  1. Thanks guys! My wife loves it, and that was part of the strategy. "Honestly, dear, it's furniture, not really a hobby ..."

Ty, you need to take some pointers from Jim.

Jim only thinks he is fooling his wife.....

Got me fooled though. It looks great.

  2. Looks pretty exciting!

Thanks Seth. It is exciting like watching a car race and wondering if someone is going to crash. :snack: I think I have a good plan and keep parameters where they need to be during the transition phase. We will see.

I really need to find some time to come look at your setup because your build is so tidy and I can obviously use some pointers.

Looks like you have a pretty good start to me :)

Your welcome to come whenever you like.

  3. Who's going to the Lone Star Lemans race next weekend? I'm gonna go out there on Saturday. I've freed up some of my expendable income since I've filled my tanks with stuff here at the house. Can't buy more expensive things if I don't have room for them :).

    Smells like a challenge...... :)

  4. And all these reasons is why I don't run ozone. I get a wild hair every so often and start putting together the system and the driers and the carbon canisters and the reactors and I always fail to pull the trigger. I run ORP probes on all my systems and I can tell you they are fickle at best. Especially when you feed vita chem and Selcon and occasionally dose lugols and dose acro power. They all cause my ORP to drop a couple hundred points in an instant and it takes 4ish hours for the probes to get back in whack.

I believe it works but after the potential dangers and the cost of the system to do it right I always shy away.

  5. Oh man. the frag tanks growing up fast. I remember when it was just a gleam in its fathers eye! You'll be breaking racks to make frags in no time.

My photo taking skills is about a 4. Didn't finish taking pictures before the halides turned off but I got close. Sorry I'll work on the picture taking eventually :)

Looks more like a strong 6 to me... It's pretty hard to take them in shallow tanks, with the overhead glare from the lights...my plague.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I hope I don't have to break too many frag racks. Those are all custom made zen reef frag racks with frag lock. They weren't exactly cheap.

Thank for all the kind words guys.

  6. That's how I frag my SPS... stick a broom in my tank and swish it around. Juiceman taught me that little trick like years ago.

He was just trying to help you out since he knows it's hard for you to reach.... :)
Is it not impressive to have 3 year old thriving SPS system without ever touching the bottom of the tank once? [emoji12] I'm about 3-4" too short on the wingspan for that task.

I didn't say it wasn't impressive :). It is very impressive.

Your chopstick skills are strong. :)

  7. Well I guess my reading comprehension is in the dumps lol.

Same method just remove Doser and put in bobcats patented fall from heaven reef syringe Kung fu. Or maybe try another product. I have been happy with the product listed above it does both alk/ca at the same time. Then I use Red Sea mg powder for mg adjustments.

  8. Sorry I'm late to the party work has been kicking my butt.

On the QT subject. No sand and no LR. It can absorb meds and throw the dosages off which will make the meds less or not effective and the parasites can also build up a resistance making them harder to kill. I have gotten where I don't much run PVC 90's much either the fish don't use them much for me and they are a pain to clean.

    On the alk notes.

With a ca count at 600 you are probably having some percipitation as the alk and ca bind up. I would do a 20% water change to reset and monitor daily to figure out usage. I would wait to see a 7-10 ppm drop before you start to maintain. You will want to dial your Doser in slowly. You need to stop when your alk starts to be steady. I would recommend daily hand dosing up to your desired level with tropic Marin bio calcium. I have been very happy with this product and am currently using it while dialing in my CaRx.

    Example

    Start at 145ppm

Test daily until you see the alk start to drop.

At 139-135 start the Doser but hand dose back up to 145.

Next day if your alk is still dropping increase the Doser and hand dose back up to 145.

Repeat process until your alk tests the same every day.

Test at the same time everyday ideally before your Doser goes off.

This bears repeating. Test at the same time everyday. Alk will fluctuate through out the day. Pick a time and stick with it. It removes the most variables.

Only set your Doser for two times a day initially.

When you are burning 1 dkh a day change it to 4 times a day instead of 2 but remember to adjust you daily dosage amount / 4 times a day instead of two.

I keep my ca at 450 and my mg at 1350

The numbers aren't so important as the ideal 1:3 ratio

Dial your ca Doser in with the same method as the alk Doser but the alk first then the Ca after the alk is steady. Don't worry about hand dosing up ca it's not very critical on the number.

  9. What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks like a new drill. Did you make a mini Viking funeral pyre and light the old one on fire and push it out into the middle of the pool. Or did the Smithsonian take it as a fine example as the very first battery operated drill ever produced. :)

You're confused. That drill in the picture is at least a year old, and you just failed to notice it when you brought your cadillac cordless with all the bells and whistles drill over to my place. I actually had mine out and ready to go and you laughed at it cause it did not have a headlight and GPS laser guided positioning for the bit with computer controlled gyros to keep it steady. My other drill is 30 years old. They did not sell cordless at that time as far as I recall. I keep it because its awesome.

    That is potentially true.... :)
