Btw this guy is hosting a RBTA, can send more pics or video as well...

IMO if you have the resources to QT it's never a bad idea and won't hurt anything. I think most people don't have the resources so that's why they don't. I'm like the others with corals dip em and into the dt. Fish I QT all of em for at least six weeks...

There are a lot of online vendors that carry ATI bulbs. Check some of the board sponsors, premium aquatics carries ATI bulbs, and so does get pumped. With a 4 bulb depending on how blue you want it to look, there are a few bulb combos you could run.

Wow the pink ones are amazing! Yes I beleive that that is definitely not a common color. Haven't been in the hobby that long but I have never seen pink acans before, thanks for sharing and awesome corals!!!

A cheap T5 fixture would be a great choice with getting started with corals. A 4 bulb fixture like the one you posted or the one Grog posted would def be a great choice. The advantage IMO to the one Grog posted is it has the built in timer so, no extra $$$ spent on timers... Here's another Odyssea from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/T5-Quad-24-Timer-Aquarium-Light-FOWLR-Coral-Reef-Cichlid-96W-LED-/290917683528?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43bc0b9148
I think this may be the same one Robb used in his office build???
ATI bulbs are def the way to go when you get a chance to replace your bulbs, they provide great color and PAR.
The other option if you aren't in a huge hurry is to watch the for sale boards for something used to come up, a lot of folks have been ditching the T5's and MH's to switch to LED's so there can be some deals to be had out there.

The plan right now is to get some 3/4" electrical condiut paint it black and hang the pendants form there. A suspended canopy would be cool, maybe that is something to look into down the road. I think that the electrical conduit would be strong enough to hold it....

Free splash in the hot tub for first 10 people who buy frags!
I was amazed at the 215 when I went to go pick it up from a Craigslist ad. Popped up there with money in hand and a Uhaul truck without ever seeing it. What a great surprise! Dumb luck still feels great when its happening to you... even though you don't deserve it! Haha.
MH for sure... would love to get some T5s on it as well to customize the color a bit but MH will be main lighting. I may even kick it up and go 400 watt as my ballasts are all adjustable from 250-400. Gotta love those cheap plusrite bulbs! Thanks for the compliment RobR.
A couple of the new WP40's from the group buy and some heaters and your in business... Just need a whirlpool setting....

I got bored and decided to build me a mixing station
I have 2 unions just in case I want to remove the pump to do something and another ball valve so when ever I decide to do a water change I just hook up the hose and run the water straight to the tank. I am using a mag 9 for the mixing. Build something inside the barrel to move water everywhere and not let anything settle at the bottom. Still need to clean the inside but it's pretty much ready to use.
Looks good, that will make water changes really easy

Definitely try the brs reactor if yo are really gonna switch. They are made really well and I agree with Ty give their GFO a try it is very affordable and does work great. Plus I think that RCA has started to carry it in the store so you can get it locally.

Love the tank, it looks great. Can't wait to see the new one come together. That 215 is a great looking tank! I take it that you are planning to run mh on the new tank as well? Seeing your sps has just validated my choice to go with mh on my new tank! The color on your corals is absolutely amazing can't wait to see them grown out as some huge colonies!!

Tank is looking great man. Love the fts, and I agree the blue background looks awesome.

