  1. Nevermind about the pic....he's in pieces. Best I could do was the link to the pic that I posted earlier. If "Hair is a bad indicator", then why are Emerald Mythrix Crabs considered "Reef Safe"? Lee, if you get a chance, I'd like to know if you can drop by sometime and tell me what you think the tank may need? I have a lot of algae blooming on the rocks and it doesn't seem to be what the Angel or Tang want to eat. I hate to over populate with tons of crabs or whatever.....
  2. Hey Lee, The hitchhiker is a Porcelain Anemone Crab (Neopetrolisthes ohshimai). For some reason he came in the Birdsnest Coral that I got and has not made an attempt to leave it, claiming it for his home. The "Hairy" Crab, I now believe is dead. He's upside down in the sand and has been at the same spot since yesterday. I'll post a pic in awhile.
  3. I'll move him to the QT tank just 2 B safe. I also got a free hitch hiker (Porcelein Crab) with my Pink Birdsnest via Drs Foster and Smith!
  4. Why do you think it "doesn't look like a friendly type of crab"?
  5. Today I found a dead? (may be molting) Red hairy crab (Pilumnus spinifer) • Bristly crab (Pilumnus hirtellus), not sure which it is? Resembling these pics..Red Hairy and Bristly Crab Info However, I can't seem to find out much more than that? Anyone know anything about them?
  6. buy a cheap used aquarium that will fit under your tank. Let me know the dimentions and I can help you with the dividers. Plate glass is waaayyy cheaper than Plexiglass or Lexan.
  7. Robb, Thanks for the info. Here is the link to the topic: Sea Salt Comparison
  8. I notice that "Tunze" seems to be the latest rage. I wondered what salt type you use and why? Tunze is made by HW and most salts; Kent, Oceanic, Reef Crystals, Tropic Marin, Seachem all pretty much contain the same stuff and all claim to be zero phosphates and zero nitrates. Just a thought? I'm not sure how to make this a poll or I would have.
  9. Bump....Hopefully we can get a few more replys. I understand that salt actually contains over 100 minerals composed of 80 chemical compounds. So, if water changes are done on a smaller but, more frequent basis, say 10% changes every 10 days to two weeks to resupply the nutrients in the water, I've listed some of the basics that we buy to add to our aquariums but 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt contains the following so, why even spend the money on: Iodine (150 micrograms), Magnesium (400 milligrams), Calcium (1000 milligrams), Trace Elements.... Sure seems a lot cheaper than chemicals??? Chemicals for the Modern Hobby Aquarius seem to be the equivalent of the Pharmaceutical Industry to doctors...more of a "treat the symptoms and not the cause"???? No offense to our doctors... Just my 2 cents...
  10. Nick, Thanks for everything. It was good meeting you. The Brittle Star is "Happier than a Woodpecker in a Lumber Yard", stretching his arms in the new 225!
  11. Sure, I'll sell you a leather Frag (eg: 1"x2" or so) for $10. I also have some that are twice as big if you wish to spend a few more bucks. I have the Button Polyps for $3/each. I have a few of these that have some 30+ heads on them. If that's too much, we can try and frag a smaller portion for you.
  12. pm'd Have you noticed any aggression toward anything in your tank? I'm just concerned that he'll eat my shrimp!
  13. so I should probably remove the sponge filters from my Eheim's to allow them to pass?
  14. That's interesting because one of the inlets into my sump I have a filter sock that is fairly large as far as pores go. When I went to clean it the other day there were 5 inside the bag????? I pulled them out individually and placed them in my tank. The fish went nuts hunting them down!
  15. Wondering if anyone has had success growing or whatever "Copepods"? There are some available on "Live Aquaria" that say you can add them directly to your aquarium or to your refugium. What is best? A bit of both? A bottle of these guys is $19.99. I have some type of little critters zipping around the rocks in Fuge that look like "Silverfish" if you will. I think that is what they are but, how do you "harvest" them to put into your tank to feed the fish? My brain, hurts...much!
  16. I have a lot of "Devil's Hand" Leather Corals and "Button Polyps" that I'd like to trade for any other frag that you may have. Most of mine are pretty good frags at about 2"-3" tall and about 1"-2" wide. Lots of polyps open on them, very healthy. I would like to get some "Acro" and "Fans" as well.
  17. Don't usually get to Austin as I own/run a restaurant 6 days a week.
  18. Yes, it's available. Let me know when you'd like it? Dave
  19. Reeftopia is one of the best deals going. You'd easily pay twice the price for the same amount from you LFS.
  20. Just thought of something else for ya. I used to work for the Four Seasons Hotel. Do Valet Parking....it's all cash tips and you get to check out some pretty serious rides!
  21. True, the POS does make you claim all of your CC tips but, it also makes you claim a minimum of 8% of your cash sales as tips as well. This covers us employers with the IRS proving we make the employees comply with the minimum standards. However, most waitstaff, at my place at least, make much more than the chefs that spent $50k to go to school to learn to cook in the first place! Also, your tip outs don't go to "the restaurant" they go to other employees such as bus boys, host and the like. I have my employees tip out 1% to each the dishwasher and the host, 2% total. Be glad you are not the employer, we have to pay 1/2 or all of your Medicare and SS taxes! I pay out over $2500 a month, right off the top of my profits for all of my employee's taxes. Plus Quarterly Fed. Income Tax, Unemployment Tax and Inventory Tax...all of these come right off of the top of my gross income. Now the **** democrats put a 1% "Gross Profit Tax" on anything over $300k gross a year! So, you shell out another $3k a year to the Feds for....um.....fun, I guess? This is no longer the land of "Free Enterprise" where the market dictates who makes it and who doesn't. It's now "Government Managed" and that's about as close to Socialism as you can get! You don't know what being robbed is until you own a business! Sorry....I'm off of my soapbox now.
  22. "Low-balling" with most companies can't happen as POS Systems automatically calculate cash and cash tips. A minimum amount is put in based on projected tips say at 15% of the cost of food. No company worth it's salt is going to put up with an employee stealing and certainly won't risk fines by the Feds for fixing the books. Besides, "Integrity"....it all you really have in life.
  23. Tipped jobs like being part of a Wait Staff are still taxable as the company is liable. Even though tips may be paid out every evening by most employers, the employers must declare that income so the Bast___d's in Washington can tax you on what you make as well as taxing us on what you make. www.Fairtax.org That's all I have to say about that!
  24. I would love a frag for my new 225 tank if you still have some available?
