  3. so i finally got home. wow i need to learn to tell girls no and not volunteer to stay and work an extra 4 days at school than need be. but i made it. packed up the tanks and animals and went. of course it did not go easy. one of the ponies fell out into the sump and was wigglin around on dry rocks for 15 min. but after she coughed up some bubbles today she seems just fine. im letting the tank cycle for a day or so to let aything disturbed settle etc. so now its watch some lost while i wait for the tank to cycle. plus any chores mother comes up with. dont tell her that... alright!! christmas time. merry christmas yall.

  7. i get the concept of live rock. i use it. what i dont understand is sthe marketing,, or the names whicehever you call it. i see figi rock. togo rock, etc. what is the differences between the different "live rocks" is it all basically the same or some have diffences that make it worthy to give it different names or is it just people who want to specify where they got it from so it sounds cooler?

  10. heh e. sorry that sounds funny to me. they are nice as long as no one comes near em. sorry the way that was worded it seemed silly.
  11. plenty to update. ill finish from the last blog. so thanksgiving went well. they ponies did alright in the bucket. but that was a pain in the butt. i didnt have any sort of filter and just a heater. i forgot the bubbler down here at school. but they did alright i shook up the bucket twice a day. and feed them once every 2 days. they survived just fine. i dont think they liked it but they did alright. when i got back home however all the xenia had died. i dont know what the deal is. ever since i moved up to a thirty gal tank i cant for the life of me keep the xenia alive. in the ten gal i had no problem. i dont have a clue. not a clue at all. so between thanksgiving and now nothing happens. now i have the BIG MOVE! i have to leave the dorm for 3 weeks. so now the tanks ponies everything goes! so now i have a big plan. get mother's dorango. take all 60 gal and transfer into 5 gal buckets. remember to keep the pepermint shrimp seperate for joe. so load all htat, the tanks, my speaker system, projection system, clothes, etc. that should be a load of fun. then go home and then reset up the tanks. let it recycle for a week. then have it set up till the third. then i move back to campus. but i cant take them yet because ill have a roomate. so i may have to go 3 weeks without my babies. oh man this is so not cool. the campus is empty as of wed but i have to stay here till fri. and i have to be back on campus on the fouth when school starts on the 17th or somthing close to that. its amazing how no one will tell you stuff about a job untill after you have it. man what a week eh? anyone else had a week that just wont end? I did pass chemistry 2! 76! ho rah only took two tries! that was good. but then i got rejected by a crush, boo... but im goin home soon! oh boy i cant wait for real food. im here working the desk watching lost eating a can of mixed fruit... alright, i will try to post after i get home. these ponies are near military brats being moved around so much.

    Tiny medussa

technically its a polyp. medusa is the free floating part. all tha same thing.but wow if that is it then soon it will start asexually reproducing medusa! so you may soon have many little jellies. here is a pic of a simple life cycle. the polyp asexually reporoduces the free floating medusa. are you going to try to keep them if they do start to budd?
  13. if you need something for just a short time you might try just picking up something from petsmart that will "work". you can aalways return it saturday when you have time to find something that will correctly fiit the bill?
  14. mabye thats why im so polar to yall. i dont think they are an eyesore.
  15. has anyone ever had them reproduce that much? and the toxin your talking about an ammonia spike with rotting bodies?
  16. oh my. i dont use my fuge for pod production. i use it because it adds water to the system. it is open. my tanks are over under. so both are open to the view of the room. but it is basically an empty 30 gal tank.
  17. i have a 30 gal fuge. its not what you were looking for. but i wouldl ove to give him a home. he would be on his own. there is quite a bit of rockwork and some cheato. i would glady put in some fake anenome stuff. (no not the plastic ones from petsmart that will shred) but what i find. no i dont have an anenome.
  18. there is nothing wrong with flat worms. they produce no toxins, poisions and do not hurt harm or mess with any of your livestock. they are little worms with a pharanyx on thier belly and suck up detritus etc. the only way to get rid of them is to find something that will eat them. but there is nothing wron with them. they are just little scavangers that will find waste in the tank. you just have some bio-diversity.
  19. sounds like some sort of amphipod or copepod. small crustaceans. some can be redish. if you see one again grab a magnifing glass. it will look like an alien version of a pillbug.
  20. ive had success with stuffing it with sponges etc. but mine is a HOB cheap nasty prizm. it works but man what a pain.
  21. sorry what? tank of the quarter? top of the quilt?
  22. check the garage sales. ive found all my strip lights for a dollar or 2. then get better bulbs from the local stores. i have 3 strip lights i used on my ten gal. one has a new actinic light, one has 2 new 50\50 lights, the last one is just an old school bulb that came with it. i have em now on my 30 gal tank. total i think they are around 60 watts or so. i used all three on my ten. I really dont now lights well but the three lights together worked well for the softies i had. oddly now that i have a bigger tank the xenia just does not survive... anyway if you dont find anything pm me.
  23. wait so you fixed it? or was it not a problem and go away?
  24. open the system. hmm. ok. hook it all up so water "could" be pumped up and drained down. let it equalize. so let anything drain from the top that will drain down to sump. this will show how much water drains from the top tank. now the top tank will be a few inches lower and the sump will be partially filled. now fill up the sump to the point where you feel it is filled. then turn on the filters. now the tank (if using overflow stuff) will fill to the right level and the sump will become a a little less. BUT do not fill the sump back up. when you turn off the filters again the water will contiue to drain from the top tank. if you fill up the sump that difference is going over the side!! Have fun!
  25. http://mars.reefkeepers.net/USHomePage/USA...atorSoufre.html anyone tried anything like this? it looks like a really cool idea. diy looks like fun.
