mine will maintain itself fine but has to be tended to. I just don't have the drive to do the up keep. More of a job than a hobby.

Austin home brew and its cheap for the quantity u get.

Well im seriously thinking of shutting my tank down, it seems the love is gone. To me it feels like a burden to do a water change, change media in CA reactor, change carbo-GFO, clean skimmer, it just never ends. Im gonna ponder the situation and in the next few days it may be done. Things will have to go in order, Corals (most on rock)- then rocks will have to be removed- then fish-then equipment. I cant catch the fish with the rock work I have, there is to many places to hide and once they see me catch one they WILL NOT want anything to do with getting caught. Just tired and the passion has been leaving for the last 6-8 months.

Looks like everything worked out, sorry for not coming to help with the plumbing. Its hard for me to find time on the weekends to sleep with deer season, kids, the yard etc. Hope your not mad. Did u remove the braces to install the sump?

I need some in my tank u think they will order more?

could try turning the CaRX off at night but then there would be a flux in KH. I think that I will recalibrate my 2 PH probes and go from there, I guess I don't understand how you run a bucket of soda lime inline with my skimmer, its in the sump and how would u keep it from sucking lime into the air intake? Maybe I shld GOOGLE it, isn't that what im supposed to do...LOL

so I run a reverse lighting schedule, fuge light on a night. I also run skimmer 24/7, Carbon and GFO 24/7, I use aragonite in my CA reactor and in the fuge and tank. I have a big wavebox that makes about a 1.5" wave 24/7, and 2x6105 set at 75% power 24/7. Water changes 30Gs every 2 wks. My return is a waterfall style out the back of the tank. The PH has always dropped like this in my new tank. I think that if I can get my PH in check it would solve a lot of my green cyano looking algae problems. I may have to call one of you guys about the Lime, not sure how it works.

Offroaddodge, any potential reason the pearlberry was declining? Any recent changes to your system or maintenance routine?
well, I turned the skimmer off for about 2wks but don't think that had anything to do with it. During the tank move it took a pretty big hit and the bottom of the colony had died, the top 1/2 came back but the bottom part that was dead started getting a lot of algae growth on it. I think it just choked it out. I gave it 2wks before I finally threw in the towel, I was worried that all the death from the size of the colony may affect other corals in the tank, and when it started to STN from the base on one piece then a lot more I gave in. I didn't wanna chance killing other corals in the tank. Also if anyone knows of a way to keep my PH up when the lights are out chime in, When the tank is lit the PH gets to around 8.2, at night it goes down to 7.53.

well I threw out my Pearlberry colony today, for the past month or more I have watched it decline. Starting with the tips looking burned then algaea growing from them, to this week a slow STN from the base of the coral. I have had this colony since I started my 1st tank (over 8+ years). It has been threw a lot and I had hope for it but to no avail. It had lost a lot of color and just didn't look healthy. Upon removing it today once I pulled it from the water it had that ACRO death smell. Oh well, now I have a spot to put more corals. I recently received a piece of RED DRAGON and it is taking off very nicely.

u can if you want always build your own tank, it makes you feel really special when its done and you can make it however you want to. That's what I did almost 3 years ago builing my 60x30x27 200g external overflow. Knowing what I do now I might have made the overflow a little deeper but all in all it works just fine and I built the tank for just under $1k. Big saving in the grand scheme of things. The 1st tank I owned was a 120G from Glasscages and it was a great tank, the seams were fine to me. once you get grave/sand in the bottom you don't really notice them. And they are built like a tank with euro bracing in the bottom and top. They are however heavy, but that goes away once set on the stand in the place where you want the tank. Best of luck, and maybe I opened the door to a new tank build...

for me it would be a fun project. It would be easy to get to the 18" mark with little work, but one side of the wall will have to be new. Im gonna stay outta this one for now. I wish I had a construction business and you had plenty of money. I would run a sump, all the returns on one side and drains on the other (cross flow) 2 power heads (left/right), use the returns with lockline to promote flow to dead zones. Very easy. If you didn't do this yourself and you contracted it out I bet it would be over $5k close to $7k

1st measure how thick your wall is, the wall in the pic looks to have been built a little wider than a normal wall so as to be able to have a decent sized tank installed. It would be a very easy DIY if you have a little knowledge of framing, building, wiring etc.

BRS...they are the 14" mesh bags, not cloth. They clean alot easier and filter just as good.

sign of someone who stands behind there work in a society of PPL that don't care about there reputation. Sign of a great American who works hard to keep his name and product upstanding.

nice to have u on board, if u really wanted to get into the tank build you could order the glass from Binswanger and build your own like me, its fun and not to difficult.

going from my 120G inwall to this new 200G and not having enough beneficial bacteria built up in the water in the new tank is the only thing I can think of. nothing was different other than that.
