  1. Looks like Jedi mind trick, It's a fairly cut fresh frag. Bright green base with burgundy polyps. Fairly large polyps too compared to my other montipora. Ideas?
  2. Never understood why birds nests are labeled as easy sps. I've not ever killed any but they're the slowest growing easiest to bleach spa I've tried to this point. I'm with the others. Sounds like a water parameter fluctuated rapidly and the birdsnest was the first to notify you.

    Good news!!!

That's my backup plan if things go south. Unfortunately I don't have a tiny fan to use as I've heard those work every bit as good as a chiller. House is only 2 years old. Still under warranty. Turned off the unit at bedtime and sweated through the night. I run warm so 80 degrees is uncomfortable for me. All the lines on the outdoor unit were frozen over and thawed when I woke. It works this morning so the house is cool, but freezing up implies there is a problem somewhere and it'll happen again. Repair man is supposed to be out today. Told them it has to be before 2 because I gotta go to work. They assured me it would be. Still ain't here. Thank God for my in laws. They came over and are gonna wait on them and make sure it's fixed. What a hassle. Glad it happened now and not back in July. Sorry mods. This probably should have been in the off topic section

    Good news!!!

Yay!!!! My air conditioner just went out! Woohoo! Not. At least it's still under warranty and it's only like 78 degrees outside. Hope it doesn't spell trouble for the tank
  5. Could this be used to control a dosing pump for kalkwasser?
  6. Another funny thing too. These are the end colors from right to left old, new-good, new-bad. It's funny that with three of the same brand test you get three shades of blue as the end color. All three reagent Bs had a different look and texture as well. The old one being someone grainy like gunpowder, and the new ones both being powdery like confectioners sugar. Good thing were looking for a pink-blue flash transition , and not a varying shade of blue.
  7. Test results are in... Just for formality sake, taken from my 55 gallon mixed sps tank, lights still out. Salinity 1.026 Temperature 79 degrees Alkalinity 7.5 dKH Magnesium 1450 ppm IORC salt 1 gallon saturated kalkwasser administered daily Calcium tests Old kit (bought last November): 450 ppm New kit (with replacement reagent B): 450 ppm New kit (with recalled reagent B): 525 ppm Well...looks like my old kit is still working fine as the color flash happened right at 0.9 mL titrant used on both kits. The bad reagent B works exactly as advertised. According to Red Sea the reagent B should be trading 75 ppm higher than it should and according to my test this morning that is a spot on claim. Anyhow just thought I'd share
  8. http://www.redseafish.com/calcium-B Just the dry powder. These are all the recalled ones. About to run some tests now
  9. Anyone else order a new reagent "b" for their Red Sea pro calcium testers? Mine came in today. Odd...it's the same lot number as the recalled ones, but a different expiration date. I still have the bad one as well. Gonna test my calcium with my old reagents, recalled one, and the new one and ill post results tomorrow. Tested a sample of someone else's tank water today with my old Red Sea pro calcium kit and an API tester and the results were about 200-250 ppm off. That's a pretty significant margin.
  10. Yeah unless it's a tiny amount I like to cure it first. In my year and a half old 55 gallon I've swapped/added rock in the amount of 20-30 pounds on two separate occasions. I've bleached and acid dipped it both times and then cycled it for 8 weeks following that before adding it to my tank an have had zero mini cycle issues, deaths, or algae increases.
  11. Started with one teaspoon per gallon of RODI topoff water. Mixed it in a separate container, let it settle for one day, then siphon off the clear water within an inch or so from the bottom. Leftover sediment won't dissolve typically and kalk is cheap enough you don't wanna risk getting any extra contaminants in the tank. I just dump off the stuff at the bottom after each mixing. You will notice a film/crust at the kalk water surface. That's just it reacting with co2 in the air naturally. It's harmless and can be ignored One teaspoon per gallon was perfect for me and I tested daily to monitor fluctuations. After a few weeks doing that I reduced it to weekly testings. As temperature, humidity, and stony coral load vary, so will the effectiveness of your mixture. I'm now at full strength and have a moderate stony coral load. Pros Dirt cheap Super easy to use With a slow adding ATO, it'll keep parameters rock solid and super stable Adds calcium and alk at the perfect ratio Requires very little time, maintenance, and attention Cons Dosing strength in ATO will vary in effectiveness due to evaporation changes It's messy!!! Lines that run kalk need to be cleaned with vinegar monthly to prevent them from caking up with calcium. I already broke one aqualifter by not cleaning it frequently enough. Tends to deplete magnesium faster than other dosing methods. Limited in effectiveness. Eventually fully saturated kalk at a maximum safe drip rate will not be adequate to keep up with heavy sps loads and other methods will need to be added. In my 55 gallon I fully expect to have to add a 2-part dosing system once my acro colonies reach grapefruit size (they're all goofball sized now). I'm at full saturation kalk and its just barely keeping up. Once every month or so I have to manually dose some alk to bring it up to 8.
