I got to ask what "STN" stands for. From the preceding posts I think N is for Necrosis (worst country song title EVER!) but what about the S and T?

This morning when I got up the tank electricity was completely off. I tried resetting the GFI outlet but the reset button keeps popping out. I hooked the tank to another plug using an extension cord so it is back up and running. Question: can GFI outlets go bad? I am thinking of calling an electrician cause I know practically nothing about this and I am afraid I could not spot a problem if there was one. Suggestions?

My 20000K (or as I like it) 20KK rebuilt light is over the tank and it looks wonderful. Elizzy, let me know how you like the controller and how easy you found it to program. I am thinking about getting one.

I bought a 12000K BuildMyLed fixture from Aquatek about 14 or 15 months ago. I started having problems with it about a week ago. Parts of the light would go dark and the parts varied. I contacted BML who said that I had a 3 year warranty and they would fix or replace. I took it to them over on Ben White Wednesday afternoon and Cara assures me I can pick it up tomorrow (Saturday) morning. I upgraded to the 20000K for a nominal fee and they also replaced the 75 degree lenses with 90 degrees to give a better spread. They have been very helpful and responsive to the issue. I appreciate it when a company actually stands behind their product.

If possible, add phosguard or rowaphos to your filter. Remove the phosphorus and the algae dies.

I must have committed a major faux pas. I apparently killed this thread. Wonder which was the magic word?

What kind of algae are we trying to get? I thought it was just the usual hair variety. I guess I need to know more about the "algae seeds" someone discussed earlier.

I have a question about ATS in general. I know that a moving bed filter needs an air source for the aerobic bacteria. Does the ATS also need an air source? Wade mentions a bubble wand but does algae need that type of aeration?

I'd like to borrow the trap if I could. When are you available tomorrow?

I wonder if you need a fishing license in private tanks?

I have a Picasso trigger (Huma Huma) that is a royal pain in the butt. He eats nearly anything and everything I try to add to the tank. I am trying to catch him but he is way too fast for me and my net. I need to borrow either a short pole with a very small hook or some kind of fish trap. Anyone have any ideas? I hate to break down all the rock just to catch him but that may be my last resort. Did I mention I have a very pretty trigger for sale?

The pump is definitely the problem. I turned it off and the temp dropped a degree in 15 minutes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't cleaned it in a while.

My water temperature is slowly rising. It is about 80. I put another fan blowing on the sump and it is still slowly rising. My return pump is getting kinda old. I am using a Mag9.5. Could the rising temperature indicate that the pump is going out? Any suggestions for a quiet, cool running return pump?
