  1. It will be different in every house. My TDS is over 999ppm, but my parents house is around 150ppm.
  2. Okay, I'll get one for you Karen and a few for myself. Did you want a K4 or 3 or what?
  3. I do not call the butterfly or angelfish reef safe. Click these and tell me if you like any of them. Yellow Watchman Goby Spotted Wrasse Royal Gramma Scott's Fairy Wrasse Flasher Wrasse
  4. Be careful with wrasses. They're probably my favorite and the best idea, but many are not reef safe. Other than that you could get a chromis, indigo dottyback, tang, sleeper blue dot goby, neon goby, pipefish, Cirrhilabrus punctatus, court jester goby, jawfish...there are many others that have blue. I might get a sleeper blue dot goby. They keep your sand clear of algae and stirred. So do jawfish. Some wrasses will also stir the sand when they burrow.
  5. You should use two 150w halides or T5s. There is a possibility that if you use halides you might need a chiller, but it really depends what kind you get and how they are mounted. I use T5s on my 105g and haven't had any problems.
  6. These are the only I found with Google. Maybe another search engine could turn up different results. I've never heard of a blue clownfish, and my best bet is that it was a common clown under intense actinic lights.
  7. Just be glad you didn't stumble onto thecaptivereef.com recently. I will never have enough money to get all the stuff I have on my want list. An Infinity G35, Pontiac Trans Am, 6x Pyle Audio PADH-21580, 2x Pyle Audio PASC218, Samson Audio SX1800, 4x Samson Audio SX2800, Numark CDN-95, then we finally get to reef equipment and livestock and you know how much that can cost. I'm thinking about $15k.
  8. I was only kidding. I'm not going to nominate myself. My tank is too plain and empty.
  9. See my recent post under your halide thread. (sum.- You may be better off using a suspended system instead of a canopy, unless you like the look of a canopy so much you're willing to make sacrifiices such as heat, cost, and accessability)
  10. fordmustang22 had some free crushed coral that we could split if he still has it. It's not "seeded" so it won't add any biodiversity, but if you want some "some oolitic type dry sand" it should work. I'm not sure if it's aragonite or rubble rock. I haven't had time to pick it up, but you can or this weekend I can. Will you send him a PM?
  11. I don't think he's selling a retrofit kit. Additionally, Odyssea has a bad reputation for poor quality. You may have to replace both the ballasts, all the bulbs, and the "bulb socket thiings," and it still might not fit in your canopy. If you're not opposed to it, you may be well off to consider a fixture that is suspended over the water rather than fitting inside a hood becuase it helps tremendously with the heat dissipation and easy access to the water. But, if you plan to keep fish that have a reputation of jumping, you may want have a screen that fits on top. If you replace the ballasts and the sockets you will be able to use 250w bulbs, but you could end up spending more on all those seperate parts than you would on a used fixture that fits your needs.
  12. You need two 250w halides, not 250w total. You can run that by andrew, gabe, and james, but I'm almost positive. I don't know what bananags is talking about. I think someone is bananas.
  13. The point of a fuge is to give the pods a safe place to dominate. Adding a clown would be defeating the purpose unless you have an herbavore tank and only use your fuge for filtration.

    Want to trade?

I'm interested in the monti, and maybe the others, but all I have to trade are some mushrooms.
  15. I have some mushrooms I could trade you. Are they always that color or do they get darker? I'm wondering if it's only "bleached out" a little.
  16. OH. That would explain his numerous posts. I looked on craigslist and it looks like he can get back in the hobby with over 100g for under one grand.
  17. I am searching this post and I don't see the picture or the price.
  18. Thanks to all who came to the meeting today. I had a great time and am looking forward to next month. Holy cow. I've been on this NutriSystem diet for a month and rewarded myself today for loosing 20lbs in 1 month by eating whatever I wanted. Now I feel sick after all the cookies and egg nog. I'll be going back on the diet tomorrow or Monday. Wish me luck on the next 20lbs.
  19. A small 100 gallon tank? LOL!! Isn't that an oxymoron? I have a 105g reef tank and I've spent: $300 - tank w/ stand $125 - sump $600 - lights $30 - heater $50 - return pump $300 - skimmer $80 - live sand $600 - live rock $80 - overflow box $60 - plumbing $180 - R/O DI 60gpd unit $60 - salt $100 - "clean up crew" $100 - powerheads $30 - light timer $20 - auto top off $20 - valves and 1/4in. compression tubing That comes out to about $2,750. That doesn't include any of my corals, fish, algae, foods, supplements, cleaning and backup equipment, etc. That's also considering I bought the tank, stand, and return pump as used. I would plan on around $3000.
  20. It depends on the type of hermit crab. There are many types that get that size. Some are reef safe and some aren't. If it not your typical "scarlet reef hermit crab" I would get rid of it, especially since you've seen it picking on other crabs and snails. I think the gobies are just hiding.

    liverock

I need some and so does jsr. We will both be at the meeting. If you can, please meet us there.
  22. I agree that you should get that timer for your lights that we talked about. On the other hand I would keep your mg as close to 1,290ppm as possible.
  23. I finally got some pictures.
