  1. Tim, Thanks for the response! Doesn’t take long for a tank to crash when you are gone most of the time. Now I’m home again, I plan on going back to water changes every 10 days (10%). I cleared the rubble out of the sump and started with a clean slate. Still have all sand and about 200 lb rock in the 225 g. The tank itself was set up in 2008 (14 years now). New filter socks with larger porous media intercepting, first. These are now cleaned out daily. All pumps cleaned throughly. Salinity levels checked at 1.023. Other parameters to be checked and posted tomorrow as I wanted time for this water/ filtration change to settle a bit. You mentioned “hard coral” to be added? Any particular that you would recommend? Also, old lights are gone and Kessil A160WE’s are now installed. Still running original “Ehim 1262 (2/ea)” from sump. Internal circulation is Tunze 6105 Turbelle and a ReefWave 45 Gyre. New GFO and Carbon as of 7 May (yesterday). Pics: old to new.
  2. My reef tank has been devastated by Cyano. I have been traveling and husbandry has been on the back burner. I have been using a lot of live rock in my 55 gallon sump in addition to a couple hundred pounds that are in my 225 gallon. I’m wondering if the detritus is just building up in my refugium? Does anyone else run a ton of live rock in there sump? I’m thinking maybe if I get rid of all of this but it would be just easier to clean without an area for the detritus to build up? Thoughts? Pics?
  3. I have a stunning Picasso Trigger that I would like to move! Looking for Clams here.
  4. Do you have a pic of what they look like? Dave
  5. I think what I may do is buy a ton of clams...very small ones and raise them for people in the area at very reduced rates.
  6. Mussels.....good idea! Any thing that filter feeds is good for the water quality. I may just go to the market and get 2 lbs of live mussels!
  7. Too bad you can't get like a quart of live pods? Ah, just found this: Copapods Maybe a bunch of clams? Where can you get clams cheap? How about live Mysis?
  8. Don, who did you go through for your AGE pricing?
  9. I was thinking of adding something cool to my Sump in the Fuge section; It's about 50+ gallons. I was thinking this is a good spot for a really cool crab or Lobster or Mantis Shirmp (Although, I doubt it would be easy to view a mantis shrimp in there?). I only have top-down viewing in my sump. Renman's Blog Any Thoughts?
  10. Lots to determine here and that's a good question Chris. If I don't do a bowfront the tank on one wall would limit me to 30" in width. This brings the tank down to 785.4 gallons. Placing it as a peninsula, I could go as wide as 36" making it a 942.5 gallon. Ha ha....100 gallon water changes (10%)! Wonder what Kingfish is charging for this?
  11. This is all hypothetical at this point. We have been looking at moving and are interested in a new home. One plan that we like will require me to sell (not really, I just want something bigger!)my current 225 gallon with external overflow. The potential new home has a wall that I would like to incorporate a new tank with Sun-Tunnel Lighting, and an ATS. Supplemented by Actinic lighting. This new behemoth will be a "Bowfront" measuring 144"L x 30"W x 40"D x 42" Max Width (bow included). It calculates out to 948.5 gallons, 5478 sq inches of surface area, and "Main Content Tank Weight in pounds = 8121.3. I'm not sure yet what thickness of glass will need to be used and that will effect the interior volume. If this is cost ineffective, then there is another wall in the same room that will allow me to use a standard "rectangular" shape with a "peninsula" look. Of course it will be rockin waves and only using EXTERNAL pumps for water movement. No more powerheads! The other cool thing is, this room in the house will still allow me to drill into the garage and house everything (sump, ATS, pumps, chiller....)there just as I am now! Just preliminary for now....watch this space...! Dave
  12. TTT Anyone? $300 for 3 MH Ballasts & Bulbs at 400w and wiring harnesses!
  13. Very nice...Are you interested in trade for anything? We'll work out the meeting details.
  14. You'll note that the other box comes with a magnet as well. You could just as easily buy the Tunze magnet at $55 and still save over $400! I've never compared the Tunze with any other wavemaker so, I can't speak to that. But, you could buy 4 of the other wavemakers for the $550 that it will cost you for the Tunze. Does anyone have any comparisons to the Tunze that they could personally share? I'll sell you mine with the magnets at half price if you like? That's how I feel about it.
  15. Yea Robb, I'm good for startin' stuff. I could have done a lot more with the money I would have saved from buying a Tunze Wavebox and a Tunze Stream for the opposite end of my tank. I also didn't need a $1200 Protein Skimmer! So much can be done for the huge prices some of these manufactures charge for their half-wit products. It's a plastic case and a pump with a timer. LED lighting costs is my next bone of contention. Build it yourself. Sorry for my rant and hijack of this topic.!!
  16. I would buy that no matter. Waayyyyy cheaper than a Tunze. I'm not so impressed with Tunze...not a lot of bang for the buck.
  17. I know it was 2:51 when you posted this but, we need a bit more to go on?...
  18. I have a pair in my tank right now but wonder if you can put two pair in a tank or is that just asking for trouble?
  19. Thanks for the ideas Mike. These are "Mogel" as the initial ad reads. All three MH Ballasts are rated at 400w. The Icecap is Electronic Ballast. The 2 Blue Waves are "Pulse Start". Two of the MH bulbs are 14k German Hamilton at 400w ea. One bulb is 20k Ushio at 400w. Dave
  20. I am selling my MH setup (minus reflectors). I have 2- Blue Wave 1 400W Metal Halide Ballast by Sunlight Supply (Retail: ~$150.00/ea), and 1- 400w Icecap Electronic Metal Halide Ballast (Retail: ~$180.00). Total Retail price: ~$480.00 They are currently hard wired to the sockets on my tank since my sump is in the garage and the tank is in the house. I will sell these for $300 and I will include the sockets for the mogel type bulbs as well as 3 MH bulbs (~8 months old). Two are 14k/400w and one is 20k/400w. $300 takes it all. Regards, Dave
  21. The Red Algae the grows on my ATS you can use to suppliment your fish's diet.
  22. I have a bunch....I get a lot off of my ATS.
  23. You are your own raw material; know what you consist of and what you want to make of it.

  24. I have a lot of GSP that I'd like to thin out. Anyone wanting any it's free. If there is something that stirs your heart to trade, cool but, not necessary.
