  1. Addictive? You ain't seen nothin' yet! welcome to the club. Which wall are you going to cut a hole in for your 300 Gallon mixed reef? You will need to decide before next year.
  2. Install the ATO where ever you are losing water. It will not be in the tank. I use the return area. I have built several ATO. I have never done one from a RO unit, but from what I understand a holding tank for good RO is a must. There are a couple of good ATO units out there. Look at the TopDose units on ebay. The are modestly priced and have a cool form factor, but the JBJ and TUNZE ones are cool too.
  3. Have you found anyone yet? I live in south austin, but work up north.(I know fantastic life planning) I could swing by on my lunch break if no one else can help you.
  4. The crew says "Happy Holidays"
  5. Thank you I did not realize belkin made UPS. I know that sometimes they have killer clearance sales. If I see one or another good deal on ups I will post and let everyone know. I wish I could use the battery operated pump, but it is in a seahorse tank and small bubbles are an absolute NO! They think the bubbles are food, eat them, the gas gets trapped, and well.... I'd just like to avoid that.
  6. Thanks I think I will wait. I just had to ask.
  7. Yes, but they charge $15 a shrimp. I think that's pretty high even for the center yet tiny species of a tank.
  8. I am looking to buy some sexy shrimp. I eventually would like 10-15, but every little one will help. thank you
  9. We are entering the season of bad weather and power outages. In fact we have already had one outage at our house. Luckily it only lasted for about an hour. My question is: what is everyone using for back-up power for your tanks? I have looked at many different UPS units, but it is hard it figure out which one will work best. How many watts of back-up power do we need? Our biggest tank needs to run a Mag5 for circulation. I would like for it to be able to run for several hours. The other tanks have much smaller pumps and would require smaller units. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  10. I think rubbermaid makes plastic pond shells that are pretty cheap, but then after you are done your stuck with a pond. Koi?
  11. Unfortunately we will be at a Christmas party. DARN YOU SANTA!!!!
  12. Our tanks already take all of our money and now they want the booze too! Completely unacceptable!
  13. Super awesome. I really like the articles on the home page.
  14. The Harlequin Shrimp are licking their tiny little lips!
  15. I am glad to hear you went for it. You should post pictures when you are finished. I mounted the moonlights directly to the top of our canopy. It worked great. I see no reason to hang them unless you really want to. Our unshielded PC lights collect salt like crazy and the reflectors have tiny rust spots. If you are covering the HQI then you might as well cover the PC. IMO.
  16. Darn it! Jennifer and I were just talking about doing the same thing. If we didn't have silly day jobs to support this hobby, then we would definitely go. I think the catching and releasing would be just as fun as bringing the stuff back. Although, if I caught a frogfish he would make the trip home. happy2.gif Maybe we can plan an ARC trip after the first of the year. Maybe we could even hit up some local aquariums.
  17. Sounds fantastic. Sign language was my second language in college. I guess I will need to look up how to say "seahorse." Good luck with the move and congrats on the little girl. TSD is a fantastic school and the deaf community in Austin is super nice.
  18. We have two nanos and they are awesome. I highly recommend www.nano-reef.com. That site has tons of information on nano tanks. If you plan on having high light corals check out www.nanotuners.com. They can stuff tons of light into tiny little boxes. Personally I think the NanoCube stand is expensive, especially the twisty one. The tanks do run hot, but there are several passive chiller options and everyone seems to change the pumps for more flow(personal choice). One of our nanos(12G nanocube) we run completely stock. It supports a clam, leathers grow like crazy, and oh yeah the seahorses love it. The other tank is an aquapod that I have modded. I added 20 extra watts of light(for a total of 74watts for 12 gallons), a MJ900, custom hood, cooling fans, and soon to be refugium. It is also doing very well. They are fun, super clean, and who doesn't love a bow front. Jennifer says you can rearrange them very easily.
  19. Do it! There's nothin' you can't get into with a power drill, sawsall, and hammer. I think in canopy is a better look then a fixture. Plus women love a man with DIY skills!
  20. You should try a Finnex tank http://www.finnex.net/pages/product/MTank.html or an Oceani cube
  21. Just bought a new tank. DARN. If you part out I would like the frogspawn, xenia, and maybe some zoos. Good luck. We are preparing for a move, but we are taking the tanks with us. It is sad to see a good reef tank broken down. crybaby2.gif
  22. Freakin sweet. You should post a video of these guys eating. blob7.gif
