Lighting (thinking about LED's but haven't seen these in action yet. May just go with t5's - either way they will need to be retrofitted into the canopy. Nothing too serious needed - only keeping softies)

    Wavemaker

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

  6. Well, I bought it used but supposedly it was only used for about 6 months by the previous owner. I do get some salt creep and alot of moisture under the canopy though - the bulbs are sometimes damp. Guess it's condensation because nothing is splashing. No fans in the unit so I had some computer fans retrofitted into the back of the canopy, but they only lasted about four months before corroding.

  7. well etannert, it's not the bulbs because they're less than a month old. The light has been on the fritz for the last month or so - turning on and off randomly, and when I lift the canopy lid.

I took the bulbs out and cleaned everything I could reach with a Q-tip and found that the plastic pieces that hold the bulbs (sorry - don't know the terminology) are all cracked in various places. These pieces are also not attached firmly and wobble back and forth - they look like they're ready to crumble. It's also very diffucult to remove the bulbs because of this.

I can't find anyone who just repairs lights, and I didn't pay a fortune for this one anyway so I figure the only option is to replace it. I am curious if I should up the number of bulbs.

  8. Planning on sticking with T5's. I've already tried CF's and I don't have a chiller or fans in my canopy so I figure MH's are out. Maybe a MH/T5 combo would be ok? I would consider LED's, but I don't know much about them. Would be interested to know the cost and what sort of color they give. Ultimately looking for something that is cost effective that doesn't produce too much heat.

Have not checked with any LFS because I figured they would be more expensive than getting something online.

  9. Our lights are on their way out and I need to replace them as soon as possible - the corals are not happy!

We currently have a 36" 4 bulb T5 Tek Light fixture that has been attached to the canopy. Just fish and soft corals (mushrooms, frogspawn, hammerhead, zoas, GBTA, etc)

    So some questions:

    * should we get another fixture, or is a retrofit kit the way to go?

    * is a splashguard a good idea? (always had salt buildup and water droplets on the underside of our current fixture, and the plastic parts where the bulbs go in are all cracked - kinda wondered if a splashguard would have prevented this)

    * some retrofit kits say they have waterproof endcaps (and some don't specify) - is this a must?

    * Would it be a good idea to get something with more bulbs (6 or 8) this go round?

    * Are there certain brands or sites that are better than others? Have looked on Ebay and Amazon and there are looots of options....

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

  10. Hi All! Our lights are dying and we need to replace them as soon as possible - the corals are getting fed up .....

Looking for a 36" T5 retro fit kit or light fixture in good condition. At least 4 bulb, more would be better. Will also consider a T5/MH combo. Fans are preferable but not necessary.

Let us know what you've got and how much you're asking!

  11. I have a 4 bulb T5 fixture attached to my canopy hood. Only about a year old and it's been giving me problems for the last month - keeps switching on and off randomly, turns off when I lift the lid, will only turn on two of the bulbs sometimes, etc.

I have tried replacing the bulbs, unpluging the light and trying another power source and rotating the bulbs with no success.

Any suggestions on how I could fix it? Or know someone that could do it for a reasonable price? Can't find a lighting repair anywhere in the area. A LFS suggested replacing the ballasts.. I'm no electrician but wouldn't the lights not turn on at all if it was the ballasts?

    Thanks for reading!
