So I got a pistol/goby pair from aqua tek the other day with 2 small margaritas. I had my reservations against taking the stuff and should have put them on hold since they had literally just been taken out of their bag from being shipped. the pistol was a nice red/white, pretty small, and the banded goby is litteraly 1/4" to 1/2" tops. It was going in my 3g. In there is a golden banded shrimp. Only thing I was worried about was the fish, being very small and possible food for the banded. End of story.. Acclimated everything and went home. Came back the next day, thoguht all was dea . I found the little fish holding up in a small cave still alive. Something killed the pistol...looks like he went into a molt or something, even that thing was only 1/2". 1 snail hardly moving, 1 dead. Kinda bummed, should have asked them to hold them, I think two moves in a couple hours was too much, but Im not sure. I dont think the banded would have taken down the pistol, but any opinions? The pistol was pretty active when I left? Kinda bummin, was a 65$ pair Params on the tank ore perfect.

OK I have been trying to nail this tank down. I just did a 20% water change on the 9th. My top off water is RO with PH of 8.8, Kh 0. Now..... 7/9 PH 8.1 Kh 13 NO3 5 Ca 560 Mg 1400 7/12 PH 7.9 Kh 13 NO3 5 Ca 500 Mg 1400 The Kh makes no sense to me. Now this is 930am I tested the PH vs. maybe 3pm so if that kinda makes sense right? does it go down at night? Ca makes sense and Mg has been stable for a while. I just did 2- 20% water changes 2 days in a row to see if I could balance the tank out. My Kh had been pushing 20. Might have to ask Randy this one. Kh isnt supposed to go up right? On its own heh.7

I know its not the right place to ask. But do any of you have a a picture of the Topoff.com installed? I know in a sump its easy. I want to see what it looks like in a tank. I just looks kinda big.

Meeting Room is not an issue usually as its the back of a Restaurant, not really a meeting room. Those I would have to charge yas for laughing8.gif I do need to fly out that evening for a meeting on Monday as well. As long as we do it late morning I would be good on the 30th.

So far 2 - (20-25%) water changes later all is in line. Thank You. I think I am slowly figurin this chemistry out. My Calcium is off the chart, but other than that all is good. Just topping off with striaght RO for a few days and monitoring. Yesterday I was at 13Kh. Figure 3 days or so should be good.

Makes sense. Its kinda wierd too, under the atinics some of the tissue spots that I have brushed are bright red. Kinda wierd. I do see the outer edges flaking off. Clif had it in his tnk under MH, but about 4-500watts in a 125. I got 200 in a 20; depth wise its probably not too different. I think the high Alk might have shocked it or something I got a Coral Beauty I was telling you about that is getting worse not sure if I can save it, the stress of trying to catch it will prob. kill it The last few dyas I got some stuff from andrew that is looking great, so I have had some window screens over the tank the last few days so it has had some shade. pretty big of a rock in my tank to shade it any other way. You think the baterial infection would spread though? It doesnt seem like it is. Just strange that this fish has same thing or a parasite.

I have dangerously (probably) "scrubbed" some of it off in the tank. It hasnt spread to anything else... yet.... but it keeps coming back. And no polyps yet btw, been little over a week.

Just curious. Mine is awfully high, above my 8.6 or so kit. Its a culligan drinking water system. anyone else use one of these? Kh is 0.

Ya. I figured the water changes would be it. Just that my salt mix comes out with a 8 or 9 Kh with no buffer. It'll take a while to get that down And yea, I just bought new text kits to double check

Is there any way to get the Kh of my tank down easily? It was up to 20 a few days ago, now 18, I am topping off with straight RO water, but that will take a while to come down that way. Did a 10% water change, thats how it got to 18 . I must have put the wrong buffer in the top off or something PH is 8.1. Alk is the only thing out of whack. And Im hoping that is whats causing me to have problems ridding my gsp from its white plague outburst. Dipped it 2x already. Keeps coming back. Scrubbed it with a toothbrush tonight with a fresh water iodine bath this time to see if that makes a dent. Its awful pretty and purple now Tomorrow afternoon it could be all white an fuzzy in spots again though. I figure the Kh is my culpit.

OK I know Im paranoid but, it still not open, been 4 days no big deal. But whats this stuff? This fuzzy white stuff appeared this morning. Looks fuzzy, not slimy, havent stabbed at it yet It doesnt blow off though.

Its been a long time. But many years ago most of us did bare bottom tanks and used a t-bar much like you are thinking of. You ight find that you will build upa wall of sand in the front of the tank with that. But who knows. If I remember right I used regular pvc glue for it. Of course fully cure before in you put it in the tank I think that big pump might work out real well with all the elbows and t-bar etc.. your gonna be putting in. Havent seen anyone do that with sand though.

Seems to be shedding a bit. doesnt stink. I notice my gorgonian shedds like that. Although it doesnt grow either , hehe. I am gonna try to pick up some good PH and KH test kits today to see if I can narrow down this instability with my ph.

I know Im battling PH probs. But everything in the tank slooks great. However I bought a nice piece of GSP from Clif. Its been a few days and no sign on polyp from it. I have never had much luck with these. Is there a trick to them? I do have them under a MH I was wondering if I should shield it. there is no way for me to shade it, its kind of a big rock. Usually take a week or so to see any extension?

There is no tank to look at, but... I run Food & Beverage at the Austin Mariott downtown. Our Restaurant has a back section to it that seats 50 or so. I feed the UT Basketball & Baseball teams back there all the time . Anyway I would not rent it to you all. Just hope to get some appetizer or beer sales out of a few of ya and its yours.

You could also just pick up a real small piece of acryllic at HD, prob 1/8" and bend a table out of it with a blow toch, doesnt take much heat. Kinda fun actually

I got some "scrap" acryllic from Austin PLastics for like 15 bucks. PLayed around with a blow tourch bending 2 corners and using weld on for the rest. Put in a black valance "fake" back wall and put in a few really tight like 2"x2" baffles that hold the heater, some floss and the small pump. Its not incredibly pretty, I dont own a routing table, but Im proud of it. It dont leak Anyway got a small pump and a 10" 26w light fixture from catalinaaquarium, pretty impressed with that light. Tank is about 14x8x12h. I will post some pics in a few days. BTW where do you tink I could find one of those pandas, neat lookin fish, never seen one. I would hate to mail order one fish. Maybe Carlos or Steve at Horizons would order me one.

Great link. Thanks much. I cant tell you how amazed I am with this little 3g. I think because it doesnt have 150x water movement my other tank has. Plus its right infront of my face on my desk. There seems like sooo many more pods and stuff going on. Besides no fish. I let this tank cycle with just rock for a couple weeks. Amazing the life and color I got in there. Just wish that shrimp would show itself a little more. Tried to build a ledge for him to perch under. But of course hed rather be behind the rock
