  1. Let me in on this. I feel you are feeding the algae with each water change somehow. Doing the same thing over and over again with no results. I would change water every 2 weeks or 10% a week. As a test. Right now its the main nutrient consumer in your tank. Chaeto or some other fast growing macro will start to compete with it. Not sure if that 5 watt light is enough light for good growth. More light more nutrients (faster water movement) usually = more growth. But over time this should work. Chemiclean blue is basicly DI resin and carbon. This can pull some stuff out of the water. Fritz; sounds like your algae is immune to it. Other options that work sometimes are; adding bacteria in a bottle, adding a tons of pods both Copepods and Amphipods. If you look at the mighty magnet site they have these algae scrubber pads. It is a nylon net that goes over a magnet and is good for scrubbing that hard to get off stuff. Sierra Bravo has some good points. Timfish has 2 threads on how he rid tanks of unwanted algae.
  2. Here is my feeding funny of the week. Had my hot tea cup on the counter tonight. Decided it was time to feed the fish. Popped out a few frozen cubes to put in the feeding container. Managed to put 2 in the tea. Yes I did drink them. Walk and chew gum at same time... not me.
  3. Its my understanding that Co2 in the air will mix with the water. This will alter the Ph and Alk of your mixed salt water.
  4. Email sent my phone is being repaired will have it back at 4:00
  5. Howdy Good lookin tank
  6. Dealing with it ???? Funny. I just see it as normal. I have been lazy and it needs a vac job. I went into this knowing I am not the spotless tank person like those stick guys. (you all now who you are). One polyp does not open and they know it. Algae and stuff does not bother me. If it was a bit smaller it might be a little cleaner. Maybe time for a few more snails to replace the pods my wrasses keep eating. I dont think the green is cyano. Green side gets blasted with flow and that green stuff likes it. Some sort of film algae. It is on the back walls and my lawnmower eats it everyday. The other side has a flow problem another mp60 would fix. In about a year I will be on the dole. Uncle Sam will be paying me, maybe I can get one. I have cut my Po4 in half and the red is not spreading any more. I think 2 vac jobs and it should be almost gone. It was almost gone until I messed with increasing my nitrates and phosphates. It has taken a about 2 months to calm back down. Or maybe its stuck in Christmas mode
  7. Its supposed to be water proof without a case. Still a bit weird sticking it underwater. Maybe today. No selfie stick. Im sure thats another $50. These things keep costing more and more.
  8. It was a roti deal sorry for the mix up. They had the pod deal around christmas Hi dana, Just a friendly reminder that today is the last day to take advantage of our Buy One Get One Free on Rotifers deal. We feed rotifers daily at Pod Your Reef because they are a natural and perfectly sized feed for corals and filter feeders. To take advantage of this sale make sure to add two or more rotifers to your cart and use the coupon code "freerots" at checkout. Happy Reefing, Josh
  9. Playing with gopro trying to figure out stuff . 2 pic FTS fisheye problem
  10. They can eat stuff off the chaeto until you start feeding your tank. You wont see big population growth without feeding unless you have an established tank. Josh is great, I just got in on the 2 for 1 pod deal from them.
  11. Hum.......That was in May and they are still alive and kickin. I did get 1 coral from you about a year ago (frogspawn). My urchin snapped off 2 of the maybe 30 now heads. My peppermints seem to like 8 certain heads and they stay pretty tight. The snapped off (frags) are growing back in. So with the fungus or what ever it is, might be in my tank now. Looks like you have them in pretty good flow? I dont recall your light? Thanks for the response.
  12. I see a place called Aquarium Depot has some that are orange with yellow tentacles.
  13. Thanks. Do you know if they are Dendro? or Sun?
  14. Thanks Good to know. Since i feed live foods 2x a day i think I can feed enough to keep Dendro's happy. Not sure about the Suns
  15. I have never had any and am looking for yellow. These seems a good fit as I ilke movement in the tank. Has any one had success or failure with either type? I have 2 spots that are 1/2 way down in my tank and somewhat shaded at the end of my valley. It gets pretty good random flow from 1 sea swirl , but nothing excessive. Oh and a place to buy them or get them for free.
  16. 1. When I get pods, do I put them in the back sump with the Chaeto, or just dump them straight into the main display? Maybe they're small enough to go through the return pump without problem? Are these something I can get at a LFS? In the past I never seeded my nano's with them. You can buy them online. I get both Copepods and Amphipods. You will need to feed them some phyto until the green film algae takes hold in your tank. They will find a way into your tank from the sump, however I seed both. 2. I didn't really think this through before but I really like GSP and figure it would be a good one to start with because of how hardy it is. However, I hear it spreads like weeds so I'm wondering if I can still put it on some of my rock work and take it off later or if I shouldn't even bother with the hassle and either skip it all together or glue it onto the back wall? GSP is fine. It does spread and you will need to try and keep it contained. It. does look great on the back wall of tanks. If you dont like it there you can scrape it off. Some people keep it on a rock island. Christyef likes it and has good success keeping it inline.
  17. Wait. There is no need for a clean up crew until they have something to clean up. What I do recommend is you get a coral or 2 to bring in some algae bacteria. You can also get some chaeto or other macro algae for your sump and that will do the same thing. Once you id the stuff growing you can get the clean up crew guys that will clean up that particular type. And dont forget to throw in some pods.
  18. I started with dry rock and its no big deal. it has been less than a year and I have tube worms, sponges, coraline, mini brittle stars, asterina stars, pods and who knows what else. You did good my friend. You still have the option to do a seed rock if you decide its wanted. If you did it at start up, you could not now undo it.
  19. The crypic sponges are growing at a snails pace. The filter socks might taking out a lot of nutrients before they reach the sponges. Last Sunday I took out the filter socks before feeding the corals. We shall see what effect that has. Maybe they are starving. One plus of having those sponge seed rocks is I now has a lot of tube/fan type worms and some non cryptic sponge growth in the DT.
  20. I thought this was funny. Bubble after a meal. Looks like a hot air ballon. Milky water is reef roids phyto and oyster feast. New gopro. Kinda not wanting to put it in the water yet.
  21. I found this sponge hidden in a darker part of the tank. In between some bubble that the crabs have not discovered. For size I had my flasher wrasse pose next to it. Seems to be covering about 2 inches of rock with just 1 opening in a portion that juts out. Its pink in color and at first I thought it was coralline. Now that it has an opening its prob a sponge. Any ideas as for an ID.
  22. Yes it could be ich. Get ready for some fun. If, for sure you decide it is, and I would get someone to come look at it on your fish to be sure, then it needs to be treated or managed. If you want to rid your tank of it and ever want to have inverts then you can not use copper. Without using copper you do a fallow tank (no fish) for 75 days. This should work but there is always a slim chance it will not. To rid the fishes of ich (if one has it, they are all carriers but may not show damage) You can use copper in a QT tank or if the fish is not too infected you can do the TTM method. If you want to manage it in a tank then you will need to run a UV . Run as much water thru it as you can at the proper flow rate. This will help control the numbers so your fish will not be overwhelmed by a lot of it in the water. Hopefully they can be kept healthy enough to fight it off on their own. This will require a stable clean tank as well as great food for the fish. By great food I mean live nutritious stuff like what the fish eat in the wild. If its a algae eater then you will need live macro algae such as (tang heaven). Live white and or black worms as well as live chopped clams or mussels for the meat eaters. I have heard of people adding additives to the frozen cubes and pellets but It was not sucessfull for me. Im not an expert on marine ich but have a lot of experience with fresh water fish and ich. And for more info about understanding ich http://atj.net.au/marineaquaria/marineich.html
