  1. I'm thinking about getting an 8 gallon BioCube. Would a very little yellow watchman goby and a clown goby be okay together? Thanks for your input!
  2. is totally creeped out by big bristle worms!!

    1. Eel Keeper

      Eel Keeper

They taste good if you cook them right. Just kidding. They creep me out too!

  3. We have a 34 gallon Solana with LPS, 2 clowns, a lawnmower blenny, and a little blue hippo tang. We'd like to add another fish, but need suggestions!! We're hoping to find a fish that will swim in the open water quite a bit. Any ideas? THANKS!
  4. So far, our new skunk cleaner shrimp hasn't interacted with any of our fish yet. The shrimp is out and about and the wrasse is swimming all over the tank. Any ideas on how to get them together so the cleaner shrimp can help out with whatever is affecting the wrasse? Or is this relationship/cleaning thing just something that takes a few days to happen?
  5. A hitchhiker is essentially any organism that you inadvertently added to your tank....could be anything attached to a live rock or in your sand or on a coral. We've found all sorts of worms and sea stars, even little crabs and fish that were hiding in live rock when we purchased it.
  6. We have a bunch of peppermint shrimp. They are mostly active at night, but they are very skittish. I was up last night with a flashlight trying to find something else (probably a hitchhiker) in our tank. The peps were very active, but except for occasionally bumping into something, they didn't go near anybody.
  7. Thanks seahorse! Someone on MAAST suggested that it might be fin rot. We are going to test all the parameters again just to make sure nothing weird has happened. We set a bottle trap last night just in case, but didn't catch anything as of this morning (of course, I had dreams all night about catching all sorts of crazy things!). We are going to keep an eye on him, continue to treat with garlic, and move him to a QT if he doesn't improve in the next couple days.
  8. This wrasse seems to sleep in the rockwork most of the time...he basically disappears though. We've seen him on the sandbed a couple times, but we've never seen him dig or bury himself. I believe our substrate is Carib Sea Aragonite. I'm thinking either some hidden, unknown predator or a disease is the culprit here. I don't think any of our known fish or inverts is attacking him. I'm wondering if it would be better to leave the wrasse in the tank, continue to treat with garlic, and see if we can figure it out. Or, if we should move him to another tank or set up a QT so he doesn't keep getting attacked. He is extremely difficult to catch and gets pretty stressed so I don't want to move him unless it's necessary.
  9. Thanks for your replies. I'll try to get better shots of the spot near his tail when I get home tonight. On closer inspection, it definitely looks more like a hole...like the flesh has been removed in some way. We picked up a skunk cleaner shrimp at Fishy Business yesterday to see if that would help. Based on my description of the wrasse, Shane thought it might be a bristleworm stinging the wrasse while he sleeps. If that's the case, and we manage to find the worm, will the wrasse recover? Any thoughts on how to find/capture the worm or other predator?
  10. Our half-and-half wrasse has recently started showing some white spots and we just noticed that part of his tail is torn. Our hippo tang has been rubbing against things in the tank and we've been treating with garlic...the wrasse just started rubbing against things as well. Any ideas on whether this is ich? And how should we proceed? We'd like to treat pretty aggressively as this guy is our favorite little fishy! Pics attached...notice the white spot near where his tail meets his body..that is usually solid black. You can also see in the pictures the missing part of tail. Thanks so much for any advice! Ashley
  11. Thank you, thank you, thank you....every time I look at the forums page, I get sad for that poor doggie! You mods rock!
  12. Mike, I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. Know that you gave him a wonderful home and did everything in your power to take care of him. I talked to you once about your kitty at Prof's house....when my boyfriend and I got in the car, I said, "I like that Mike, he knows kitties come first." My thoughts are with you. Hang in there. Ashley
  13. I know the animal rights' people were not too happy about the Qua tank, but I also heard that the acrylic was getting all scratched up from high heels!! Oops!
  14. I was wondering about Amazonia...I passed their new location near Mueller recently and wondered what they are up to. Do they still only carry freshwater?
  15. We just left RCA with the cutest, tiniest little porcupine puffer. He's about the size on a nickel!
  16. Yep, sounds like they are doing exactly what they do! It is actually really entertaining to watch them....our pistol shrimp is hilarious!
  17. We aren't currently running a skimmer on the nanocube, but could certainly look into getting one for the puffer. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. I definitely wouldn't want to risk the puffer being unhappy in a little tank.
  18. Looking for opinions/experience with putting a small porcupine puffer in a 24 gallon nanocube with an already established watchman goby/pistol shrimp pair. Is the puffer likely to mess with the goby? Do puffers do okay with zoas and LPS? Thanks for any info and thoughts.
  19. PM austinaquaman. He just posted some nice hammer coral frags.
  20. Does anyone know where I might find a white-tipped white torch coral? I saw one several weeks ago at RCA and have been kicking myself for not getting it. I've looked online and can't seem to find anything similar. This coral had white stalks with bright white tips...the whole thing had an almost iridescent, pearly look to it. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks, ashley
  21. Thanks everybody! Not to worry....this particular guy made it back into the tank!
  22. Hi All, Any idea what this guy is? I've seen a handful of them in our tank. Is he good or bad? Thanks!
