  1. So we just moved, and the aquarium is the last to go. Unfortunately, we just found out the spot it's supposed to go in has a leak behind the wall and it will have to be torn out next week. Can't wait to move the tank because the lease is up. So the tank will have to be in an awkward spot for a couple of weeks. So my question is, am I going to have to tear down a tank full of fish full of live rock and fish twice in one month? Or, can I put something like those furniture sliders underneath once it's in the new house (before filling), and scoot it to the spot it needs to be in? What if we drained half the water? Is there an easier way to do this, or is this just wishful thinking? If anyone has experience or thoughts on the situation please let me know because I have to get the tank tomorrow! Thanks in advance Details: I am not trying to move a full aquarium across town, just about 4 ft across the room. 85 gal saltwater with 20 gal sump, full of live rock, fish and corals. Solid wood stand. Wood floor
  2. well etannert, it's not the bulbs because they're less than a month old. The light has been on the fritz for the last month or so - turning on and off randomly, and when I lift the canopy lid. I took the bulbs out and cleaned everything I could reach with a Q-tip and found that the plastic pieces that hold the bulbs (sorry - don't know the terminology) are all cracked in various places. These pieces are also not attached firmly and wobble back and forth - they look like they're ready to crumble. It's also very diffucult to remove the bulbs because of this. I can't find anyone who just repairs lights, and I didn't pay a fortune for this one anyway so I figure the only option is to replace it. I am curious if I should up the number of bulbs.
  3. Planning on sticking with T5's. I've already tried CF's and I don't have a chiller or fans in my canopy so I figure MH's are out. Maybe a MH/T5 combo would be ok? I would consider LED's, but I don't know much about them. Would be interested to know the cost and what sort of color they give. Ultimately looking for something that is cost effective that doesn't produce too much heat. Have not checked with any LFS because I figured they would be more expensive than getting something online.
  4. Our lights are on their way out and I need to replace them as soon as possible - the corals are not happy! We currently have a 36" 4 bulb T5 Tek Light fixture that has been attached to the canopy. Just fish and soft corals (mushrooms, frogspawn, hammerhead, zoas, GBTA, etc) So some questions: * should we get another fixture, or is a retrofit kit the way to go? * is a splashguard a good idea? (always had salt buildup and water droplets on the underside of our current fixture, and the plastic parts where the bulbs go in are all cracked - kinda wondered if a splashguard would have prevented this) * some retrofit kits say they have waterproof endcaps (and some don't specify) - is this a must? * Would it be a good idea to get something with more bulbs (6 or 8) this go round? * Are there certain brands or sites that are better than others? Have looked on Ebay and Amazon and there are looots of options.... Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

  6. Well, my lights just healed themselves... weird. I didn't do anything different. Prob a wiring thing? Thanks for all the suggestions. And thanks for the offer KaceyJ - I may need to take you up on it if the lights go on the fritz again!
  7. Yup, double checked all the bulbs and they're in properly. It's regular unit, not retrofit.
  8. Hey, does anyone know where I can go to get my T5 fixture fixed on the fly? Or, any ideas on how to fix it? It worked fine until yesterday when I changed two of the bulbs out - now it doesn't want to turn on. Bulbs flicker on and off when I rotate them. Tried unplugging, moving the cords...nothing. Plugs are fine, power lights are on. I'd appreciate any suggestions!
  9. So my husband and I are building a house this year, and yesterday he suggested that we look into having a tank built into a wall. Has anyone attempted this before? Any thoughts on pros and cons?
  10. I recently lost my tiger tail cuc - guess it was too much for him when I had to switch tanks. No problems with "nuking" though... I did do a large water change before I discovered him dead - maybe that's why he didn't affect the water. I'm definitely going to get another. Before introducing him to my tank I battled all sorts of sand issues, but he kept my sand spic and span!
  11. Interested! Just depends on the date - we'll be going out of town later this month and I need to make sure we'll be here to pick up the order!
  12. Thanks for organizing the order, August and Jake! Everything looks better than I expected And thanks alot to Mcallahan for picking up for us northies!
  13. Is there anyone in the North area that I might be able to coordinate with for pickup?
  14. What a gorgeous set up! All your hard work has really payed off. I don't know if I could sleep at night If I had such a beauty.... is there such thing as tank insurance?
  15. Interesting! And it makes sense - usually when I'm stressed I wish there were two of me! Any opinions on whether or not this is too many anemones to keep in a 65 gal? Current count is two GBTA's and one small RBTA.
  16. This is getting weirder.... I just found another GBTA stuck to the side my sump! With a plastic dosing fork stuck in his foot! (no idea how the fork ended up in the tank) This guy has been on a wild ride! Did the original nem get torn in half? Will they both survive? Did my clowns hire the cleaner shrimp as a hit man to get rid of the nem because they heard me calling them stupid because they wouldn't go near it !? The plot thickens.... Just found in sump Hard to see, but look in the middle. Found in the overflow.
  17. So I've had a GBTA for the last four months or so. Got back from vacation, and he was gone - just disappeared. I figured he got caught in a powerhead and dissolved over time. That was over three weeks ago .... and I found the dummy yesterday in my overflow behind some pipes (NO idea how he even got in there - the slats are tiny). I put him back in his spot and he stuck for awhile, then crawled halfway under a rock. He doesn't look good at all - discolored, puny, white on the tips of his tentacles. Is there anything I can do for him? My first inclination was to feed him alot, but I'm not sure. Do these guys bounce back easily, or are they pretty delicate? And on another note, I got a RBTA a few days ago. Will they co-exist peacefully?
  18. Sorry to hear you're getting out of the hobby! In case you don't sell the setup as a whole, please put me down for the dragonfly colony, orange ric, hammer head and Mandarin.
  19. Does anyone out there have experience with these guys? I got one a few days ago and I feel like there is a bomb in my tank!! He hasn't moved much at all. Is this a bad sign? Has anyone had the dreaded "cuke nuke" happen to their tank?
  20. PM sent re Purple Deaths and frogspawn hybrid
  21. PM'd re: frogspawn (when tank was posted in other forum)
  22. I'm trying to figure out the best way to direct the flow in my tank. I'm working with one Koralia 4, one Koralia 3, and my return that pushes a good amount of water, in a 65 gal tank. I currently have a Koralia on each side of the the tank angled toward each other, and the return is coming out of a box in the rear LH corner. I'm having a hard time finding a good balance. Seems like either my sand gets shifted around alot, the surface becomes too agitated, or my polyps and other corals look like they're in a tornado! Any suggestions? Could I have too much flow going on?