  12. For the first couple seasons I was able to recognize the purpose of the show is not to educate but to entertain. They have faith in their products but I've heard too many "after the fact" stories about their tanks crashing and all livestock dying shortly after their departure. That is probably more a result of improper fish keeping from the new owners but its still upsetting to consider the amount of life lost as a result of the tank setups. But...that's business I suppose. I stopped watching because I lost interest. There's only so many times I can see them fill a tank with epoxy coated plastic toys. That's really what did it for me. Their tanks they install are lame. The acrylic shells are cool, their plumbing looks like it is well done, but the finished product always looks like a McDonald's playhouse under water with expensive fish. Kinda gets old. Plus the acting is shameful
  13. If you have a pair of polarized or otherwise tan colored sunglasses that can usually help. Sometimes if my phone just can't get a shot because of the blue ill put sunglasses over the camera lens and that makes it more of a neutral white color. Kind of over compensates on the non blue look but it at least makes stuff look somewhat natural and recognizable By brown sunglasses I mean the shade the lens casts. It only works for me on one pair of sunglasses I own but it works remarkably. Some sunglasses give everything kind of a blue look or a yellow look. Those are no good. Won't help
  14. Absolutely. What days will you be here and what times will you be available. I'd be down to play a round. We have 5-6 9 hole courses here and one 18 hole course. Typically ill just play the 9 hole course twice. But I also throw 3-4 discs per round. I don't play competitively, just practice a lot. If I'm just dropping by on the way home from work I sometimes throw just 9 at a course that is about 1/4 mile from my house
  15. Very helpful map and very funny. Disc golf is a great game, sir. Its like regular golf only for us po' folks. Pass along my thanks.
  16. Awesome info! I appreciate it. Will likely try to get to town early to take care of any group buy stuff I need to and hit a course up before moving begins. Good warm up in the heat of the day right? I've played the wells branch course before. Pretty easy stuff but I'm not looking for anything championship caliber. 9 holes is good for that day. My only issue with playing a course in a new city is that if you're alone, or with others that haven't played, it's a dad gum mystery as to where the next tee box usually is. Hell, it can be a mystery as to where the basket is
  17. Probably not too far south I don't think. North to middle I'd say
  18. Ill be in town next weekend to help my sister move and for a band rehearsal. Hoping I can squeeze in a good short game of disc golf when I'm in the area. Any disc golfers in the club recommend some courses or be interested in joining?

    ID please

Man I've got a ton of those. Haven't really noticed excessive irritation. I've read accounts of them being so invasive they clog plumbing almost completely shut and kill large coral colonies. Others say they'll come and go in small numbers. My experience has been the latter. If the coral is easily removable, ill take it out and pull the vermatid off with some tweezers. Otherwise, while they're not plague proportions, they are too numerous to kill one at a time. They're a filter feeder. The more they have to feed on, the more numerous they'll be

    Ooops!!!

Guilty as well. I try to wait for the straight stretches of road on the highways. It's hard to post and turn going 85. Jklol...or am i

    Ooops!!!

Lol I'd be curious to know how many of us are guilty or ARC'ing and driving
  22. Are the cream sickle color morphs easy to find? I haven't really noticed any but then again I haven't looked. I'd really like to hunt down some of those or some reds. I have read various opinions on which color morphs had better success in full marine. Is that of any merit or since they're all the same species does it matter much beyond taste?
  23. I really like those colors. In hindsight id much rather have a colorful pair of mollies in my tank, but my source only had dalmations. How long do you take to acclimate them from freshwater to full reef salinity? Part of the reason I haven't gone to petco to get any is I don't want to muck up the acclimation process. I may look for some yellow or reds to try in a month or two
