  1. Get rid of the Blue Tang and Emperor.

The Blue Tang is the devil... Ty is fish whispering our old YB Blue though ;)

Go for a slightly smaller full sized angel. The Bandit we picked up has become my favorite fish in the tank. Personality for days. Even in QT he always seemed to be looking at me like, where my clams at bro?

  2. That would drive me nuts...

Does Shane still plumb tanks like that, or has he moved to Bean Animal style overflows/drains?

Only time I ever got noise on either the frag tank or the display is:

    - When I get lazy and don't touch the frag tank for months.

    - When the display hits flush modes and I get a bit of a surge into the emergency pipe on the display.

I know Shane likes to keep his overflows small, but I wouldn't trade that for noise.

To save tank space, did an external box on the frag tank, the display is large enough that a small box at the top center didn't bother me.

  3. Born Slippy nuxx is awesome by the way. Underworld is fantastic music to program to.

LOL yeah... when I was younger it seemed to really help with coding, well those type of artists in general.

Now I do most of my work during the work day, so mostly the news in on and later in the day I'll put some music on.

  4. LOL changed mine here and on RC (just made a new account >:0)

Basically had used Offshore on watch forums back in the day. From Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore series of watches. Watches have been my business for like 10 years now haha

Anyway... used to use nuxx on car forms since I was 19. Not sure why I stopped using it. But just decided to go back to that.

Thought Offshore might sound like I work offshore or something lol

nuxx came from the song "Born Slippy nuxx" by Underworld from a long time ago when I used to really be into electronic music. Really liked the word nuxx for some reason lol

  5. Financing with free interest is good though. You get what you want and someone pays the interest. That's the extent of my financing. 0% on cars is awesome.

Never got 0% with cars... just 1.7% was the best sad.png

I did that on my last TV, 0 for 36 months. Paid it off in 4, but still it was a nice option smile.png

My sister financed her pool... I just can't imagine that. It was a lot of money, but at least I know it's done. My wife gives me crap about my student loans.. but hey they are at like 1%... so I don't worry about them too much. Maybe if I graduated it would be worth it lol

  6. Finance less = less interest payment = more money for other stuff

I finance stuff for one month on a credit card, and pay it off at the end of the month; avoiding any charges. Over 2 years I've put everything on that card and paid $5 in interest tongue.png (I use it for safety and for hotel points, get about a free nights stay every month.)

Not paying interest adds up quick, you just have to get into the saving and paying mode. I 100% agree! You are totally on the right track! I'm trying to kill our mortgage right now.... Then I can rest.

Switching from normal CC's to AMEX was the best thing ever. Have to pay it off every month. Keeps you honest, but you still get points :)

  7. Haha my wife handles our budget... we work together so it's more than fair.

Also she is pretty good with money. When we started dating I had CC debt and spent more on cars than anything else.

Fast forward 8 years and we have no debt, just the house and cars financed. Have had 3 houses since then and have always put down large down payments, giving us great equity. Also now I won't finance anything.

Sounds funny to have somebody strict on your budget but it works. We even were able to save up and pay to have our pool put in within a year while building up savings... and she still lets me get toys like cars, tanks, etc...

Now for me it's more a battle over size and space of the tank. Also if I buy something rare and expensive that dies I might get the "I told you so" :-/

  8. That's too bad, I'm really sorry to hear that... it looked great :(

I'm guessing that adding another Acan caused the issue. Was the Mimic bigger or smaller?

I plan on QTing an Achilles and Powder Blue at the same time in different tanks and putting them into the display tank at the same time. I'm doing that right now with a Yellow and Purple tang.

After that no more Acan tangs...

  9. Getting close. I keep changing little things on the build, but I think we've finally nailed it down and Prof has finished up.

Looking to install this weekend. Just got all my sand in as well, just pre-washed Aragonite.

My purple tang in the 20 gallon QT tank got a nasty case of HLLE. I think it's from the carbon in the new filters. Also it was pretty dark where that tank was.

I moved him to a 40 gallon I borrowed from Prof and put around 50 lbs of live rock that I've been curing in there with him. I've bumped up feedings and added more vitamins to his diet. Hopefully with more room, more flow, no carbon, better diet, sun light, etc... he'll recover. I know HLLE can take forever to heal though...

  10. I have a purple and yellow tang together, and have had several 3rd tangs over the years with them (Kole Tang, Clown Tang, Sailfin tang) without issue.

Awesome, I'm hoping with smaller juvenile tangs that I won't see an issue in a 240 with lots of hiding spaces. Still want to be safe and put the yellow and purple in at the same time. The yellow has always been my alpha fish, even when I had the trigger... also the purple seems pretty nuts in QT, flying around the tank when I come check on him :)

  11. Quick update:

Tank should be back from Prof this week. Have around 250 lbs of established live rock (few years old) curing and have about 130 gallons of RODI water made.

    Still need to:

    - Order 3 more LED fixtures

    - Order Sand

    - Make more water >:0

    - Make mounting for lights

    - Figure out piston for canopy

Once the system is full and up and running and see what kind of cycle (if any) happens. I'll then pick and choose which pieces of live rock I'll use in the 240, since I'll have around 320 lbs. I want some swimming room, so I'll turn the 55 into a holding tank for new fish and use left over rock in there.

Next I toss in the CUC from Reef Cleaners and fish/coral a few weeks later.

    Finally getting there :)
