  2. sure, DO RESEARCH!!!!!

now I have found with most fish that you buy at a LFS there is a 50/50 chance of it making it. Most fish are pulled straight from the ocean packed into boxes and shipped half way around the world only to be put in tank with high levels and tons of other fish.

without more info it will be hard to help you. It could be as simple as what I just said or the conditions of your water are bad.

can you give us some numbers? also maybe what temps the tanks reach during the day.

opps almost forgot the last two things

    anything

    please

    ; )

  3. i once saw a site where a guy did something like that but for MH lighting. The tank was split in two and you could choose what bulb you wanted to see, so you could see them side by side. It was really neat but I cant find it anywhere, if somebody out there knows please chime in.

  4. oh forgot to add make sure your rocks dont smell like bleach, mine didnt smell anymore after the first rinse but i didnt another just to make sure.

dang it i forgot this also and this is really important.

if you DO NOT KNOW THE SOURCE of where or what tank this rock came from you might need to start by soaking for a week and testing for copper. If you do find copper you can not use this rock in saltwater tanks, copper will leech out of those rocks forever and kill many things.

  5. there are so many thing that could have been on that rock when it "died" that you do not want anywhere near your tank. Using bleach will help to rid any left overs that could be harsh on your tank, also taking a brush and scrubbing it is a must along with blasting the crap out of it with a hose.

Ok here is what I did.

i lay all rock in my driveway and blast with hose for a long time

put rock in in container with bleach water, mine was a 20 tub with one full big bottle of bleach and the rest water.

made sure I had power heads in tub to circulate water. did this for about 5 days to a week.

took rocks out and lay in driveway again and blast with water. FOR A LONG TIME.

Put rocks back in tub but this time with only ro water and power heads. Let sit for a week.

take rock put in driveway and blast with water. for a long time.

Put rocks back in tub with ro and power heads, let sit for another week.

by this time I was ready to put into my new tank, I took rocks out of water and put them into the new tank with a few pieces of live rock to seed.

Waited a few months and then adding the first coral.

I would always stay on the safe side when it comes to setting up your tank. Doing it right from the start can save you lots o monies : )

  6. if it really is for only one hour I would not worry about it at all.

But I just had an idea! Dont turn your light on at all that day, and maybe only run your return. Should help with heat issues and its always good to do once in a while anyway

  7. i like to soak the rock a a bleach water combo for a few days, then dump water and do that one more time. After the second bleach stage I run the rock in r/o once or twice to rid of an bleach.

If you would like to add it to a tank that is already running then you will need to cycle the rock, could take a month or two.

  8. just as the title says I am looking for a 40g breeder tank with no scratches. It can also be another tank that is 36" long as long as it not taller than the breeder.

please send me a pm if you have anything of even if you see something on craigslist.

    thanks jason

  9. honestly it sounds to me like your tank has not cycled yet. Ammonia and diatoms are what you see during your cycling period. The emperor could be the cause for some nitrate issues down the road but i dont think it should be a problem at the moment.

I would try to do at LEAST 5 gallon water changes every week till the tank becomes stable (good 6 months or so). Now after that depending what corals you would like to keep you can keep it the same or do them less.

I also have some nice easy ideas for your sump but we can talk about that this weekend.

    hope it helps.

  10. I think both the cadlights and finnex are great but he said best : ) to me thats the elos with cadlight right behind.

If it was me I would get a 40g breeder, save you some money and you get an awesome footprint.
