  1. I stared at my tank forever while it was filling up. It was the slowest process ever!

And your tank is even bigger!

LOL it's going faster than I thought... but still taking a lot of time...

Didn't think I'd be ready so fast to pick up my rock from subsea, will be getting some this weekend... might even be too full by this weekend. The 150 gpd RODI is kicking *** smile.png

Might just fill up to near overflow before getting the rock and letting the rock overflow water into the sump...

  2. Yes, they are slightly quieter with slime on them. Mine (WP40s/25s) never really bothered me to begin with though; as I have a canopy on my tank and it was full of water, rock and coral when I installed mine. I wonder if there is a sound difference between acrylic and glass tanks.... That will be interesting to see.

Yeah that would be interesting to know. The tank is 1" acrylic, and I can't feel any vibration on the acrylic when the pumps are on.

I don't remember the pumps being so loud when the tank was full, we'll see... just takes forever to fill. Even adding 50 to 100 gallons a day >:0

  3. Mine seemed to quiet down once they were put into practice for a bit. Also, at first I was running them full blast but that was not really needed. With the various modes I run now and at different intensities, I rarely ever hear it unless it's in cleanout mode, in which both pumps blast on full for 30 seconds and alternate after that.

    Sounds good Ty.

Yeah just have mine at full blast on W1 right now. Was planning to run full blast on Else though when the tank is running.

  4. Thanks Woods. Did you notice any difference with the WP40s getting a slime coat on them?

Not planning on using a canopy, so that won't help. Going to add another 50 gallons tonight and move the placement of the WP60s higher and more to the center as well.

  5. They will break in some but vortech's are noisy pumps IMO. The MP60's are still much better than the MP40, which have some serious design flaws compared to the 10's or 60's. I think ecotech recommends placing them as high as possible without sucking air also.

I had to stop using vortechs because of the noise. Sanity has been restored since switching the jebao WP40's. You would obviously need multiple WP60's on a tank like this if you ever decide to switch in the future.

    Those are Jebao WP60s wink.png

I have 4 WP40s as well, but they aren't in the tank there... just the WP60s...

  6. (Changed my display name btw...)

    Did a lot this weekend...

Got the RODI installed and it's feeding into the 50 gallon vertical storage container. There was a pinhole leak on the plug at the bottom of the container. So I just siliconed it into place (don't plan on changing it).

Installed a gutter into my sump for ATO water, so it'll be going into the sump at a higher level than the water level in my storage container. Will use it to feed both new saltwater and ATO water.

Also installed a HD cam on one of the side walls to look down the tank.

Put some stronger DC pumps in place of my Quiet One 6000 Pros.

All that's left now is to move the tank back into place and re-level it.

Going to wait until tomorrow to start making RODI again, to give the silicone 48 hours to cure.

Should be putting in eggcrate and saltwater this week smile.png

  7. LOL changed mine here and on RC (just made a new account >:0)

Basically had used Offshore on watch forums back in the day. From Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore series of watches. Watches have been my business for like 10 years now haha

Anyway... used to use nuxx on car forms since I was 19. Not sure why I stopped using it. But just decided to go back to that.

Thought Offshore might sound like I work offshore or something lol

nuxx came from the song "Born Slippy nuxx" by Underworld from a long time ago when I used to really be into electronic music. Really liked the word nuxx for some reason lol

  8. Looks like everything worked out, sorry for not coming to help with the plumbing. Its hard for me to find time on the weekends to sleep with deer season, kids, the yard etc. Hope your not mad. Did u remove the braces to install the sump?

Not at all totally understand, already did me a huge favor with the stand! smile.png

Yeah took out the 3 braces to put the sump in. Was a breeze to get it in there.

I put composite shims under all the braces and feet to level it out. Do you think that's good enough?

  9. Glad you got that bean animal setup figured out!

Looking good Offshore. I'm jealous of the 10' long tank!

Thanks man, was giving me a fit... just needed a few tweaks wink.png

It's quiet now and the syphon starts every time!

Let it run all yesterday and last night, looked pretty solid. I'm letting it sit off right now until this evening. Want to make sure it can sit for a day without power and not overflow. I have about an inch left in the sump on power off.

If everything goes well, will empty it and move back into place this weekend. Then start the fun stuff like putting down egg crate and making saltwater smile.png

  10. Finally got a chance to water test my system this weekend.

My buddy Tuan came up from San Antonio on Saturday to tweak a few things and we were off to the races.

Noticed two drip leaks in the plumbing, but some Weldon and PVC cement seems to have fixed those.

Going to run for a few days while it's pulled out to make sure that nothing is leaking before moving into place.

System is pretty quiet, just some hum from the return pumps and water noise from the tank into the overflow, but it's not bad at all. Loudest thing is the one Jebao WP60 I have running... but should get quiet when a slim coat builds up.

Also pretty impressed with the WP60. Will make a 2-3" wave across the full 10 feet when it was mounted half way down the right side pointing down the tank. Not sure if I'll need the other WP60, 4 WP40s and 2 Sicce 4000s now lol

  11. Kevin (http://www.austinreefclub.com/user/2333-kfennell/'>kfennell) was nice enough to come over with his wife yesterday and help me get my plumbing all done, well I was pretty much an assistant ;)

Hours later and after two trips to Lowes everything was done. Even 0 drips when fired up for the first time. I was really impressed with how thorough Kevin was. I'd really have had some issues trying to get the Bean Animal overflow setup.

Just ordered some Loc-line fittings, better 1/4" tubing and plastic clips for the return pumps. Should be here by the end of the week and I'll run the system full of fresh water for a few days to make sure we're good to go. Then just clean everything up nice and move back into place and start filling up with saltwater.

Then it's off to put my rock in, adding sand, doing the ATO and automatic water change system and should be ready to close all this and start a tank build thread :)

  12. Just bought one of these:

    50_gallon_vertical_tank.jpg

    http://www.norwesco.com/page.cfm?menu=34

50 gallon capacity and only 18". I can handle the 53" height. I only bought one to see if I can make it fit in the tighter spot... might need to cut a shelf ;)

Made of FDA approved plastic and new, so no chance of anything harmful being used prior.

Also just read about some pretty neat dual head pumps for automatic water changes that pump and pull the exact same amount of water for new saltwater and draining the old salt water.

  13. I've bought used Dr. Pepper syrup barrels on Craigslist. The guy has 15g, 30g, and 55g barrels, they're the blue plastic with dual threaded lids. I actually like making RO because even after a few years I still get the occasional scent of Dr. Pepper.

Do you have his contact info? So many on CL to wade through :/
