  3. wow, gorgeous tank! I've got plenty of macro growing in my tank, I'll pull some of it for you and bring it to the meeting, just remind me.... I'm very forgetful >.< lol Ut-oh... Isn't is bad luck to name you're fish?! (j/k) ^_~ <edited to add question I forgot to ask... told you! lol> Is that Kryptonite Candycane? If so thats one of my favorites! -Kat
  4. Seahorses could be an option for you, but if you go salt in a basic ten gallon be aware of evaporation. One inch on a 100 gallon tank isn't as bad has one inch on a 10. Adding a top since you aren't going to try to grow corals could help with that. I know it sounds like a sales pitch, but bigger is better with salt. I'm not saying you couldn't, but you want to do the research before you leap. -Kat
  5. This is me wishing I had that sort of cash.... *sigh* -Kat
  6. So the weirdest thing happened to us yesterday. I'm gonna called it "Freaky Friday" and blame it on Friday the 13th.... all but one of our regulars came in the store... I don't think thats ever happened since I started working here.... weird. -Kat

  17. That sounds, or looks rather, like a pretty well rounded collection of snails. Phosphate is one of the many minerals you'll get to know when keeping a reef tank. I could go into a long and confusing description of it, but all you really need to know is that phosphates feed algae. The good news is its an easy problem to fix. All you have to do is add some phosbuster in a media bag to your filter or sump. The other thing you'll need to do is test your source water. This is sort of contraversal since you get your water through a store, and I'm not saying anything bad about any store! Its not unheard of for RO systems, although one of your best bets, to have issues with the constant flux we get here locally from our tap. Certain areas are better than others about this. The other thing I'm going to recommend is if at all possible try to avoid doing a water change after a heavy rain. A lot of ppl have come to the store and mentioned noticing more Phosphates after it rains. Here is a good source if you'd like to know more... phosphates -Kat
  18. I thought it would be nice to have a place to get to know people and there opinions without the constraints of a thread topic, so go on talk about anything you like. --- I found this really cool rechargeable battery with stumbling the interwebs.... check it out! http://www.usbcell.com/ -Kat
  19. wow he is a beauty! You could try an algae clip on either side of the tank, maybe he'll be more comfortable if there is a smaller group to contend with. Kudos to you for sticking with a plan and not giving into a random mystery fish you just had to have! You should be a lot happier with a well planned tank. -Kat
  20. lol I have a bunch of those tiny green ones that showed up in my live rock, they multiply quickly! But are easy enough to control if they get out of hand... I really like mine -Kat
  21. yep, we have two right now. -Kat

Donkey is right. Don't worry about your light, you have plenty enough for zoos, they really aren't very demanding in that way. Just let it be, and it'll come around. ...Also, it could just not want to open up for a bit, just because its closed doesn't mean anything is wrong, you'll only want to worry if it stays closed for longer than a few days. especially since all of your others are doing fine. -Kat
  23. Clams really take there time getting used to a new tank, sometimes it can take a few weeks for them to fully adjust. Try putting a half shell or flat piece of rock on the bottom of your tank (under the sand), then place your clam, buried slightly, in the sand on top of that. That way when it does get comfortable it'll put its foot down on the half shell instead of the bottom glass or your rock work, and you can move it around safely. You really don't want to move it around much though, ESPECIALLY if its attached itself to something you can't move because you might damage its foot, and if you do that you could seriously harm the clam (just like an Anemone). -Kat
  24. Most likely its just the natural progression of your tank, but if you're really worried about it I'd check the phosphate levels first, there seems to be a lot of it in Austin tap water. Don't forget if you're using the cheap phosphate kit from API "0" is really closer to 0.5 and it only has to be at 0.2 to start affecting your tank. Headless Donkey is right about adding to your cleaning crew. I'd get a small assortment of snails (different breeds do well at different temperatures and in different tanks, so you'll want to test them all out and see which ones work best for you) and maybe a Conch. Once they get bigger they won't do much for your glass and rocks, but the do a bang up job on the sand bed, and really seem to go after red slime. -Kat
