  1. I recommend using kalk at first, unless you want to drop the $$$$ on a CO2 based reactor. It's a fairly simple and complete supplement and can be done very low-tech (i.e. cheap) by just mixing it with your top off water and then toping off the tank regularly. (I prefer to just run my top off water through a kalk-reactor.) That's all you need unless you have very heavy coral population. If you can't keep uo with kalk then you can add some 2 part. I ran the kalk reactor plus 2 part for a year or so and got crazy growth, but that much calcium means frequent pump cleaning! The most complete, low maintenance fix is the CO2 system, but that's not risk free: if you don't have a high quality system with a good monitor it can overdose the tank and kill it very quickly.

  2. Just my $.02 but once a tank starts leaking I would say it's time to turn it into a terrariuim. You can put a bead of silicon over it and stop the leak but there may be a structural issue as well. The problem with glass aquariums is the silicon bond - the silicon will fail eventually. How long depends on how well it was made and the conditions it was kept in but it will fail eventually. This time may be a leak, the next tme may be pane of glass coming loose in an established aquarium while you're at work. The tank is actually not a big percentage of the cost in a reef aquarium and it's not something that I believe is worth taking a risk on - the cost of failure is way too high. That's just my own take on it; I know that others feel differently and are likely more qualified on the subject. I'm glad it didn't cause too much damage for you though.

  3. Selling two outdoor digital timers. Each can be programmed with 7 days / 7 events each if you want to keep a different schedule on different days of the week. Each timer has two x 3 prong power outlets. Perfect for the less than ideal operating conditions under your tank. $5 each.

  4. Selling my Level-Loc auto top off. Extremely reliable controller with a float switch, back-up shut-off float switch, and a solenoid to control it (solenoid is turned off when there is no power). Just plug it into your water reservoir and set the water level in the sump and you're done! I set the solenoid on a timer so the controller only ran for about 30 minutes a day as an extra redundant safety feature. Extremely reliable - I never had a single problem with it in 18 months. I have only run RO water through it. Can add a 5 gallon jug with a valve and air line tubing if you need it as well. Asking $50.

  5. The only maintenance that I've done is cleaning it with diluted vinegar and water every 6 months or so. I've got the original box and everything that came in it. I'll have to check to see if there's a barb fitting for the intake in there.

  6. These are the best internal return pumps on the market IMHO. Reliable, quiet, efficient, and low maintenance. It pumps about 500 gph at 4' of head pressure. Great for a return pump or a skimmer that requires a little muscle. This pump is 18 months old and runs like a clock. Asking $90.

    Thanks for looking!

  7. Selling my custom made reef ready 20" acrylic cube. Total water volume is around 34 gallons. It is made out of 3/8" crystal clear cell cast acrylic. The overflow box is full length and includes a durso stand pipe. Also included is the custom reef wall background (made out of egg crate and foam) pictured in the photos. There is a bulkhead drilled in the top right corner for a return line. The aquarium is about 18 months old and has some very minor scratches from cleaning.

The stand is an Oceanic cube stand, which I drilled a hole in the top for the drain line and 2 x 3" holes on both sides for cooling fans.

Asking $150 for the aquarium and stand only.

    Thanks for looking!

  8. Selling my Sunlight Supply Reef Optix 3 Plus Reflector with matching 250w Sunlight Galaxy Electronic ballast. Both are about a year and half old and run great. This is a top of the line set; excellent reflectivity and very efficient (for a metal halide set anyway.) I am also including a Phoenix 14K bulb in the sale, but it is over 9 months old and needs to be replaced soon.

    Yours for $140.

    Thanks for Looking!

  9. 25 lbs of live rock for sale. Np aptasia, never been exposed to any medications, fully cured and still in a running tank. Nice shapes on these - I hand picked them out of about 150 pounds worth of rock to keep for a nano-tank. You'll get some blue legged hermit crabs and probably a peppermint shrimp or two along with the rock. Yours for $60.

  10. Oh yeah, I had a a fairy wrasse jump into the overflow box on the back of a 215 while I had the anti-suicidal-fish egg crate lifted for maintenance. Little ******* was almost impossible to get out because the over flow was in the middle of a high tank backed up against the wall. Ended up pulling the pipe and flushed him down into the sump :) Good thing he was skinny.

  11. Selling a very nice sized RBTA. This particular RBTA has done very well in captivity for 3 or 4 years now and has given me 4 or 5 healthy clones. The color variation has a bit of green tint around the base when it is spread out and in the right mood. There were some bubbles on the tips today, but that changes with its mood. It is attached to the same hunk of live rock as the fiji yellow leather but I've had good luck detaching anemones with ice cubes. Asking $80

Also FS, a large yellow Fiji leather - a good 5 or 6 inches across when it opens up. It is attached to a good sized chunk of live rock (about 8" x 3 " x 6") that I will include in the sale since I'm not sure how I could detach it without cutting it off. Asking $40

If you can take both of these I'll give them to you with the live rock for $100. I would like to make sure they both stay healthy and go to a good home and this would be the least stressful way to re-home them so I will give sales preference to someone who wants them both.

The live rock is in good shape, no aptasia, maybe an odd piece of bubble algae will pop up every now and then. There are some sponges growing on the underside of it as well. Never dosed with any medications.

    Regards,

    Jason

  12. The light set that you have should be good for a while if you're just starting up the tank IMHO. You should be able to grow softies / LPS / and SPS near the top of the tank. For a 24" deep tank the 250W MH are preferred but not necessary to have a nice aquarium, you just need to structure evrything according to its lighting needs in your tank. I'm not sure who told you that you need 3 x 250 MH for that tank but personally I think that 3 of them would be overkill. 2 x 250's (I like 14K myself) with good reflectors (I like the lumenarc 3s) plus maybe a few LEDs for moonlight would be more than adequate for anything in a tank that size IMPE.

  13. Sold. Thanks for the interest. In answer to your question, both halves are about 5" across. This one has been a pretty good splitter for me over the years, this is about the 4th clone or so that has spawned on its own.
