  1. My major problem with this is going to be when the computer geek inside starts planning what it can do and starts arguing with the checkbook and wants the full blown system, when a used RKII or an RK Lite could cover what I need...

I do believe the RK lite has different options though. If I read it correctly there is one without temp, orp, ph slots to be able to plug probes into. If this is correct, be sure to pick the right one.

I was thinking about the same point on the RK with the things that are available, such as turning fans, chiller, and heater on when the tank reaches or drops to a certain temperature. It will also shut lights off if temp continues to rise above a desired temp. The RK2 gives you a wavemaker and a one touch standby mode to shut off all pumps and powerheads. I think this controller gives the computer geek what he desires in a controller, and it gives the simple minded people like me what we desire. The Reefkeeper is well worth the 300.00 i spent.

  2. Now see I absolutely wanted to stay away from a controller that needs to be programmed through a PC. I 100% wanted a controller that I could easily walk up to and make a simple change via a +/- button on a LED face. I wanted it to be that simple that anyone can do it. I've just spent 5 hours trying in vain to unlock a cell phone using software that was designed to do it simply. I absolutely do not want to interface my tank's controller to a PC and configure it to broadcast random bits of information into the air. I would absolutely hate the idea of getting a tank meltdown notice while at work, considering it only if I could actually program it to work, as my job would fire me if I told them I had to go home and tend to my tank. Honestly I'd rather not know until I got home.

Oh and I have no idea on Earth what the hell an ethernet port is and how it affects shipping. I've been to Port Aransas a few times. Is it anything like that?

Mike we have had our dissagreements but I agree with you 100%. I don't bother even trying to link my reefkeeper to my computer, and wouldnt know how if i did want to.

    P.S. look no caps ;)

  3. James,

I think like Cindy, with respect to controllers. None are worth what they cost. With respect to lights and pumps there are simple end devices (timers, level controllers, temperature probes) that already control single function events. I am a big believer in the KISS principal (keep it simple). Decide in advance what are critical parameters and get simple solutions. If you want to get a feel for what is out there, go to Aquatic Eco-Systems. They supply equipment for fish hatcheries. See what the commercial market has available.

    Pat

I thought that at one time, but then did research on the controllers and bought the reefkeeper 2 and will not go back. I love my reefkeeper and would recomend it to anyone.

  4. I had the same problem frags, even whole colonies losing tissue and i couldnt guess why. I asked and someone asked what my alk was at and it was low low low... Like 4 :D . I got that under control and im starting to get my corals back.

  5. Your sump is made almost exactly like mine. do you have a problem with microbubbles at all from the refugium spilling over into the return? I fought that for a long time and just put a piece of acrilic in there and that fixed the microbubble nightmare.

  6. I use 2 giesman 54 w true blue actenics. That is all I've ever used so thats all I know but they do the trick. A good thing to do is look at the color chart on the bulb package to see what colors that bulb puts out. Corals like the violet, green, and red so if the chart is high on those I think you will do well with that. Steve Tyree has a lecture on disc that he sells on his site that explains in detail the color spectrum, and how different colored corals react and perfer different colors that the bulbs give off. ( If that makes any sense I guess it sounds better in my head).

Hey mike those corals are doing great that i got from you. I posted pics of them.

  7. I think you and I have the same make of tank. I recognize the tall outflow and return tubes. Do you have a sump underneath the stand?

Well they are both overflows, and my sump is under the tank.

My tank is a 90g bowfront with a 29g sump.

    Skimmer EV180 with a mag 9.5 pump .

    Lighting 2 250w mh 20k = 2 110w vho actenic=and 2 54w T5 actenics

    all ran on ReefKeeper 2

  8. THAT IS CRAZY! "SEA KITTENS" ...... SEA KITTENS??!! I'VE GOT SO MUCH STUFF GOING ON IN MY HEAD RIGHT NOW, BUT I CANT EVEN PUT IT TOGETHER TO MAKE SENSE. ITS JUST A JUMBLED MESS, AND ALL I CAN GET OUT OF THE WHOLE MESS IS " SEA KITTENS". I GUESS THAT WOULD MAKE ME SPEECHLESS. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO PEOPLE? WE ARE AT WAR, THERE ARE BOMBS GOING OFF IN RANDOM PLACES,DESEASE KILLING PEOPLE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. BIN LADEN IS STILL OUT THERE SOMEWHERE AND THESE PEOPLE ARE ...... SEA KITTENS.....

  9. i have no clue what this means

OK .... YOU KNOW THE PLASTIC PIECE THAT YOU USE TO CONNECT 2 PIECES OF AIR LINE TUBING TOGETHER ?

IT LOOKS LIKE WHAT BROKE OFF BUT IT IS DOUBLE SIDED SO YOU CAN CONNECT 2 PIECES OF TUBE TOGETHER AND MAKE 1 TUBE. JUST GET ONE OF THOSE AND STICK IT IN THE HOLE, THEN YOU WILL HAVE THE OTHER END STICKING OUT SO YOU CAN CONNECT YOUR TUBE TO IT. I SAID YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DRILL THE HOLE OUT A BIT TO MAKE IT FIT.
