CHOKE GAG tank COUGH COUGH quote. Got a few quotes on my tank. I guess the tank builders are all millionaires. 20K, Ouch. Looks like I'm going to be building the tank myself. 6 sheets of 1" thick acrylic @ 600.00 a sheet is 3600.00 plus a few CNC cuts, will not add up to 20K. This is gonna be fun.
I did drill the holes and tap them for the probe holder. I am a hack. "Un-Skilled" Jack of all trades and master of none. Anyone know if there is a place in Austin that sells SCIGRIP #40? I called Regal and Austin but they did'nt have it or know who would. Online I guess? I want to use it for the sump instead of #4 to get some practice before I tackle the tank.
Yeah its not cheap to get a new tank. As dimensions get more extreme, the cost is exponential. Best of luck building it yourself, you are much more adventurous than I in that regard!

Looking good! Back up to the Juiceman standard we are all so used to! Love the color.

Well it's been a long few weeks! A weekend trip to a lake house, and then 6 days traveling for work. I have put many hours into the tank but progress has been slow until this weekend. I finally got the tank mostly cycled and was able to move the fish over and aquascape!
big thanks to @Gig 'em @ NDstructible For helping me design and execute the aquascape. He is a pro. It turned out really awesome and this time I was finally able to use a rock the way I wanted to when it has caused me such troubles over the years! Nothing like using a whole tube of epoxy to make my dream come true ?.
I was also able to get the lights hung since the fish and coral (singular) were moved over. Got the sump and components all tuned up and got the thing humming. Literally humming, that's the only noise this bad boy makes!!! The bean animal is amazing, so glad I went with the Shadow overflow, thank you @Synergy reef for making such a great product.
Eveything seems to be doing well except my massive amount of nems are trying to locate the light source . I will be buying a pro membership tomorrow and will begin selling off some of my nems and the old tank etc so keep an eye out.
Here are the update pics!! More to come as things settle in and I stock the fish a bit more. In a few weeks (2 months or so) I will be ready for new frags!!
Also, don't tell my wife. I ordered another Maxspect after today, couldn't resist the 20% off from @BulkReefSupply!

Only has about 80 galllons in there right now. Left room for rock and water from the trough.
-
Sand is in. Salt is mixing. Temp is increasing... slowly.
Picked up up a stainless steel rod to put my two Maxspect Razors together. Going to figure out a mounting solution tomorrow during work and pick up the material at lunch. Hoping to start to move rock over tomorrow night. Have to get the parameters right first.

magnetic float, strip of abs sheetrock corner molding (mount the float to), 24v power brick, sprinkler valve.... $15 for peace of mind.
BAM! Sounds like a plan to me
Is there a build thread for that?

Holy cow, I am in love with my new flow restrictor on the RO unit... This thing hauls ***!
Its going so quickly that I cant leave it going overnight or it will most likely be overflowing by the time I get up for work!

Looking good bud! Can't wait to see this tank full and running, it's going to be so clean and quiet. I might just come over to bask in the silence of it all
Haha I hope so!! If its gurgling I will yell at you for a poor plumbing design! lol
-
Glued the rest of the plumbing last night. My least favorite part of plumbing is that it always seems to change slightly when you glue.. My return ended up being so off that I had to put egg crate under the return pump because the plumbing was lifting it off the bottom of my sump!
All glued up though so I am happy. Tonight I will fill er up!!

Great suggestions @Isaac, though I did end up ending with an elbow because I didn't have an extra T. Worst case I cut the corner out rebuild it with a T down the road. For now I have 3 valves for reactors. Im just glad to be going to the next step!
Sand will be going in next and filling up. I have probably 40 lbs of sand that I just need to rinse heavily. Ill buy some live sand on Thursday and then let the tank run with sand and a few rocks through the weekend.
-
Seriously, amazing collection. Let me know when you start sellin
-
Oh happy day!!!
-
Got the drains all glued in, the are uniformed almost all the way through, but at the end they were slightly off... 2 of 3 look perfect. Last one is a little wonky but its fine.
Returns will be glued tonight, along with the BEAN animal setup. I should be able to start filling the tank tomorrow! Sand will go in as well along with some of the live rock. Let that cycle through the weekend and then acclimate and move over next week.
I'll post some more pictures tonight as well.

Thanks! I cannot wait to start filling it up!

Last thing... gate valve will be cut in as soon as I decide what my main drain will be. Probably far left.
-
Also, I have to say I am pretty proud of myself. Everything came out super level and squared off. Not easy, and I had to make several additional tiny cuts to make it all work. Glad it's time for bed and I am finished! Lol
-
And voila!!!
Tomorrow I'll grab the pieces to make the bean and get the final approval from @Gig 'em @ NDstructible on the build. Then it's time for gluing!! Let that dry a day, then water test. Then we are off to the races!!!
I have Ts for 3 reactors, I will valve those off for now and add reactors in a few months after my wallet recoups ?
