  1. HOB is dead but either way thanks to everyone who called and texted me. The situation is in hand and I appreciate all the comments. I will be back! LOL

  2. It's not a drilied tank it had a hang on back filter that I used as a quarantine tank. Right now everything is a disaster I just don't like the idea of the fish dying because of the situation.

  3. Sorry the post wasn't clear I got a 25 that everything is in temporarily but I have no money to get a pump and everything for it. So the tank and heater and whatever else I have laying around is available for free to pickup to save the fish.

  4. My Innovation marine tank broke this afternoon. I have fish and rock temporarily in a 25g I had laying around but I have no pumps or anything to keep them alive! If anyone wants to come pick them up for free I have a cleaner shrimp and a citron clown goby! Heater and everything else is welcome to anyone who will come pick up the tank and fish tonight or first thing in the morning.

  5. HI Planeden sorry I am stepping in the middle here but I haven't ready all of this thread but it is a very interesting discussion. But about 4 pages in the thought of a skimmer or non-skimmer came up. I just wanted to throw this out, have you looked at the idea of a algae scrubber yet? When I had my 85 up I came across this interesting tidbit and after doing some research swapped out my skimmer for a algae scrubber and never had to dose GFO again. It aerated my water just like the skimmer and kept all of my nitrates and phosphates in check. In fact the only downside I had is that so little algae was growing in my display that I had some die off from cuc because they were no longer getting enough algae to eat. This was really slow but over the course of a few months at least 10 snails and 5 hermits died.

Anyway if you are interested in looking at it here is a link to the type of scrubber I built and some great forums for more information on them.

So the first time I set this tank up I really wasn't happy with the aquascaping so I really wanted to take my time on it this go round. I started by cutting a piece of acrylic the same size roughly as the bottom of the tank. I then ordered about 15lbs of tongan dry rock from BRS, (I am really happy with this rock BTW BRS is awesome!), I then took some scrap pieces of acrylic and cut flat bottoms on the rock once I figured out how I wanted the rock to sit and epoxied the rock to these tiny scrap pieces. Once the epoxy was set, I used weldon on 16 to glue the rock to my base piece of acrylic. All in all I am very happy with the way it turned out!

Ok these 2 pics were my mock up I found a odyssea 150w MH pendant, with 2 t5 atinics and 2 blue moonlight LEDs. Reviews on this pendant were mixed but I am happy with it so far. I am taking it as a given that I will have to replace the ballast on it within the next year or 2 but we will see.

Also in the drawer of my stand is my ATO chamber and pump. I did a DIY version that I actually got most of the good info from here on this thread.

Here is the current state of the tank. Filled with water, salinity 1.024 and kicked off cycle with a piece of frozen shrimp I had left in the freezer.

  7. Hey guys! I haven't been on in awhile and sold my big tank because it was to much of a hassle in my apartment. However I just can't stay out! Ever since I sold my 85 I have been missing it horribly lol! So I am starting again with the tank that got me into this hobby. I had this tank up for about a year and had great success with a few goby's and some zoas and mushrooms. So I have some plans ongoing and hoping to start setting this up this weekend.

But... as always I have a question. I am buying some dry tongan live rock from BRS, my question is what is the best way to get corraline started on this rock once I get the tank set up and cycled? I have also recently seen tanks with many different colors of corraline algae in the tank. I know if I just scrape some off of a existing rock into the tank I will start spreading the spores but I really want some greens in there to! Anyone know a good place to maybe buy some prepackaged spores of different colors? Anyone got some little corraline rocks they wouldn't mind sharing with me for a reasonable price?

Thanks for looking and I will post more of my thoughts on what I am planning for this tank over the next few days!

  8. LOL everyone pming about hardware I will get back to you. This was done fast yesterday and not very well thought out and I will be revising post with proper prices and pics. Again lol sorry I put it up then rushed off to work, then had to work most of today LOL

  9. I have a small tiny aqueon powerhead a tunze nano wavebox and tunze return pump and a aqualifter for the ATO. Want to make sure I get all my livestock sold then I will break it all down and list it out :) Hopefully this weekend or first of next week lol