I had a giant smile on my face when I saw you were setting up the tank with MH. I like LEDs too, just not 100% sold yet either... but I am getting closer and closer as they continue to nail down the perfect spectrum. Call me 85% sold.
I don't run a chiller on my system with 3 MH's in an enclosed hood with only the back open. Average temperature is 82 and everything is happy in my tank. I do have the Apex turn on two clip-on walmart fans to cool while the lights are on.
Definitely like the look of the new system. Looking forward to the build.
Really glad to see that there are still some MH fans out there. It seems like more and more are making the switch to LED. For me I just haven't seen (in person or online pics) any SPS tanks where the corals are as colorful under LED as MH. What bulbs do you run on your tank? Also what reflectors do you run?
Mine runs for a couple of minutes here and there when my halides are fired up (I run them for 6 hours). I'm using 3 250W bulbs, with two bulbs I don't know if I'd need the chiller or fans to keep at 80. That is why I was asking.
I need to play with fans and monitor it. I want to ditch the chiller. Its loud and I want to re-purpose it for a frag tank in the garage. Noise won't be an issue out there.
Either way, I'm sticking with halides for a while too.
Grog what bulbs and reflectors do you run?
I too will never give up my halides, from what I can tell LEDs seem to grow algae easy. JMO, I have 200Ws of them and im starting to think I may go back to T5HO bulbs. I run a chiller.
Jeremy your tank is awesome, but I didn't know you were still running halides. For some reason I thought you had switched to all LED. Either way it is good to know there are some MH experts out there!
Sweet tank! Nice and deep can't wait to see it come along
Thanks, will try and keep this as up to date as possible as new stuff comes in!

Cool I did not know that planet made stands... Is yours metal frame or all wood? I read somewhere that the dsa tanks were losing quality over the past few years since the master builders from oceanic left dsa to start planet aquariums.

Great update Rob. You'll be glad you have a PA tank. I really like mine. It is built like a tank. You could probably get 2-3 yellow tangs like me and call it a day on the tangs. Get them small and grow them. Your "my" melanurus wrasse is still eating like a pig. I added some sand and he is in love now.
Glad to hear that the melanurus is still eating like a pig, the last time I saw him he was huge... They are awesome fish. Didn't know you had a planet tank... They are absolutely built like tanks! Yeah maybe a couple of yellows... I really want a purple but I guess we'll see still got some time to decide.
Very nice. I like the dimensions.
I went with hard plumbing myself, used CPVC because I liked the spigot style valves that were available instead of the ball valves. I didn't want to be torquing the plumbing so much to open and shut valves. I used to hate plumbing but now, after this project, I feel much more comfortable with it. One suggestion that was made to me, that I incorporated is a valve on the return a Y. I use that when I do water changes makes it easy, open a valve and it goes in a bucket. It makes me more prone to actually do water changes. Second advice I got was to use unions for connecting devices. Makes it easy to remove for service.
You seem up in the air on return pump(s). I went with dual Eheim 1262. They move a lot of water and are super quiet. I've always been happy with all of the Eheim products I've owned and these are no exception.
Are you planning on a chiller with the halides? May not be necessary with two halides but I'm curious.
-Grog
Cool thanks for the advice, I def wanna do something like you said for water changes... I like the idea of running two return pumps as well. This will be my first time plumbing a tank, so.... Thanks for the advice
As for a chiller no I hadn't planned on it. Right now I am planning open top and with the lights 12" form the surface I am hoping I won't need one. A lot is going to depend on the reflectors too, I think.... I've read the lumen brights can be hung a little higher which helps dissipate the heat a little better. But mh stuff is becoming hard to find. I know LEDs are the future, just not 100% sold on all LEDs yet...

The pump is definitely the problem. I turned it off and the temp dropped a degree in 15 minutes.
Was it all gummed up or was it something else? From what I know there aren't a whole lot of moving parts to the mag pumps and they are pretty much built like tanks and will last a long time with some maintenance of the impeller parts. Hope you got your issue fixed and the tank back up and running.

Great looking tank, and welcome back to the hobby. Look forward to seeing your tank come together. What are your plans as far as corals?
-
Nice tank I love my rimless 120 from planet it's same dimension as yours but only 25" high. Who did you order your tank through?
Thanks! Their tanks are absoluelty awesome. Been watching your build, and I love your external overflow... Was teetering between a DSA and the planet but after seeing your tank and a couple of their other tanks at the LFS, Planet was a done deal! Almost went with an external as well but didn't want the extra little bit sticking out the back as I am limited on space aleady. I got the tnak and stand through aquatek during their annual sale...

Loving your tank, it is coming along very nicely!!! Can't wait to see this bad boy when those frags are grown out!!!! The planet tanks are absolutley awesome, they are really solid. Is your stand made by coastal?
