  1. I've got one unopend bag of black aragonite sand (it's not live sand anymore) and about half a bag of white aragonite sand.

    I also have two styrofoam shipping containers (one is in a shipping cardboard box).

    Free to good home. Call 695-9779 to see if they are still here. First come first serve. We're just North of Austin, near the 45/35 intersection.

    I probably won't be on-line much so just call.

    Thanks

    Kevin

  2. Funny that this thread should start back up.

    I've got the MaxSpect 160. I've got a Australian Delicate that has easily doubled in size since August. On the other hand, I've got two SPSs that appear to have died (I suspect a yellow goby got to them). I don't know if that helps.

    I just cleaned my fixture today. Took it apart and vacuumed the fans and heat sink. I had a temp problem when I first put it back together, but I think I fixed it. We'll see.

    And I've found my only complaint with the unit so far. One of the screws I needed to take out was stripped (by the factory).

  3. We missed the last CUC order and we can't wait any longer.

    We're going to be making a Live Aquaria order within three weeks.

    Any interest in a group order? You'd have to let me know and pay via paypal. We live in Round Rock and pick up would be here.

    It's free shipping if we get to $225. I've got $50 and some change so far.

    If there's sufficient interest, I'll add the information for payment and pickup and we'll get this going. We're planning on having delivery on the first or second Friday in March (the 3th or 11th)

    Thanks

  4. Thanks Hydro. I just did a deep claen for the skimmer. I hope that takes care of it. No damage on the impeller and the pump is blowing pretty good.

    I also may have inadverntedly fixed the airline that I didn't know wasn't open fully. We'll see.

  5. Hi guys, I need a second opinion. First, I've been really bad and not checked my chemistry in a couple of months.

    Current parameters

    Nitrites < .3 (test only has that as lowest)

    Nitrates 0

    Calcium between 250-300

    Magnesium 1300ppm

    kH = 9

    pH = 8.1

    PO4 = 0

    Currently, I've got the koralia, an aquaclear powerhead, and an aquaclear 70 HIB filter with two phosphate absorbing pads in it. I have a skimmer, a Tunze, but it rarely collects very much, I think the tank is just too clean for skimmate to form.

    What else, Oh, I've got LEDs that are less than a year old. 160W worth, 2-30 watt LED spots, 13 3W whites and 13 3W actinic bulbs. The spots are about 15,000K and the 3W whites are about 8000K.

    Dosing is, I use two tablespoons of Seachem reefbuilder alkalinty (not the 8.3 version) mixed into a gallon of RO, that gets used up in about two days worth of top off. I top-off at night and then add 5ml of calcium (Kent Marine Liquid Calcium) in the morning. I occasionally replace the calcium with 5ml of Kent Essential Elements when the magnesium gets low.

    I'm having major algae issues. My koralia and pump intake will clog in a few days if I don't keep on them. I'm getting a little bit of the nasty slimy hair algae, but only in the outflow of the koralia.

    I've got green puffy algae (like cotton balls) all over the koralia, the other powerhead and on the glass near the other powerhead.

    I was trying to keep some pretty macro algae to consume nutrients from the other algae, but it's turning white and dying off (I suspect lack of calcium, which, for some reason is a stone ***** to maintain in my tank).

    I have lost a yellow clown goby recently. I don't know if he's just hiding or dead, never found a body, but that's not too surprising with the tank. The other fish are healthy, though the tail-spot blenny seems to be hiding some as well and not coming out to eat, though I see him peck at the algae wall.

    I've got SPS that are doing very well, zoas and softies are doing very well, everything appears healthy.

    I don't even want to talk about the bubble algae.

    Any advice?

  6. I wanted to add something about chillers and MH lighting that I haven't mentioned. The reason that LEDs tanks typically don't need chiller is because they don't emmit as much IR as MH. LED fixtures still get very warm but that heat isn't projected down in to the tank. IR from MH bulbs actually warms anything that it strikes inside the tank which in turn warms the water. Same as the sun does.

    One of my questions about this is do some or all corals so better with IR and UV waves? Seems like coral that is in shallow water may benefit from this but deepwater corals would never be exposed.

    This is definitely true. The LED bulbs get hot enough to melt the plastic (POS) cover that is on the tank... if they are touching it. If there's even a half inch clearance, the plastic cover doesn't get very warm at all.

    Just from what I've picked up, corals should pretty much ignore IR radiation.

  7. The tank looks bright for sure. From the pictures it looks like overall the spectrum is around 10k, would you agree? What is the total wattage (power consumption) of your fixture?

    Mine is 160W total. The 30W are 'supposed' to be about 14k-15K, while the 3W whites are supposed to be 10K.

    I'lll add that the power consumption is two computer fans in a large aluminum housing for heat dissipation.

  8. Mc, you can come see my tank anytime.

    I've been running LEDs for 9 months now and am pretty happy with them. I've got a collection of SPSs and getting good growth. A Birdsnest and Hydrophora are near the bottom of the tank and getting very good growth. They are both 22 inches from the LED (with a piece of crap clear plastic plate between them.

    I've got 30W white spots and about 40 3W whites and blues.

  9. I've got the Aquascape Construction Epoxy. It just doesn't seem to adhere... it sets fine.

    To make a structure though, you basically have to wrap the two pieces in a layer of the expoxy and the hardened epoxy acts has a brace, but it's not really holding to the rock.

    Thanks
