  1. when does the "I need to get a bigger tank" thought go away.....im getting tired of upgrading...

I can honestly say I want to downgrade so it definitely can go away, but the desire to change doesn't...

  2. I hope the craigslist UI design is just an april fools joke. The site is ruined.

They removed all categories. Basically looked like the original google, with a search box, and a few links to community, for sale, etc. Completely ruined the ability to browse at all.

  3. Has anyone tried 1/8" (.125) ID RO tubing instead of normal .17"? I had some normal tubing rupture on me under normal pressure and need to prevent it from happening again.

Running the normal BRS .17 ID LLDPE tubing. I'm running through walls in a few places so while this leak was in my garage and wasn't a problem, a leak inside a wall would be extremely bad. Found the thicker .125"ID on a plastic website.

Watch your acros if you have them in the tank. Mine loved to eat the bases of digis especially.

It was between the faucet connection and the RO unit. Had been operating in the same place for about 24 months as well, so definitely not an issue of the line getting damaged.

  6. What does everyone do with the plastic netting they wrap Christmas trees in? This stuff is like soda can rings on crack...

    1. jestep

      jestep

Yeah, we were working on cutting it up, but it's a crazy amount of work. Probably at least a whole hour, if not 2, to get through a 9ft net. We still have one from last year as well with even smaller netting.

  7. I have a 55 gal that cannot be drilled. So, I need a hang on back skimmer.... Any suggestions?

^+1. Great skimmers and can usually find used ones for a good discount off the retail. The BH90 is really good as well.

  8. Wife said she wanted a larger tank (180 or 240) - the reefer side of me says: YES! The CPA side of me says: wait, how much does that cost!?

Wishful thinking and future projection are the same thing right?

We need more 500 gallon tank owners in ARC. Let the reefer side run with it...

  10. Is anyone or does anyone know a mechanic that can do a shock replacement with parts that I already have? My shop originally told me they'd do it with my parts then changed their mind after the truck was dropped off.

..fuel and oil treatments and rebuilding almost new brake calipers.

If I can just get a shop to swap the springs for me that's probably enough.

It's just a 4wd xterra. I have no problem DIY but I'm not messing with swapping the coil springs. Had a bad experience with a portable compressor a few years back, never again. Shop was unwilling to compromise on doing it, wasn't an issue of money.

I'll check out the other places as well, there's a Lambs near my house. I've been way turned off on them since I called them out trying to rip my mom off with about $500 in completely unnecessary work like...

Yeah, none will allow me to use my own parts anymore. Tried about 5 of them.

No idea if you need to do anything. Would think it would be great coral food though...

Willful ignorance is the best policy when swimming in Texas waters...

  15. Do any LFS's sell CO2 resistant PE or PP tubing?

    1. jestep

So I tried using some and it's almost impossible to get on a hose barb. Is there some trick to it like boiling water?

I didn't even think of that. I have a ton of it in the garage.

Yeah, or CO2 planted. The silicon and vinyl stuff tends to get brittle on me.

  19. Anyone know where I can get plastic egg crate locally?

I'm pretty used to that look at Lowes. I asked where the floor and table fans were last summer and the person I was talking to had no idea what those were...

  21. Any other ARC'ers still playing paintball these days?

    1. jestep

      jestep

Really depends. I'm way southwest so the dripping springs fields occationally, outlaw and extreme sometimes. I like Texas but their paint prices are borderline absurd. $95 per case for premium is pushing reality.

I'm totally down one of these weekends. Just got an awesome new custom pump I want to try out. Still have my electronic markers as well.

  23. I'm thinking discus for 2015. On this eve of what looks like another crash, wishing everyone a very Happy New Year :)

    1. jestep

      jestep

I wouldn't in any way switch to discus thinking it will be easier or cheaper than a reef tank. When I was doing discus, it was easily 5 times more work than a somewhat automated reef.

If you start with juveniles, you need to do 50 - 100% daily water changes to prevent stunting. Otherwise, adults cost $100+ per fish and still require very good quality water, 50 - 100% per week water changes minimum.
